Ryan Reynolds Says Deadpool Can Never Join the Avengers or X-Men

You wouldn't have to look far to find someone who thinks Deadpool doesn't belong in either the Avengers or the X-Men. Considering his utter lack of boundaries, his penchant for hitting on everyone he works with, and a criminally casual view of bloodletting, he wouldn't exactly fit in with the likes of Captain America and Spider-Man; not to mention Cyclops would blast him through a wall within the first five minutes of meeting him. But according to Reynolds, none of those reasons are why the Merc with a Mouth can never join either of those teams, but because if he were to become an Avenger or an X-Man, it would mean the end of his story.

Reynolds was speaking with Time's Eliana Dockterman when he was asked about what was in store for the future of Deadpool, as well as about previous statements from Reynolds in which he said he thought Deadpool worked best as a supporting character. Reynolds gave a longer response which ended with, "I'm writing a little something right now which is like an ensemble, but it's...I like things isolated. If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or X-Men we're at the end and that's his wish fulfillment, and you can't give him that."

We've caught glimpses of Deadpool trying and failing to become a part of the teams. In "Deadpool 2" he briefly becomes an X-Men trainee, but his tenure ends with him abruptly killing a child abuser and being thrown in prison. Later in the same film he tries to form his own team, X-Force, but that ends with most of his new team dead.
Early in last year's "Deadpool & Wolverine" we see Wade Wilson trying to talk to Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) into giving him a shot with the Avengers, but the interview ends with a gentle but firm thanks but no thanks from Tony Stark's former driver.
Deadpool may not be able to join the Avengers or the X-Men officially, but that doesn't mean he can't be in their movies. Ryan Reynolds's name was left out of Marvel's epic 5 hour announcement for "Avengers: Doomsday" but Kevin Feige has confirmed more names are coming. And even if Reynolds isn't a part of "Doomsday," there's always 2027's "Avengers: Secret Wars".

THE MARVELS Director Nia DaCosta Comments on the Film's Low Numbers Pointing to "Lack of a Really Solid Script" — GeekTyrant

The Marvels (2023) served as a sequel to not only Captain Marvel (2019), but also the limited series Ms. Marvel , and it incorporated the returning characters into a team that worked together to save the universe. It was a fun flick, but it did not do well at the box office, and it unfortunately ended up being Marvel's lowest-grossing movie of all time. Looking back on it, director Nia DaCosta revealed to THR that it really seems to her like the script was the biggest obstacle in making the movie a success. DaCosta is making the rounds promoting her upcoming film 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple , and she said of the difference in the projects: 'Making the 28 Years Later sequel was one of the best filmmaking experiences I've had. One of the issues I had with Candyman and Marvels was the lack of a really solid script, which is always gonna just wreak havoc on the whole process.' DaCosta was a co-writer on both of those films, but she is also relatively early in her career, and she is learning new things with every film she makes, so it's great to see the missteps along the way and learn from them. The 28 Years Later sequel will be released on January 16, 2026, and her romantic drama Hedda , starring Tessa Thompson, is set to be released on October 22, 2025.

Venom's MCU Future Teased in New Rumor, Could Factor Into Avengers Movies

A new rumor regarding Venom's role in the MCU and what it could mean for future movies, including Avengers projects, hints at how the iconic symbiote could factor into Marvel Studios' grand scheme. What is the new Venom MCU rumor? During a recent Q&A session on The Cosmic Circus, insider Alex Perez was asked about Venom. As fans might remember, a small piece of the Venom symbiote was left in the mainline universe of the MCU by Tom Hardy and Venom in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home. According to Perez, the symbiote 'does belong to another universe,' and by existing in a different universe for so long, it will begin to 'cause friction' against the boundaries of the universe. Perez was also asked about the symbiote bonding with the likes of Spider-Man and Scorpion, the latter of which has also been heavily rumored. Perez said that he doesn't believe any other heroes or villains will interact with the symbiote besides those two, and jokingly invoked the 'fifth amendment privilege' when asked if the symbiote will 'have any importance' on Brand New Day. Elsewhere in the Q&A, Perez was asked about potential villains that Marvel Studios might have an eye out for in Tom Holland's rumored second trilogy of Spider-Man films. Perez said that villains like Wilson Fisk, Venom, Tombstone, Hammerhead, and Prowler have all been names tossed around. So far, only Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been revealed Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The movie will once again be led by Tom Holland as he reprises his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Emmy winner Zendaya and Jacob Batalo are also expected to return for the sequel. They will be joined by recently announced cast members Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), with Jon Bernthal set to make his movie debut as Frank Castle/Punisher. The latter recently played the anti-hero again in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. The movie is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Rachel O'Connor, and Avi Arad. Spider-Man 4 will be released in United States theaters on July 31, 2026 ahead of Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (December 17, 2027), following Doomsday's delay.
