TSA just made 4 big changes — here's what every US traveler needs to know before flying
Synopsis Travelling from America will change soon. New rules from TSA will affect security and baggage checks. Regular driver's licenses will not work from May 2025. Passengers need REAL ID or passport. Power banks are banned in checked bags. Shoes can stay on at most airports now. Liquid rules are also changing. New scanners might allow bigger bottles soon. Traveling from the US just became more prolonged as the TSA announced four new sets of rules which will affect everything from security checks to baggage. From May 7, 2025, the TSA will not accept regular driver's licenses that are not REAL ID-compliant. You must show either: A REAL ID (you can get this from your state DMV) or a valid passport.

You may be moved to a separate area for extra identity checks.
Even TSA PreCheck travelers are not exempt from this rule.

TSA officers will ask for your name, address, or other personal info to confirm your identity. If your identity is confirmed, you'll be allowed to go through security, but with extra screening. If you refuse ID verification, don't cooperate, or fail identity confirmation, you won't be allowed to go past security at all, as per the Daily Express.
Power banks and portable phone chargers, with lithium-ion batteries, are no longer allowed in checked luggage. These items must go in your carry-on bag only.TSA made this rule because lithium batteries can overheat or catch fire, especially if they are damaged, or exposed to extreme heat or pressure inside the cargo hold. It's a safety rule to avoid fire risks mid-air, according to the report by Daily Express. Travelers no longer have to take off their shoes at TSA security checkpoints in most U.S. airports, as shared by travel blogger Pollyann, @travelwithpalma on Instagram. This new rule started in July 2024.

Now, TSA has relaxed this rule at most airports to make the process faster and easier. Some travelers may still be asked to remove shoes depending on the location or screening process — but it's no longer required everywhere.TSA is testing new scanners in some airports that could soon allow larger liquid bottles in carry-ons. For now, the 3-1-1 rule still applies:

Tesla gets multiple shareholder proposals related to investment in xAI
Tesla said on Friday it had received a number of shareholder proposals regarding the company's plan to invest in CEO Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI. Musk ruled out a merger between Tesla and xAI earlier in July, but said he planned to hold a shareholder vote on investment in the startup by the automaker. The proposals come amid significant funding activity for xAI this year. The startup completed a $5 billion debt raise alongside a separate $5 billion strategic equity investment, Morgan Stanley said last month. Musk has pursued an integration strategy across his business empire, with xAI acquiring social media platform X in March for $33 billion to enhance its chatbot training capabilities, while also integrating the Grok chatbot into Tesla vehicles. The potential investment discussion comes as Tesla faces various challenges, including Musk's political activities, which have impacted demand for its electric vehicles and triggered a 22% drop in its shares this year. "Shareholders are welcome to put forward any shareholder proposals they'd like," Musk said on Tesla's quarterly earnings call on Wednesday. Tesla, which will hold its annual shareholder meeting on November 6, said it would only include one proposal on each topic in its proxy statement, in accordance with the SEC rules. Earlier this month, the board set July 31 as the deadline for the submission of shareholder proposals to be included in the proxy statement.

She wrote that even after years of travel, she enjoys every step of the journey, including checking in, browsing shops, watching the plane take off. She admitted that the ongoing 'bizarre aviation pandemic' made her look back and reflect on the experience of travel. She mentioned that despite countless flights, it had never crossed her mind that any one of them could be her last. She said that she isn't naïve or taking life for granted, but is rather grateful for being safe and truly prays for the safety of every passenger flying anywhere in the world. In the caption of her latest Instagram post, Shefali Shah wrote, 'I love flying. I can't remember the first time I flew or how I felt, but it must be similar to what I feel even today. Unadulterated excitement. I can't sleep a wink before I travel. Many choose to go cut-to-cut to their flight time; I like to go early, especially for middle-of-the-night flights. Inside the airport is a world wide awake as the outside sleeps. Then checking in, loading the bags, hoping they aren't overweight, strapping on the hand baggage tag (which they don't give anymore), getting my boarding pass. Even if I've pre-selected the seat, still confirming, 'It's a window seat na?" And rejoicing when it is, like I got a surprise gift." She further added that in the next 2 hours, she enjoys going into stores, picking a coffee and buying books. Then when boarding is announced, she heads to the gate, enters the plane and excitedly looks for her seat. 'I'm not proud of it, but like many, I don't intently watch the safety demo, I've seen it a thousand times. And I don't think I'm ever going to need an emergency protocol. I message my family 'Taking off," switch off my phone, and along with it, I switch off the outside world. As the plane taxis, I sit, eyes glued to the window. Little lights blinking. Multiple planes waiting in queue. Music fades, engines roar, and this beast we take for granted rises, nose up." She further continued, 'Even now, I feel awed. Even now, I feel butterflies in my tummy. But the bizarre ongoing aviation pandemic made me look back and I realised, NOT ONCE… in all these years of travel, has it occurred to me this may be the last journey I'll ever take. No, I'm not naive or taking life for granted. I'm grateful for being safe and blessed, and I truly hope and pray that so is everyone flying anywhere in the world." On the work front, Shefali was last seen in the acclaimed film Three of Us, co-starring Jaideep Ahlawat and Swanand Kirkire.
