Denis Leary confesses a nun changed his life after young 'troublemaker' days

Fox News18-04-2025

Comedian Denis Leary is crediting a nun for his illustrious career in Hollywood.
Leary, 67, confessed he was just another rebellious teenager at a Catholic school until Sister Rosemary Sullivan showed faith in the now-famous actor.
"I was a terrible student… I got into high school and Sister Rosemary Sullivan, I went to a Catholic school, all 12 years, same nuns…" he shared on "The Jennifer Hudson Show." "Everyone in the neighborhood went to that school, so they knew the troublemakers. My older brother was a troublemaker, so there's no hope for me."
While Leary admitted he wasn't exactly faithful to the teachings of his Catholic school, one determined nun had other plans for him.
"I didn't believe in what they were teaching... this nun grabs me in the hallway and goes, 'Leary, you're in the musical,'" he recalled. "'I don't want to be in a musical,' but [she said] 'You have to,' so I go..."
After the divine intervention, Leary suddenly became interested in participating in the musical when he showed up at the rehearsal space that afternoon.
"It's all the hottest girls in high school," Leary quipped.
During the auditions, Leary was confident he could sing since musical talents ran in his family. He was given a role in the play, and he told Hudson, "That moment changed my life."
Leary went on to act in musicals for the rest of his high school years and even dragged the most reluctant jocks into the spotlight.
"I told all the hockey players, 'You guys got to do this musical,'" he said.
Leary continued his rags-to-riches story, as he pointed out that his family were Irish immigrants and didn't have money to send him to college.
But with the help of Sister Sullivan, she didn't just get Leary onstage — she helped him with his next act.

When it came time for college, Sister Sullivan guided him toward an audition at Emerson College, which earned him a full scholarship.
"She changed my life," Leary repeated wholeheartedly. "I stayed friends with her until she died."
As Leary's comedy evolved to an edgier style, Sister Sullivan remained his biggest fan. He recounted that when he dropped his R-rated HBO specials, the nun still cheered him on.
"I would do an HBO special, it's just filthy," he admitted. "She'd call me up and go, 'I love the new special,' and I'm like, 'Sister, the language.'"
Sister Sullivan replied, "Ah, you kids were saying that stuff in high school."
More recently, Leary plays a colonel in his latest Hollywood project, "Going Dutch."
On the FOX comedy, Leary stars as U.S. Army Colonel Patrick Quinn, who is reassigned to a base in The Netherlands. He goes from combat command to a base staffed with misfits who he is tasked with bringing up to snuff, aided by his estranged daughter, played by Taylor Misiak, and right-hand officer, Executive Officer Major Abraham Shah, played by former "Community" star Danny Pudi.

WNYW Gets Exclusive Interview with Harvey Weinstein As He Awaits Verdict in Retrial

This morning on Good Day New York, veteran anchor Rosanna Scotto aired her exclusive interview with Harvey Weinstein. Weinstein spoke exclusively to the Fox owned New York station's morning anchor as he waits for a verdict in his New York sex crimes retrial. Scotto asked him why he didn't take the stand, what he thought about the accusations against him and his health and his regrets. Rosanna Scotto: I wanted to ask you why you did not take the stand in your own defense. Harvey Weinstein: I wanted to, and you know, and desperately wanted to. And Arthur, you know, said to me that the jury was, you know what I mean, you know, very, you know, feeling strongly that the jury in that way, you know, understood our case and would be sympathetic to our case. And that the D.A. would try to rip me apart if I took the stand. I'm not afraid of the D.A. But, you know, but this was the best advice and this is the advice you're offered here. Don't take the stand if you don't have to. Scotto: So let me ask you something. There were a lot of women who testified against you, um Weinstein: Yeah. Scotto: What do you think about those women and…and their testimony? Weinstein: I think Arthur said they have four million reasons to testify as in dollars. Scotto: Do you have… do you have any regrets whatsoever? Weinstein: I- I have regrets that I put my family through this, that I put my wife through this, that I acted immorally, you know. I put so many friends through this, you know, but you know, and hurt, you know, people. You know what I mean, that you know, that were close to me by the… by actions that were stupid, you know what I mean. But never illegal, never criminal, never anything, you know what I mean. HBO's ‘Harry Potter' Show Casts Draco Malfoy And 8 Other Characters

Harry Potter Warner Bros revealed 9 new cast members for the upcoming Harry Potter series Monday. Draco Malfoy, his father Lucius Malfoy, the Dursley parents, Molly Weasley and several other cast members have all been announced. This follows on the heels of a number of other major casting reveals including Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter; Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger; Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley; John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore; Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape; Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall; Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid; and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. Here are the latest batch of actors cast for the series: Harry Potter cast In the above image, from top left to bottom left, here are the new cast members revealed by HBO: Lox Pratt certainly has the right look for Draco Malfoy. The most surprising thing about this latest batch of casting choices is Petunia and Vernon Dursley, who are quite a lot younger and better-looking than I expected them to be. So far, the casting for the series seems pretty on-point, though obviously most of the younger cast members are relative newcomers with few acting credits. The real question is whether the show will be enough not just to rekindle an interest in the Harry Potter universe, but to light a new fire under fantasy television as a genre and enterprise. The TV format should allow for a more in-depth and faithful adaptation of the books by J.K. Rowling, but a great deal depends on its creators. All too often in recent years, adaptations have strayed much too far from the source material. The Harry Potter series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, who previously worked on Succession, His Dark Materials and Killing Eve. Killing Eve writer Laura Neal has also joined the writer's room. Mark Mylod (Succession, Game Of Thrones) will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series. Holly Waddington, who won an Oscar for Poor Things, has been signed on as costume designer. The show is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films. Filming on the first season begins this summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, UK with a 2026 release window.

Princess Charlene and Prince Albert's Twins Steal the Show as They Mark Major Royal Milestone

Twins Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella recently turned the landmark age of 10 years old. The two have had many first lately, ranging from their first Holy Communion to a major royal milestone over the weekend. Jacques and Gabriella took part alongside their parents Princess Charlene and Prince Albert in a state visit with French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife, First Lady Brigitte Macron, on June turning the milestone age of 10 last December, twins Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella of Monaco continue to achieve royal firsts—and accomplished another one this week alongside their parents Prince Albert and Princess Charlene. On June 7, the twins were on hand to welcome the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, and his wife Brigitte Macron for the Macrons' state visit to Monaco—the first time, per Hello!, that the royal children had taken part in a state visit. The Macrons sweetly chatted with Jacques and Gabriella, and Gabriella thoughtfully presented flowers to the First Lady upon her arrival. The French couple is in Monaco to bolster the 'strong ties' between France and Monaco, Hello! reported. For the occasion Saturday, Charlene understood the assignment and wore a mint Dior jacket and a pair of tan trousers, and later changed to a stunning red gown for a state dinner in the Throne Room of their palace in Monte Carlo. Per Vanity Fair, this was the first time that the royal family of Monaco hosted a state dinner with a French leader in more than 40 years. Though Jacques and Gabriella were present earlier in the day, they didn't attend the state dinner alongside their parents. When speaking to La Gazette de Monaco about which achievements he's been most proud of in his 20-year reign, Albert said, touchingly, 'What I am most proud of is my marriage and my children, first and foremost.' He also added to the Monaco Tribune that his twins 'help keep me young, too. They take some keeping up with.' Turning 10 and being a part of their first state visit aren't Jacques and Gabriella's only milestones lately. They also, per Tatler, recently took part in their first Holy Communion, a significant step for Catholic children like the twins. 'The conversations I have with Jacques and those with Gabriella are so different, as well as the time spent with them,' Charlene recently said. 'Gabriella is very curious. She is intrigued by the world and life in general.' As for her son, 'he is curious and observant, more reserved,' Charlene said. 'He is naturally very calm.' Charlene also admitted that it was 'difficult to find time to spend one-on-one' with the twosome, which she had found 'essential when you are the parent of twins.' Of the state visit over the weekend, the twins were mentioned for their significant milestone, with the royal family of Monaco writing on social media that 'Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella were also present to greet the presidential couple, demonstrating the familial and solemn character of this official reception.' 'This meeting illustrates the continuity of a relationship based on shared values, mutual trust, and a shared willingness to build together answers to great contemporary challenges,' the post continued.
