England overcome weather delay for emphatic test victory
Curtis Langdon, Luke Northmore and Cadan Murley all scored tries as England were 19-0 ahead at halftime while Jack van Poortvliet, his replacement Harry Randall and debutant Gabriel Oghre added three more tries after the break. England captain George Ford put over four conversions and Charlie Atkinson one.
The Americans scored their only points on the final whistle from a line-out break finished off by Shilo Klein.
The start of the test at Audi Field, watched by some 19,000 spectators, was delayed for an hour by a weather alert and the players were taken off for a further half-hour when the referee ordered both teams off the field in the 29th minute because of a lightning warning.
The disruptions, plus high humidity, had little ill effect on England, however, as they dominated the clash and might have posted a more emphatic scoreline were it not for handling errors.
Having beaten Argentina in two tests earlier this month, despite ceding 13 players to the original British & Irish Lions squad and a further two subsequent replacements, England used six new caps against the U.S. with an eye on increasing selection options for the World Cup in two years' time.
"The conditions were difficult but it was a good group effort and a huge experience for the new players," said Ford after the final whistle.

"It's a tournament created for the people of the neighbourhoods, to build atmosphere and friendship," said organiser Giuseppe Pipino. "Naples is sometimes criticised for not being a good example, but the Scugnizzo Cup is for those kids who face more difficulties." The tournament brings neighbourhood and migrant teams together to play matches in a tight concrete courtyard. "The Scugnizzo Cup is the testament to a need felt by the city, to reclaim a sport that can no longer be just watched from the stands," volunteer Julian Foster said. "It shows us that you can still have fun without massive stadiums and football superstar, that there are other ways of being together, ways that have slowly been taken away or forgotten." Beale captains First Nations & Pasifika XV against Lions
BRISBANE - Kurtley Beale will get his chance to face the British & Irish Lions on a second tour after being named captain of the First Nations & Pasifika XV team for Tuesday's clash in Melbourne. The 95-cap flyhalf, who famously slipped while taking a potentially match-winning penalty in the first test against the Lions in 2013, was robbed of the chance of facing the tourists for Western Force last month by a hamstring injury. The 36-year-old, one of only 15 indigenous Australians to have represented the Wallabies, has recovered sufficiently to lead a strong backline at Dockland's Stadium. "Kurtley is the most experienced player in the squad and was the natural selection for captain," coach Toutai Kefu said in a news release. "He is an extremely talented footballer and has been there and done it on the big stage." Beale is one of six indigenous players in the line-up with the rest of the matchday squad made up of players with Pacific islands heritage. Tongan-born prop Taniela Tupou and Fijian-born winger Filipo Daugunu were released from the Wallabies squad for the match and will have a chance to show coach Joe Schmidt that they should be in the reckoning for the second and third tests. Irish lock McCarthy was taken off with a foot problem early in the second half at Lang Park on Saturday after continuing his fine form with a barnstorming performance as the Lions dominated the Wallabies before the break. "Plantar fascia," Farrell told reporters after the Lions beat the Wallabies 27-19 to go 1-0 up in the three-match series. "It was niggling away at him and hopefully we got him off in time." Brown is the fourth player called up from the Scotland squad which has just completed its tour of the Pacific, joining winger Darcy Graham and props Rory Sutherland and Ewan Ashman. So hopefully they carry on on that trajectory and could be available for Tuesday," he said. Previous Lions squads have been riven by divisions and discontent when it became clear who was in the test team and who would be limited to the "dirt trackers" side to play the midweek games. Farrell said that Tuesday's match, and not next weekend's second test, was now the sole focus for the whole touring party. "We care about the squad and nothing but the squad and that's how it's been the whole time," he said. "We've never separated once. We've all been in everything together. So we'll enjoy this victory tonight together and we travel to Melbourne tomorrow. "Then everyone will roll into making sure that the team (for Tuesday) has as good a preparation as we've had all tour, because it matters to us." Farrell also insisted that Saturday's victory did not mean that players who missed out on the matchday 23 for the first test would not be in contention to face the Wallabies at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday.
