‘Big relief': Alerts lifted on multiple B.C. wildfires
The August Lake wildfire near Princeton, B.C., is listed as 'being held' and the alert for residents that was in place since Saturday has been lifted.
Residents of about 30 properties were previously ordered evacuated due to the fire, which is currently listed by the wildfire services as 14 hectares in size.
The nearby Princeton Golf Club says in a post online that news of the alert being lifted is a 'big relief for everyone in the area' and it is grateful for the efforts of firefighters and air personnel.

The regional district also lifted an evacuation alert near Cathedral Provincial Park due to the Young Creek wildfire, saying the threat to safety has passed.
The BC Wildfire Service listed 67 active wildfires in the province, and 40 that have been declared out in the last week.

Musgrave Harbour residents ordered to evacuate due to wildfire
The town of Musgrave Harbour has been ordered to evacuate due to a wildfire only 2 kilometers away from the community. The order also includes Banting Memorial Park Campground, close ot the town. The province issued a public advisory around 9:40 a.m. stating that a reception centre for evacuees has been set up in Gander at the Steele Memorial Centre on 155 Airport Boulevard. The Canadian Red Cross will also be there to assist. The province says busing transportation to Gander will be available for residents. The letter states that the council has determined that the wildfire poses a serious safety risk to residents and property within the town. They are asking that all people located within the town of Musgrave Harbour to evacuate immediately. Meanwhile the air quality warning on the Bonavista peninsula due to the fire near Chance Harbour has been lifted. As of Saturday, that fire had grown to over 1,660 hectares and was still considered out of control. Provincial Fire Duty Officer Wesley Morgan says the wind has been helping keep the fire away from the nearby towns of Jamestown and Winter Brook. However it is still very much considered an active fire.

Longtime CBC Vancouver weather forecaster Phil Reimer dies at 84
Social Sharing Longtime CBC weather forecaster Phil Reimer has died at the age of 84. Reimer worked at CBC News for more than two decades. He also worked at CKWX, CKNW and the Vancouver Sun. His children say Reimer died at Vancouver General Hospital on Wednesday surrounded by loved ones. Gloria Macarenko, host of CBC's On The Coast and Reimer's former on-air colleague, shared her condolences with his family. "Anyone who knew Phil will remember his warm smile, his countless stories, his never-ending projects and his constant optimism," she said. "I will certainly treasure memories of times that I spent with him and I will miss him dearly." Born in Winnipeg, Reimer left school in Grade 10 for an all-night disc jockey job at a radio station in Victoria. He worked as a sportscaster in Winnipeg, even playing in a CFL game with the city's Blue Bombers. "I just got beat up," he told the Vancouver Sun of his time as an embedded reporter. He spent part of the 1970s selling tours to Elvis Presley concerts, and returned to broadcasting following the singer's death in 1977. Ahead of his final weather report for CKNW in 2006, Reimer told the Vancouver Sun that he had delivered about 75,000 forecasts in his career. "How many people blame me for the weather? About the same amount," he joked. Reimer told the Sun that one of the jobs of a weather forecaster is to keep things simple. "You have to relate to your audience. Don't get too scientific," he said. "Weather is probably one of the most relevant parts of any newscast. It determines what people do for the next 24 hours." A little humour also helped.
