'Hopefully she'll be back tomorrow. That's very, very sad news.'
Tom continued presenting the show on his own until 9am.
It comes after a Melbourne radio star surprised fans by announcing his shock departure.
Jack Post, 37, who has made a name for himself on The Christian O'Connell Show on Gold FM, quit the program on in May in an emotional Instagram post.
Jack shared a slew of snaps from his time on the show, including one of him playing a guitar in the studio with Christian O'Connell and another with his wife Bianca and son Gordon.
Telling fans that it was one of the 'hardest decisions' he had ever had to make, the radio host revealed the reason why he was calling his time on the popular breakfast program.
'I love this show deeply, and it has given me so much. But there is something in my gut telling me it's time to close this chapter and write the next one,' he wrote in the caption.
'When I left radio with Hamish & Andy in 2017, I honestly didn't know what was next for me then — but I had an excitement and giddiness for the thrill of what it could be.
He added: 'I'm so happy it turned out to be The Christian O'Connell Show.
'It's time to step away again, make space, and see what's next,' he shared.
Jack said that he was grateful for the listeners who tuned in for the morning show over the years.
'Thank you to each and every listener who chooses this as their breakfast show.
'I love talking to you in the mornings, I love meeting you on the street — don't stop saying hello,' he wrote.
The radio star then went on to thank his colleagues at the station, particularly Christian, who he said had been on of the 'most profound relationships of my life'.

Father-son duo are first to ever win BBC gameshow's full jackpot
A father and son team have become the first contestants to win the full £10,000 jackpot on the game show The Hit List. More than 250 pairs of contestants have attempted to win the top prize on the BBC One show. But ahead of series eight launching on Saturday night, someone has finally done it. The Hit List sees contestants hear excerpts of music and they have to name the song and the artist who sang it. In the show's endgame, the prize money starts to drop after five seconds of music so the longer contestants take to answer, the less money they make. Contestants are also allowed to skip to a new song. Both Paul, 61, and Tom, 26, from Liverpool, managed to get every one of the endgame's 10 songs right within five seconds, meaning they were able to scoop the full prize on offer. Tom, an events and marketing coordinator, said: 'We've been watching The Hit List for years, this was our third time applying to be on the show, and it was third time lucky. 'We always knew that we'd go on together, as you need knowledge of music spanning all decades. 'The two teams we were competing with were incredible, I couldn't believe when we go through to the final round, the adrenaline was immense and obviously over the moon with the result.' The show, which began in 2019, is hosted by husband and wife presenting duo, Rochelle Humes and Marvin Humes. Marvin said: 'I was starting to believe that it couldn't be done, but they came and proved us wrong, after seven years I've seen so many attempts. 'Tom and Paul were so in sync from the start I knew we were on to something special.' This comes after Rochelle and Marvin opened up about working together on The Hit List, explaining how they're able to avoid any 'domestics' and quarrels while filming the game show together. More Trending While speaking to Metro, the superstar couple explained what it's been like to work together on the show. Former star of The Saturdays Rochelle said that while it 'could have ended up as a nightmare', they have a lot of fun working together, adding that it's 'the show we'd be watching if we weren't hosting it' as it's 'real family entertainment'. Marvin, who soared to fame as a member of JLS, outlined the advantage of 'working with the love of your life', as it means that he can be far more direct with his co-presenter. Events and marketing coordinator Tom, 26, and catering business owner Paul 61, share a love of music. They credited their success to complementary music taste -Paul's love of 60s,70s,80s and Tom's knowledge of 90's and 00's. Meanwhile, the final song that secured them the money was the final song that won them the money was Queen, A Kind of Magic. Reacting to the incredible achievement, Tom said: "We've been watching The Hit List for years, this was our third time applying to be on the show, and it was third time lucky. Hardest Quiz Show Questions Would you know the answers to some of quizzing TV's hardest questions Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the "worst" question in the show's history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: 'From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?' The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000. - Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the "worst" question in the show's history. The 1% Club - Viewers of Lee Mack's popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: "Edna's birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen's birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir's birthday must be the 'X' of January." It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir's birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence. - Viewers of Lee Mack's popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. One of the questions asked the player: "Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?" The options were - sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots - with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes. "I would have been happy with £1,000 and a day out with my son. "We weren't aware that no-one had won the jackpot before and as we got to song seven in the final round the tension in the studio was palpable. "I was very proud of Tom for getting the song names in about three seconds." The Hit List airs on BBC One and iPlayer.

Johnny Carson's friend shares intimate details about the King of Late Night's final days
The best friend of late night TV host Johnny Carson has revealed the icon was uncharacteristically affectionate towards the end of his life and believes he knew his time was up the last time he saw him. Tech mogul, Howard Smith, spent many dinners sitting across from The Tonight Show host, but the last one was different than all the rest. Carson, who died in January 2005 at the age of 79, had invited Smith and his wife out after catching his friend at a pharmacy in Malibu. He picked the pair up and drove them to a dinner, where they'd spend hours laughing. 'John was the funniest I've ever seen him,' Smith told Fox News. 'He went on and on, told stories about different people that he had on the show… We just laughed so hard.' Previous dinners, they would only spend a few hours together before parting ways, but just days before his death, Carson insisted on keeping everyone out late. 'We were the first people [at the restaurant] and the last to leave,' Smith explained. 'Looking back, there must have been something going on in his head that night. 'At the end of the night, he drives us up to our house, gets out of the car. He gave both my wife Jane and me a kiss and a hug. Then he tells us: "I love you." John was not standoffish, but I'd never seen him do anything like that. 'I think he knew he was dying, but didn't want us to worry.' Carson then took off back home and 16 days later, he passed away. 'When I think about that night, I feel he wanted to tell us that he would be okay, and that he loved us. That's the John I knew,' he told the outlet. Smith also recalled watching his friend deteriorate. The two often played tennis together, but eventually, it switched to coffee at John's after the comedian admitted the physical activity became too much. 'On Saturdays and Sundays, you come over to my house. I'll make you a coffee, and we'll just sit around, talk about life,' he recalled Carson saying. The pair had played tennis multiple times a week and it created a lifelong bond, even if Smith didn't know it at the time. 'I'm still grateful for that day when we first decided to play tennis together,' he told Fox News. Now, Smith has written a book called My Friend Johnny: The Last 20 Years of a Beautiful Life with Johnny Carson and Friends. He wrote the book because he wanted people to see Carson as he had seen him behind the scenes. 'I wanted people to know John – the John I knew,' he said. Carson hosted The Tonight Show from 1962 to 1992, which garnered him the nickname King of Late Night. The show won six Emmys. The heavy smoker died of emphysema, a lung condition that causes shortness of breath, in 1999.
