Save £122 on Shark carpet cleaner that 'deep cleans better than professionals'

"Incredible bit of kit, it's transformed the carpet, lifting out dirt the professional grade vacuum couldn't get out."
Keeping your home tidy can feel like a thankless task at times. You've only just run the hoover round the place and it's already getting mucky again.
Every once in a while, it's good to give your home a proper deep clean, really rolling up your sleeves and getting into those areas you've been neglecting. For many people, paying someone to come in and do it for them just isn't an option.
There is, however, a product that can get your carpets looking brand new without having to repeatedly fork out for cleaners. And shoppers have been so impressed with it they say it is far better than turning to professionals.
The product in question is the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro Pet Carpet Cleaner. Shark is one of the big name brands in household cleaning, with the cordless vacuums among the most popular cleaning tools on the market.
However, with the big name often comes the big price point. In this instance, though, the Shark CarpetXpert is enjoying a discount of more than £120 on Amazon.
Normally retailing at a hefty £349.99, you can currently snap one up for £227.70 - a 35 per cent discount. This model comes with five tools to make sure every section of the carpet gets the deep clean it deserves.
Shark CarpetXpert HairPro Pet Carpet Cleaner
Product Description
According to Shark, the CarpetXpert has been built for pet homes; eliminating cat and dog mess and odours, including urine. Meanwhile, its anti-clogging and anti-tangle technology sends heir straight to the dirty water tank.
The carpet cleaner's dual-activated solution gives 20 times more stain-removing power vs Shark's Deep Clean Pet Formula and its high-pressure spray and powerful suction gives deeper cleaning than a regular vacuum.
Elsewhere, the Bissell ProHeat 2x Revolution Pet Pro Carpet Cleaner, which boasts a 4.8 rating, is £299.99. Or for those on a bit more of a budget, the Vax Compact Power Upright Carpet Cleaner is £90 at Argos.
However, the Shark CarpetXpert has attracted rave reviews on Amazon, where it boasts a 4.6-star rating and is a designated Amazon's Choice product. Shoppers hailed it for "transforming" their floors.
One satisfied customer said: "I am amazed by this machine. I recently had all carpets professionally deep cleaned but they didn't come up anywhere as good as the results obtained from this Shark.
"I wasn't expecting to see such great results from a domestic appliance! The amount of dirt removed is incredible. I don't allow outdoor shoes in carpeted areas so the dirt was in existence prior to professional clean. Very impressive!
Another five-star reviewer wrote: "Outstanding bit of kit. I had my carpet cleaned professionally, they screwed up, came back to try and fix the problem, they couldn't fix it so I bought this. And wow.
"Incredible bit of kit, it's transformed the carpet, lifting out dirt the professional grade vacuum couldn't get out. Incredible. I'm looking at other Shark products to replace our existing ones now, new vacuum cleaner, new hairdryer, new fans. This has completely outperformed our Vax in every way, don't look anywhere else!"
However, they did say that the Shark was "pretty heavy", noting that as one of it's downsides. And a three-star reviewer agreed, saying: "I found it powerful but too bulky and heavy."
They added: "Also, I accidentally went over the wire and the machine basically munched off the rubber coating and exposed the bare wires. I know technically my clumsiness but still I wouldn't expect the rubber to break so easily."
But someone else was left stunned at just how much muck the Shark lifted from their floors. They said: "I recently used the Shark CarpetXpert Deep Clean Carpet Cleaner with Built-In StainStriker Spot Cleaner, and it has truly transformed the way I clean my carpets.

Looking to beat the heat as temperatures continue to rise?
Then look no further than Dunelm's White Rechargeable USB Desk Fan that has an almost perfect five star rating for its small, yet mighty, design that means it works "even on the lowest setting."
Easy to connect via a USB cable that can be connected to laptops and computers, this desk fan is perfect for those who find themselves working from home on these sweaty, humid summer days.
However, it doesn't need to remain plugged-in, as the rechargeable element and compact six-inch design means it can be taken anywhere, even placed on a bedside table overnight on summer nights thanks to its "quiet" operation.
It's finished with four speed settings to choose from and an adjustable angle that can help direct the cool breeze where it is needed, unlike other models that can sometimes be stuck in one place.
As for Dunelm's own mini desk fan, it has received an impressive 4.8 rating from impressed shoppers who say that, despite its size, it is "surprisingly powerful" and "a literal life-saver" during this kind of weather.
One five-star review read: "Fantastic fan, surprisingly powerful, quiet, lasts for quite a long time when charged, very hard to find a decent small rechargeable fan but this is it, will be buying more!"
Beat the heat with Dunelm's White Rechargeable USB Desk Fan that costs just £25.

"The handheld cleaner has proven to be a versatile tool, effortlessly tackling corners, small areas, and even revitalising my dining room chairs and mattress.
"While the machine is a bit on the heavier side, it remains easy to manoeuvre. I simply followed a uniform pattern, moving it back and forth slowly, ensuring complete coverage. The more I went over the areas, the cleaner my carpets became."

Layoffs soar 140% as the unspoken job threat gathers steam

Layoffs have risen 140 percent from a year ago, a new report reveals. Companies have already announced more than 800,000 job cuts this year alone, the highest since the pandemic upended the economy in 2020. US-based employers cut 62,075 jobs in July compared to 25,885 in the same month last year. The damning figures represent a 29 percent leap from the month before where 47,999 people lost their livelihood, according to a report from career advice firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Some companies — such as Procter & Gamble — have been more elusive about the reasons behind mass cuts, blaming it on restructuring, 'automation and digitization.' However, Challenger, Gray & Christmas analysts found that the biggest impact on job losses this year was the relentless march of AI and the knock-on effects of Trump's tariff policies. 'AI was cited for over 10,000 cuts last month, and tariff concerns have impacted nearly 6,000 jobs this year,' report author and labor expert Andrew Challenger said. Most jobs have been cut in the tech industry, where 89,251 have been cut in the first seven months of the year. 'The industry is being reshaped by the advancement of artificial intelligence and ongoing uncertainty surrounding work visas, which have contributed to workforce reductions,' the report stated. Among the tech companies slashing the wage bill is Amazon where CEO Andy Jassy said he plans to reduce the company's corporate workforce as AI will make certain roles redundant. 'As we roll out more generative AI and agents, it should change the way our work is done,' he told employees in an internal memo. The company is betting big on AI recently revealing plans to splash $100 billion on data centers that the technology depends on. It has pumped further billions into startup Anthropic, the CEO of which recently warned AI could wipe out half of all entry-level white-collar jobs. An increasing number of Wall Street CEOs have also warned about how the rise of AI will take a sledgehammer to jobs. 'Artificial intelligence is going to replace literally half of all white-collar workers in the US,' Ford CEO Jim Farley said earlier this month. Silicon Valley titan Intel also announced it would be cutting 25,000 roles in 2025, its second major round of job cuts in two years. Amazon boss Andy Jassy warned that AI will lead to job cuts Ford Motor CEO Jim Farley predicted the rise of AI will replace 'half of all white-collar workers' Microsoft said in July it is cutting around 4 percent of its global workforce as it ramps up investments in artificial intelligence. The tech giant will slash around 9,000 jobs across different teams, geographies and levels of experience. The AI-driven job bloodbath marks a major shift for American workers. For years, mass layoffs were concentrated in US manufacturing plants. Now, they're impacting college-educated, high-to-middle-class earners. The demographic being pummeled the hardest appears to be recent male graduates. Men aged 22 to 27 with at least a bachelor's degree are now unemployed at higher rates than the general population.

US issues exemption for self-driving Zoox vehicles, closes probe

Aug 6 (Reuters) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Wednesday it has certified (AMZN.O), opens new tab self-driving unit Zoox vehicles for demonstration use and closed a probe into whether they had complied with federal requirements. The U.S. auto safety agency in 2022 began a probe into whether the self-driving vehicles lacking traditional driving controls had met federal safety requirements when the company self-certified the vehicle. Zoox in June applied for an exemption from some requirements and NHTSA granted it, saying all of purpose-built vehicles manufactured by Zoox now operating on public roads in the United States are doing so pursuant to an exemption issued by the agency. The Trump administration in June said it would move faster on self-driving exemption requests to deploy up to 2,500 self-driving vehicles after prior proposals from General Motors(GM.N), opens new tab and Ford(F.N), opens new tab to deploy vehicles without steering wheels and brake pedals lingered for years and were eventually withdrawn. NHTSA's approval includes the requirement Zoox remove all existing statements that the purpose-built vehicle complies with applicable federal motor vehicle standards. In May, Zoox agreed to recall 270 driverless vehicles after an unoccupied robotaxi was involved in an April 8 crash with a passenger car in Las Vegas. The Zoox Automated Driving Systems in certain driving scenarios "may make an inaccurate prediction when another vehicle slowly approaches perpendicularly and stops. In these scenarios, the Zoox vehicle may not be able to avoid a crash." Zoox paused operations for several days pending a safety review of the incident and developed a software update to address the issue. In April, the NHTSA closed a probe into 258 Zoox vehicles over a braking issue after Zoox issued a recall to update their software. It opened the probe in May 2024 following two rear-end collisions that injured motorcyclists after the automated vehicles braked unexpectedly.
