Prime Minister Meets Secretary-General of the Arab League
Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today, Tuesday, with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
'The meeting included a review of the final preparations and logistical arrangements for the upcoming Arab Summit, scheduled to take place this Saturday in the capital, Baghdad. Both sides emphasized the importance of ensuring the summit's success in a manner that reflects Iraq's prominent regional and Arab standing and contributes to realizing the aspirations of the Arab peoples,' stated the Media Office of the Prime Minister in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA.
The statement added,"The meeting also highlighted the significance of the summit as it convenes at a critical juncture amid serious developments and challenges facing the Arab region and the broader Middle East. Prime Minister Al-Sudani affirmed Iraq's active role in proposing practical solutions and forward-looking initiatives to address current issues".
The statement further continued,"The Prime Minister further underscored the importance of strengthening the Arab League's mechanisms and institutions across all areas of Arab cooperation, including joint efforts to confront economic, environmental, and development challenges, as well as reinforcing collective Arab security cooperation".

Over the past 18 months, more than 90,000 participants have undergone training, 48,000 have completed it, and 12,000 loans have been disbursed. The Parliamentary Committee on Labor, Social Affairs, and Displaced Persons pointed out that nearly 15 million Iraqis are unemployed. Among the government's responses to this crisis is the Riyada Initiative, launched in March 2023 to support young people through loans and small projects aimed at boosting the private sector and creating jobs. Training activities began in July 2023, and the first batch of loans was released in March 2024, drawing broad participation from Iraqi youth.

Iraq's leaders hail KDP's 79th anniversary

In a statement, al-Sudani highlighted the party's role since its founding in 1946, noting its resistance to dictatorship and contributions to building democratic governance. He urged continued cooperation to strengthen national achievements. In turn, al-Mashhadani underscored the KDP's sacrifices in pursuit of freedom, justice, and pluralism, describing it as a cornerstone of Iraq's political system and an essential partner in sustaining stability. Currently led by Masoud Barzani, the KDP is the dominant force in the Kurdistan Regional Government, holding 39 seats in the Kurdish Parliament. Nationally, it is also a significant player, with 31 seats in the Iraqi Parliament.
