As the cost of living crisis bites and petrol prices soar with inflation, you might want to look for a reliable and affordable ride.

Toyota RAV4 is renowned for its reliability

Drivers often overlook these three models as they search amongst hundreds of petrol, diesel and electric cars under £10,000.
But leading mechanic Scotty Kilmer has shared that these three vehicles are known for their reliability and reasonable price.
Toyota RAV4
If you're looking for a hassle-free car and stability, then the motor expert recommends Toyota RAV4.
According to Scotty, RAV4 can run for hundreds of thousands miles without ever breaking.
He told Express: " I've never seen one of these break yet. As long as you don't drive through six feet of water and flood the whole car out, it's a really good system.
"It's been out a while, this one is a 2015, and I've never seen one break."
Data from Warranty Solutions Group has backed up Scotty's claims as it put RAV4 at the top of their reliability list.
The study showed that only 9.68% of RAV4 owners had made car insurance claims.
You can snap up this model for around £9,000, making it a budget friendly option.

However, one popular hair accessory could put your life at risk if you decide to keep it in while on the road. As convenient as claw clips can be, they could cause serious injuries if you happen to be involved in a car crash. The Highway Code reminds drivers not to let fashion override safe choices The danger of claw clips is primarily due to the distractions they can cause and their sharpness. If a driver is adjusting or fixing their claw clip while driving, they are, without thinking, diverting their attention from the road. In a car crash, loose hair clips can cause injury by becoming a projectile or pressing against the back of the driver's head. The Mirror has reported on several incidents involving these hair accessories. Jeena Panesar put her hair up in a claw clip before heading out to her car on January 24, 2023. But, she was left fearing she would die after it sliced through her scalp and became lodged in her head during a crash. She was driving home from work in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, when her vehicle hit a tree and the car skidded for 50 metres before flipping over. The crash threw Jeena against the roof and crushing the clip into her head. Several incidents involving these hair accessories have been reported When deciding what to wear while driving, safety should be a priority before style. One of the most dangerous items someone can wear during the summer is flip-flops or 'Birkenstock' style sandals. While they are comfortable in the pool and on the beach, studies have shown that motorists who drive wearing flip-flops have less control over their pedals. Similarly, heavy boots like Dr Martens can be dangerous to drive in due to their heavy and rigid design. Mike said: 'This can affect a driver's ability to change pedals, which is crucial while driving quickly. To make sure you maintain control, it's best to wear comfortable, secure shoes like trainers while driving, as these are the safest shoes to wear while on the road. If you don't typically wear these shoes, make sure to keep a spare pair in the boot, as something you can quickly change into.' Restricting your feet can mean you have issues using the pedals of your car in an emergency (Image: Gary Scott via Getty) Flowy dresses and maxi skirts are a great way to cool down during summer, allowing for breathability. However, long dresses can get caught under pedals, causing problems with the pedals or even overflowing onto the gearbox, making it harder to change gears safely. To avoid this, make sure your skirts and dresses aren't too loose while driving or keep them tucked securely under seatbelts. Throughout summer, sunglasses are a wardrobe staple for many, and you can always be guaranteed to spot someone rocking a pair of sunglasses in a convertible. However, before you get behind the wheel of a car, it's important to make sure that your shades aren't too dark to drive in. Mike said: "If your sunglasses make it difficult for you to see the road clearly, it may be best to just stick with keeping the sunshade down instead.'

GM signs rare earth magnet deal with Noveon Magnetics
Aug 6 (Reuters) - General Motors (GM.N), opens new tab has entered into a multi-year deal under which Noveon Magnetics will supply rare earth magnets for use in components of the automaker's full-size SUVs and trucks, the magnet maker said on Wednesday. China controls more than 90% of global rare earth processing capacity and imposed new export licensing rules in April, tightening supply to Western manufacturers of everything from cars and fighter jets to household appliances. Automakers, especially those focused on electric vehicles, are among the largest industrial consumers of rare earth materials. Ford executives too have said that a pinched supply of rare earth magnets from China disrupted production. Noveon said the magnet deliveries to GM began in July. It said it was the only operational manufacturer of sintered neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets in the United States. Sintered NdFeB magnets are currently the strongest and most advanced permanent magnets commercially available.

An internal document and emails, seen by Reuters, revealed that the office is facing sweeping changes. A source close to the situation said major restructuring is planned, although full details are still under wraps. The talks are set to wrap up by 20 October, with final announcements expected in November. Managers and union bosses have agreed to look at voluntary redundancies first, before moving to any forced layoffs. 'Conducted with care' In an email sent on 31 July, Nissan's regional vice chair Massimiliano Messina told employees: 'We are working diligently and respectfully with all parties to ensure that this process is conducted with care, transparency and in full compliance with legal requirements.' He added that no concrete decisions had yet been taken. The job cuts are part of a massive overhaul pushed forward by new CEO Ivan Espinosa, who took the helm in April. The plan includes axing around 15 percent of the global workforce, cutting production capacity by 30 per cent and trimming the number of manufacturing sites from 17 to 10. Nissan has been grappling with poor sales in key markets like China and the United States, which has added to the financial strain caused by years of aggressive global expansion. The firm currently employs around 19,000 people across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India and Oceania – with nearly 60% of those jobs based in Europe. The Sun has approached Nissan for comment.
