Situation of many schools in state is deplorable: Satheesan

Time of India19 hours ago
Kochi: Opposition leader VD Satheesan hit out at the govt on Saturday saying the situation of many schools across the state was deplorable.
The condition of Thevalakkara school is particularly poor, according to the child rights commission, he said at a news conference in Kochi.
Everyone is responsible for this condition, he said. "Govt needs to take the initiative to improve the poor state of schools. That's why opposition sent a letter to govt. An audit was initiated to check the safety of all schools in Paravur constituency. A questionnaire with 30 questions was prepared for this purpose," Satheesan said.
"The audit will cover the safety of buildings and boundary walls, trees, kitchen hygiene and measures to prevent food poisoning.
After receiving the audit report, various agencies, including govt, will be tasked with implementing necessary actions. Such tragic incidents should not happen again," he added.
"It is not correct for a minister to say that the child should not have climbed up, which was the cause of the accident. Govt must take steps to prevent such incidents in future," he said.
"Departments should not be blaming each other as everyone has the responsibility.

Govt's decision to resolve the strike at Kerala University is not being criticised. Opposition was the first to demand that the issues be resolved," Satheesan said.
"It is the children who are caught in the conflict between govt and governor. Instead of discussing and resolving minor issues, a situation has been created where no one can enter universities in Kerala," Satheesan alleged.
"If the protest was against the governor, why were universities shut down and staff and students beaten?" he asked.
Satheesan expressed confidence of UDF coming back to power with over 100 seats. He said Rs 742 crores collected by govt for the poor in Wayanad was not being used. "Despite receiving such a large amount, no houses were built for the poor in Wayanad, no rent was provided, no assistance for the treatment of those with serious illnesses and no help for children's education was given," he alleged.

Nitish's son urges people to ensure victory of NDA

Patna: CM Nitish Kumar 's son Nishant Kumar on Su nda y urged the people of Bihar to ensure victory of NDA in the forthcoming assembly polls to once again make his father the state's chief minister. While interacting with reporters at the Mahavir Mandir near Patna Junction, where he had gone to perform 'Rudrabhishek' on his birthday, Nishant also hoped that people would re-elect his father as the latter recently came with several pro-people schemes and also promised to provide jobs and employment opportunities to one crore youth over five years. "He has done so much for people in the recent past. He recently announced to provide govt jobs and employment opportunities to one crore youth in the next five years. Many people were recruited in various govt departments. The 35% quota for women has now been reserved for women hailing from Bihar. Also, power consumers in the state will be getting 125 units free," said Nishant while recounting the works of his father. Nishant does not play an active role in politics. However, in recent months, he has started appearing on public platforms, fuelling speculation about his entry into electoral politics. Asked whether Nishant will contest the assembly election himself, he avoided giving a direct answer and said, "Chaliye thik hai, isspar aage dekha jayega" (Alright, let's see about that later)." Jagan slams Midhun Reddy's arrest, says it's ‘political conspiracy'

Vijayawada: Former chief minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has strongly condemned the arrest of party MP PV Midhun Reddy, calling it "politically motivated and illegal". He described the arrest as a deliberate attempt by the TDP-led govt to silence public representatives who stand by the people. Midhun Reddy, a three-time Lok Sabha member, has allegedly been falsely implicated through forced confessions. "This is a targeted act of political vendetta by the TDP govt to cover up its own scams and failures. The alleged liquor scam is nothing but a manufactured narrative, created purely for media theatrics and to divert attention from real issues. The entire case is built on statements extracted under pressure, threats, third-degree torture, and also through bribes and inducements," said Jagan on social media platform-X. He said that the fact that Naidu himself is on bail with respect to a case on issues pertaining to liquor policy during 2014 - 19 itself, is an irrefutable evidence as to why he is stooping so low. The fact that he wants to nullify his case for acts during 2014-19 and also justify his policy now for 2024- 29, he is finding fault with the policy formulated by the YSRCP govt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "What is more alarming is that, while falsely accusing YSRCP leaders of a liquor scam, the current TDP-led coalition is reviving the very corrupt liquor practices that the YSRCP govt had dismantled. The belt shops and illegal liquor outlets named permit rooms have returned. While undoing YSRCP government's successful deeds of shutting down thousands of such belt shops and permit rooms and also reducing the liquor outlets significantly, the present govt is now encouraging permit rooms, belt shops, backdoor liquor sales beyond MRP and weakening regulatory enforcement," charged Jagan. He alleged that corruption and mafia have crept back into the process of awarding wine shop licenses, and thereby placement of orders to the distilleries, undoing the transparent govt shops system they put in place in 2019. He alleged that Naidu stalled investigations into those serious corruption cases against him and his close associates after coming into power. He said that YSRCP leaders are being arrested not because they are guilty, but because the party remains deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. "This is not a legal process. It is a political witch-hunt aimed at destabilizing a strong opposition," said Jagan.
