'Don't burn him out': RP Singh sounds alarm, says Mohammed Siraj is in Jasprit Bumrah's league
NEW DELHI:
Mohammed Siraj
might have just delivered the performance of his life in England, but former India pacer RP Singh has warned against overworking the fast bowler, saying India must manage Siraj's workload with the same care as
Jasprit Bumrah
if they want to preserve him for the long haul.

Speaking to PTI-Bhasha after India's thrilling 2-2 draw in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Singh said: 'Fast bowlers are at higher risk of injury when they play too many matches in a short time. Siraj's workload should be managed just like we did with Bumrah.'
Poll
Should India manage Mohammed Siraj's workload similar to Jasprit Bumrah's?
Yes, to prevent injuries
No, he can handle more
Only during critical matches
Siraj bowled a massive 185.3 overs across the five-match Test series and emerged as the leading wicket-taker with 23 wickets, including a memorable 5-wicket haul in the Oval decider.
The final delivery of the series — a 143 kmph yorker to clean up Gus Atkinson — was among his top five fastest deliveries of the tour.
IND vs ENG: Mohammed Siraj reflects on memorable win at The Oval
'He was the only Indian bowler who played all five Tests and still maintained full energy throughout. That speaks volumes of his fitness and mental strength. He never lacked effort.'
Singh believes that Siraj, like Bumrah, is now indispensable: 'Siraj is in the same league as Bumrah now. To protect him from injuries, we need to seriously focus on his workload.'
Highlighting their camaraderie, Singh said: 'Just like batsmen need partnerships, so do bowlers. Bumrah and Siraj complement each other. When Bumrah isn't around, Siraj becomes the leader automatically.'
RP Singh also praised Shubman Gill's captaincy, calling his leadership and 754-run tally 'outstanding.'
IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill on Oval thriller, Siraj's spell, and missing Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah
On India's cautious team selections, Singh sympathised with players like
Kuldeep Yadav
and Arshdeep Singh, who sat out the series: 'The team focused on strengthening the batting with all-rounders.
Kuldeep could've been effective on at least two or three wickets. But such calls happen. He'll get more chances.'
Singh also endorsed like-for-like injury substitutions, pointing to brave efforts from
Rishabh Pant
and Chris Woakes, who batted through serious injuries.
'There should be a neutral doctor or physio who can decide the injury status. Teams should be allowed replacements for players who are genuinely unfit.'
With his standout showing in England, Siraj has become India's go-to pace warrior — but Singh's warning is clear: if not managed carefully, this workhorse could burn out too soon.

India gets a point for its effort, which keeps it in second place in Group D. The side will next take on Turkmenistan on Friday. Neha's sixth-minute cross from the left wing deceived the Indonesian defence, leaving Pooja and Sulanjana Raul on the chase at the far post. A simple touch could have posed serious questions to Indonesian goalkeeper Alleana Ayu Arumy, but the ball eluded both. As the clock ticked past the half-hour mark, Sulanjana and Pooja tried their luck from long range. While the former's effort missed the target by inches, the latter saw her shot fly straight into Alleana's hands. Neha looked lively down the left flank after the change of ends, but the Indonesia defenders worked in unison to isolate her and gain possession of the With a little over 20 minutes left, India began to press high. Sibani Devi Nongmeikapam intercepted a pass in the attacking third and cut it back for substitute Babita Kumari.. The latter, however, was unable to get a touch on the ball. Minutes later, Sibani looked to find Babita again with a cross from the left, but Alleana collected it calmly. Indonesia's only notable chance of the match came in the 87th minute, when substitute Ajeng Sri Handayani bounded past the India defence and attempted to place the ball at the far post. India goalkeeper Monalisha Devi Moirangthem, however, got down low to make a save before Thoibisana Chanu Toijam cleared.

NHL free agency 2025: Jack Roslovic still unsigned as Toronto Maple Leafs remain in the mix for top forward
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports Despite the flurry of signings early in the NHL free agency period, forward Jack Roslovic remains one of the few notable names still available on the market. The 28-year-old, who netted 22 goals last season, continues to draw interest, particularly from the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are reportedly among a handful of teams still pursuing the skilled winger as they navigate salary cap challenges. Toronto Maple Leafs still pursuing Jack Roslovic amid NHL free agency buzz and tight salary cap Roslovic, a former first-round pick of the Winnipeg Jets, split time last season between the Columbus Blue Jackets, Carolina Hurricanes, and briefly, the New York Rangers. His offensive production and top-six upside have kept him on the radar of several NHL clubs, with Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman recently confirming on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast that five to six teams remain interested, including the Maple Leafs. While Roslovic is believed to be seeking the right fit both financially and structurally, Toronto's interest remains steady. However, Friedman noted that the Leafs are 'trying to move money around,' suggesting the team needs to clear cap space before making a formal offer. With a forward group already bolstered by recent additions like Dakota Joshua, Nicolas Roy, Matias Maccelli, and Michael Pezzetta, signing Roslovic could push the Leafs to offload veteran contracts, potentially involving David Kampf or Calle Järnkrok. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Legendary Cars from the Past Undo Toronto Maple Leafs roster decisions could shape next move in Jack Roslovic free agency pursuit Toronto's forward depth chart is packed heading into 2025–26, with internal competition heating up. Jack Roslovic, coming off a $2.8 million deal, would require a cap-adjusted contract, but his skill set offers flexibility the Leafs could value, particularly with their need for reliable secondary scoring. Veterans like Kampf, who saw a diminished role last season, and Järnkrok, who struggled with injuries, appear to be logical trade candidates if Toronto wants to fit Roslovic under the cap. Whether GM Brad Treliving chooses to make a roster-shaping move may determine how serious the Leafs' pursuit ultimately is. As the NHL offseason enters its quietest stretch, Jack Roslovic remains a valuable option on the open market. With teams like Toronto still interested but limited by cap constraints, any potential signing will likely hinge on additional roster movement, setting up a possible late-summer shake-up.
