CM Dhami orders crackdown on illegally obtained IDs in Uttarakhand; over 9,000 ration cards cancelled
DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday sent clear instructions to all District Magistrates against all those who have obtained ration cards, Aadhaar cards, voter cards, Ayushman cards and other documents in the state in an illegal manner, and against individuals involved in making such cards, a release said.
Acting on directions, district magistrates have cancelled ineligible ration cards.
So far, a total of 961 ineligible cards have been cancelled in the Pauri district, and 5307 ration cards have been cancelled in the Bageshwar district. 3,332 cards have been cancelled in Dehradun.
CM Dhami further stated that the identification of ration card holders was necessary in order to identify people eligible for the benefits of the ration scheme.
On the instructions of the chief minister, the verification campaign of Ration Card, Aadhar Card, Voter Card and Ayushman Card is being conducted intensively at the district level by all the District Magistrates.
Earlier in the day, the CM held a virtual meeting with the DMs to discuss the progress of development works and preparations to deal with any eventuality, given the alert issued by the
India Meteorological Department
(IMD).
The IMD has issued an orange alert for three days in the districts of Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, Pauri Garhwal, and Udham Singh Nagar.
In view of the alert issued by the IMD, the Dehradun district administration announced the closure of all schools up to Class 12 and Anganwadi centres on August 4, 2025.
According to an alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the National Disaster Alert Portal, Dehradun district is likely to experience intense rainfall activity from the evening or night of August 3.
The forecast warns of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.

Guwahati: Preparation for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Assam is gathering momentum with the next round of training of booth-level officers (BLO) expected to take place within a week. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while attacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, said that in some places even the names of dead persons and married women were there in the voters' list and SIR would help weed out such voters. Assam is going to assembly polls early next year."In Assam's char areas (riverine) and some other places even dead people's names are there in the voters' list in large numbers. They do not delete it. Even married daughters' names are there. The voting percentage in these areas is around 100%," Sarma told media persons on Monday."Once SIR comes and the voters' list is linked with Aadhaar, this problem will be solved. Rahul Gandhi opposes SIR; what he wants is not clear. He can go to the Election Commission and seek rectification of the voters' list linking the voters' name with Aadhaar. He is not interested in this; he has picked up some names and is busy showing them. If the voters' list is wrong, how did Congress win Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana assembly polls? If your party wins it is alright. All these days, they were blaming EVM, now that EVM bullets are not firing, they have taken to SIR," he said.A BLO, who did not want to be named, told ET, "There was a directive from the deputy commissioner's office that the next round of training on preparation of SIR will take place within a week in some areas. We are expecting a written communication in the next couple of days." Newly-appointed BLOs have undergone a couple of rounds of training. Sources in the election offices told ET, "Last month, BLOs were appointed largely drawn from the teaching community. As it was summer vacation, training sessions were rolled out for BLOs on the electoral roll revision. Registration of BLOs on the App is underway." A BLO told ET, "We are asked to work for the revision after school hours. In the training session, there were talks of SIR and BLO forms. In case of new voters, we are made aware of the documents we should seek like birth certificate, photograph, parent's voters identity card and address proof. For deletion, we were suggested to look for death certificates." Assam Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel has issued instructions to all district election officers to ensure immediate preparedness.

2 bodies recovered from separate dams
Bhopal: The Ratibad area was alarmed on Monday evening after the body of an unidentified man was found under the Bhadbhada Bridge near a temple at Bhadbhada Dam. According to SI Ramesh Singh, police received information about a body spotted floating in the water around 4 pm. Acting on this information, a police team reached the spot and recovered the body with the help of divers. A two-wheeler key, a switched-off mobile phone, and an Aadhaar card were found on the deceased. The Aadhaar card bore the name Sajid Ansari, 32, a resident of Bank Nagar Colony, Ashoka Garden. In another incident, the body of a man who drowned in Kaliasot Dam while partying with relatives was recovered on Monday evening, more than 24 hours after he went missing. Chunabhatti SHO Dharmendra Mourya said the deceased, Bhagwan Singh, 35, a native of Vidisha, came to his in-laws' house near Shaitan Singh Square, Shahpura, for Raksha Bandhan along with his wife. On Sunday afternoon around 2:15 pm, Bhagwan went to Kaliasot Dam with his brother-in-law and friends to celebrate. During the party, Bhagwan and a few others entered the water for a swim. MP board relaxes Apaar ID rule, relief for parents, teachers
Indore: In a major relief for parents and schoolteachers across the state, Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) decided to relax the mandatory requirement of Apaar ID for Class 9–12 examination applications in 2025–26 academic session. The Apaar ID, a unique identification number for each student, became a source of stress in recent months. To generate it, the names and addresses of students' parents had to match exactly in both Aadhaar and Samagra databases. Even a minor spelling error meant parents spent hours in long queues at Aadhaar centres or visited municipal corporation zones for Samagra corrections. Teachers were also under pressure to meet strict deadlines for collecting data, often diverting attention from academic work. "Parents were spending days just to correct a single digit or letter in records. The relaxation means we can now focus on teaching rather than paperwork," said Ramesh Arya, a govt school teacher from Indore. The order, issued recently, states that Apaar ID will no longer be mandatory while filling exam forms this year.
