PM inaugurates Rs 11,000cr road projects linking Delhi and Haryana
2
Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated enhanced and faster road connectivity between Haryana and New Delhi, while criticising the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi for indulging in negative politics "aimed at creating divisions between the two neighbouring states".
Modi addressed a gathering to dedicate the Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) National Highway projects, aimed at enhancing road connectivity between Delhi and Haryana. The projects, worth approximately Rs 11,000 crore, were inaugurated in the presence of Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta, Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari, and other senior officials.
While praising successive BJP chief ministers and current Haryana CM Saini, Modi took a veiled dig at the previous AAP govt in Delhi and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. Without naming them directly, he referred to the state of affairs during their tenure, saying, "A few months ago, there was a conspiracy to pit the people of Haryana and Delhi against each other. The opposition accused the people of Haryana of poisoning Delhi's water.

Now Delhi and Haryana have been freed from such negative politics."
Modi also commended CM Saini's leadership, highlighting improvements in governance under the BJP-led govt in Haryana. "In previous govts in Haryana, getting a job without connections or expenses was impossible. But now, under chief minister Nayab Singh Saini's leadership, jobs are being given to the youth without connections or expenses," he said.
Modi added that Saini is carrying forward this tradition with commitment, and that the government's constant endeavour to simplify people's lives is clearly reflected in its policies and decisions.
CM Nayab Singh Saini, while addressing the gathering, expressed gratitude to the Centre and PM Modi for the development projects in the state. He noted that the Prime Minister's support has brought six road projects worth Rs 11,000 crore to benefit both Haryana and Delhi.
Saini also praised Modi's efforts in driving the overall development of the country.
"Under the Urban Extension Road-2 project, two new four-lane connecting roads from Sonipat to Bahadurgarh are included. It is not just Haryana, but infrastructure work is progressing strongly across every part of the country," said Saini. He added that Prime Minister Modi's efforts will prove to be a milestone in building a developed India and a developed Haryana.
He also mentioned that a major facility like AIIMS is being provided in Haryana's Rewari, thanks to the Prime Minister's special affection towards the state.
Of the total Rs 11,000 crore worth of projects, two major ones will directly benefit Haryana —namely, the construction of two new four-lane connectivity roads to Sonipat and Bahadurgarh under the UER-2 project.
Saini emphasised that Haryana, being the industrial and agricultural hub of North India, stands to gain the most from these projects. He said the key infrastructure developments will not only boost exports, imports, and investments by ensuring direct connectivity from Kundli, Sonipat, Bahadurgarh, Gurugram, and Manesar to Delhi Airport, but will also provide long-awaited relief from traffic congestion in the region.

Shubhanshu Shukla meets PM Modi; gifts tri-colour that travelled to space
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (August 18, 2025) met Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who became the first Indian astronaut to travel to the International Space Station (ISS). Mr. Shukla, who was part of the Axiom-4 commercial mission to the ISS from June 25-July 15, met the Prime Minister at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence. Mr. Modi welcomed Mr. Shukla, who was wearing an ISRO astronaut's jacket, with a warm hug and walked with him with his arm on the astronaut's shoulder. Mr. Shukla gifted the Prime Minister the mission patch of the Axiom-4 mission and the Indian tricolour that he had taken with him to the ISS. This Indian tricolour was fluttering in the background on the ISS when Mr. Shukla interacted with Modi on June 29. "Had a great interaction with Shubhanshu Shukla. We discussed a wide range of subjects including his experiences in space, progress in science & technology as well as India's ambitious Gaganyaan mission. India is proud of his feat," Mr. Modi said in a post on X. The Lucknow-born astronaut was also seen showing pictures he had taken from the ISS on a tablet computer to Prime Minister Modi. Mr. Shukla was part of the Axiom-4 private space mission that lifted off from Florida on June 25 and docked at the International Space Station on June 26. He returned to Earth on 15 July. The Prime Minister interacted with Mr. Shukla on June 29 in the initial days of the Axiom-4 mission that had docked at the ISS. He had also asked the astronaut to document his learning, training and stay at the International Space Station that would help India's future missions, including Gaganyaan. Mr. Shukla returned to India on Sunday (August 17, 2025). In a press interaction earlier this month, Shukla said that he had fulfilled the task entrusted to him by Prime Minister Modi to document every aspect of his mission for the benefit of India's upcoming Gaganyaan programme. "I remember very well the homework given to me by the prime minister. And I completed it very well. I am very excited to come back and share it with you all. I am confident that all that knowledge is going to prove extremely useful and crucial for us, for our own Gaganyaan mission," Mr. Shukla said on August 1. Along with three other astronauts — Peggy Whitson (U.S.), Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski (Poland), and Tibor Kapu (Hungary) -- Shukla conducted over 60 experiments and 20 outreach sessions during the 20-day Axiom-4 mission.

'False, baseless, and factless statements': Sanjay Singh accuses EC of fraud, questions privacy claims
"False, baseless, and factless statements": Sanjay Singh accuses EC of fraud, questions privacy claims NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Election Commission, alleging it engaged in vote theft and fraud and slammed the refusal of Election Commission of India (ECI) to share CCTV footage citing privacy, questioning why voter participation videos violate privacy when broadcast publicly. The AAP MP said that the EC's recent press conference was full of "false, baseless, and factless statements" and questioned whether the EC acted upon complaints submitted during the Delhi elections. "Yesterday, their press conference made it clear to the entire country that the Election Commission has stolen votes and committed fraud. To cover this up, they made false, baseless, and factless statements in the press conference... Did the Election Commission take any action on the complaints received?... We had submitted in writing during the Delhi elections to take action, but no action was you are making false excuses. " He challenged the EC's claim that releasing CCTV footage violates privacy, citing televised voter participation as proof. "They are saying that CCTV footage cannot be provided because it would violate privacy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? What privacy is being violated by showing that?" the AAP MP said. Meanwhile, BJP MP Sambit Patra slammed the Congress Party for continuously opposing the Special Intensive Review (SIR) in Bihar and disrupting the working of the house, saying that they are protecting the infiltrators. Questioning the behaviour of the Congress party and Leader of Opposition of Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, BJP MP Sambit Patra told ANI, "The whole of India is seeing the behaviour of the Congress Party and opposition parties for the last few days, especially with regard to the SIR issue and the Bihar elections. You all are seeing that the activities of the Parliament are being obstructed. No work is being allowed to be done. What is the intention behind this? What is the intention behind the tour that Rahul Gandhi is doing?" He further noted that the Congress party wants to save the infiltrators and added, " There is only one intention behind this, and that intention is how to save the infiltrators."Patra called the SIR a natural process and a responsibility of the Election Commission to remove the illegal voters. He said, "This is a natural process that it becomes the responsibility of the Election Commission to clean up the infiltrators. They should not come in the electoral roll, and they should not be able to participate in the elections. They do not have the right to vote. How to win elections through infiltrators, how to use infiltrators, how to promote the politics of appeasement, this is what Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party have been doing. .." This statement of Patra came after the Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) leaders continued their protest in Parliament premises against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in poll-bound Bihar on Monday. The protests have continued despite the Election Commission clarifying on the allegations on Sunday, while also asking Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to submit a signed affidavit with proof of his claims of election rigging. MPs, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Abhishek Banerjee, Kanimozhi and others, protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar and allegations of 'vote chori' against the BJP and the Election Commission of India. The opposition parties have been protesting against the revision of voter lists since the commencement of the Parliament monsoon session on July 21, with the treasury benches accusing the Opposition of disrupting Parliament proceedings. Calling the ongoing exercise 'Silent Invisible Rigging' of votes, the INDIA bloc leaders held banners calling for the stop of 'Vote chori'.

'Committed to speedy reforms': PM Modi chairs key business meet; next-generation GST reforms discussed
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday chaired a high-level meeting with senior ministers, secretaries and economists to discuss the roadmap for 'next-generation reforms' and a revision of GST laws. Sharing a post on X, the Prime Minister said, 'Chaired a meeting to discuss the roadmap for Next-Generation Reforms.' 'We are committed to speedy reforms across all sectors, which will boost Ease of Living, Ease of Doing Business and prosperity,' he added. The meeting was attended by Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Piyush Goyal and Lalan Singh. This high level meeting came after PM Modi's Independence Day address, where he promised a 'Diwali gift' in the form of GST reforms and a lighter tax burden. 'This Diwali, I am going to make it a double Diwali for you... Over the past eight years, we have undertaken a major reform in GST... We are bringing next-generation GST reforms. This will reduce the tax burden across the country,' he said, ensuring that these reforms directly benefit citizens and stimulate economic activity. Following his announcement, the Centre rolled out a draft blueprint for GST 2.0, proposing two primary tax slabs, 5% for essential items and 18% for most other goods, to simplify the system and ease compliance. Currently, the GST framework has five slabs—nil, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%—with additional rates of 0.25% and 3% on precious metals. PM Modi also announced the formation of a Task Force for next-generation reforms, which will review existing laws, rules and procedures related to economic activities. The timing of these announcements is significant, as they come amid heightened trade tensions with the United States. US President Donald Trump slapped India with an additional 'penalty' tariff of 25% on all Indian imports, on top of the 25% duty already in place, citing India's continued purchase of Russian oil. While the 25% rate took effect from August 7, 2025, the newly announced additional tariff will come into place August 27. In response, the ministry of external affairs called the move "unfortunate" and reiterated its stand that India would continue to protect its "own national interest."
