Jota and his brother Andre Silva were instantly killed when their Lamborghini skidded off a road in Spain before bursting into flames.
Tributes were paid to Jota and Silva from around the world.
And a tearful funeral was held in their native Portugal, with Jota's club Liverpool also retiring his No20 jersey.
Neto was unable to attend the service due to being in America with Chelsea.

He told Chelsea's official site: 'When I step onto the pitch on Sunday, know that I want to win this competition for Diogo Jota.
'He will always be with me. He will always be remembered. My thoughts are still with him, his brother Andre Silva, and their families. It's such a difficult moment.
Chelsea set for mouthwatering Club World Cup final against red-hot European champions
'Diogo immediately stood out to me when I came to England. I was very young and arriving in a new country, and he was one of the key players at Wolves. But he helped me and my family a lot, and I learned so much from him about life and football.
'Diogo was part of our group of Portuguese plates – there were quite a lot of us! Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Ruben Vinagre, Rui Patricio, myself and Diogo. We were so close and spent a lot of time together off the pitch.
'We are still in contact now and these guys, and the memories I have, will stay with me for the rest of my life. It's why it's so tough to now be without Diogo.
'He was a warrior, a guy who would always be ready to fight for you. Yet he had this big smile and his laugh… it is one of the things that I will always remember.
'When I heard the news, I spoke with the coach and everyone was very supportive. We had the game against Palmeiras and it didn't make sense for me not to play. With the personality Diogo had – something else that will always stay with me – I think he would've wanted us to play.
'I have this feeling that Diogo is still protecting everyone who was close to him. It's why I want to be a warrior for him. Sunday is no different.
'It will be my second final with Chelsea, and we can be crowned world champions. That is the focus. I want to win. I want to win it for Diogo.'

Hibernian boss David Gray hails match-winner Martin Boyle

The 32-year-old, who first joined the Hibees more than a decade ago, helped the Edinburgh club capitalise on a 34th-minute dismissal for Vukasin Durdevic as they pulled off one of their most notable European results in decades in the Serbian capital. Captain Boyle scored his 100th goal for the Hibees in the 40th minute before notching his second of the evening from the penalty spot midway through the second half as Gray's side seized full command of their Conference League third qualifying round tie at the half-way stage. 'Martin Boyle constantly delivers for this club,' the Hibs boss told BBC Scotland. 'That's 101 goals now, to do that shows how much of a threat he is and he demonstrated that again tonight. 'Not just that, I spoke a lot last season about him and the leadership skills, he needed that extra responsibility to take him on to the next level and he's delivering. 'I'm delighted for him on a personal note because he's been sitting on 99 goals for a while now, so he can start passing to other players now!' If Hibs can close out the tie in the return leg at Easter Road next Thursday, they will face a Conference League play-off against the loser of the Europa League qualifier between AEK Larnaca and Legia Warsaw, with the Cypriot side leading 4-1 after the first leg. Gray was thrilled with the result in the hostile Partizan Stadium but the manager is taking nothing for granted. 'To come here and win 2-0 was unbelievable,' he said. 'It was some effort. You ask the players to come over here and make sure the tie is still alive when you go home, and we've certainly done that. 'We've put ourselves in a fantastic position but I reminded the players it's only half-time in the tie. Based on our second-half performance, there's plenty to improve on.'

Zac Sapsford earns Dundee United creditable draw in Conference League

Zac Sapsford was the Dundee United European hero again as Jim Goodwin's side secured an impressive draw against Rapid Vienna in Austria. The Australian created a first-half equaliser for Max Watters and scored a well-taken late leveller of his own as a 2-2 draw kept United well in the hunt for a place in the UEFA Conference League play-offs. United survived some late scares – including a disallowed goal in stoppage-time – to keep the tie level against Rapid, who reached the quarter-finals of the same tournament last season. United travelled to Austria reeling from the news that Ryan Strain and Kristijan Trapanovski had joined captain Ross Graham in suffering hamstring injuries that will keep them out for several months. And there was a further blow for Goodwin in the opening stages when on-loan Ferencvaros midfielder Isaac Pappoe was carried off on a stretcher following lengthy treatment for what looked like a knee injury. United were struggling to keep hold of the ball but appeared to be keeping their hosts at bay until they conceded from a simple right-wing cross in the 27th minute. Vicko Sevelj could not track Petter Dahl's run from the left side of the box and the United central defence failed to react as the Rapid wide man stroked the ball home from six yards. United were level six minutes later. Sapsford showed directness, skill and strength to get to and along the by-line and then composure to cut the ball back into the path of Watters, who adjusted his feet to net his second goal for the club. United goalkeeper Yevhen Kucherenko made a decent diving save to hold an angled drive before Matthias Seidl dragged a shot wide under pressure following a Rapid corner. The home skipper was soon on target though a minute before the break after United were again caught out from a delivery from the right flank. United could not clear and the ball broke kindly for Seidl to net from close range. Sapsford had an effort saved early in the second half but Kucherenko was also busy before the Australian scored a brilliant equaliser in the 75th minute. Sapsford had scored the only goal in United's second qualifying-round home leg against UNA Strassen of Luxembourg and the 22-year-old summer signing from Western Sydney Wanderers further endeared himself to the United fans. United won the ball from the Rapid goalkeeper's kick out, Owen Stirton kept it moving forward and Ivan Dolcek lobbed it into the path of Sapsford. There was plenty to do but the striker held off a defender and hooked the ball inside the far post from 16 yards. United survived some sustained pressure with the help of Will Ferry's block and Craig Sibbald's penalty-box tackle before Louis Schaub saw his headed goal chalked off following an offside earlier in the move.
