After a double dose of drama, Maryland advances to the Sweet 16

Washington Post25-03-2025
Chaos reigned inside Xfinity Center on Monday night.
Maryland Coach Brenda Frese waved her arms in desperation. Alabama guard Sarah Ashlee Barker set a school record, pouring in 45 points. Maryland guard Sarah Te-Biasu buried three-pointer after three-pointer. The fans didn't sit for what seemed like an eternity.
With 1.8 seconds left in the second overtime and Maryland holding a three-point lead, the building rocked as 'Swag Surfin'' blared from the speakers. A steal by Te-Biasu sent the Terrapins into a frenzy as the buzzer sounded — and propelled Maryland to the NCAA women's basketball tournament's Sweet 16 with a 111-108 victory over Alabama, which had led by 17 points in the second half.

Former Alabama star emerging in trade rumors ahead of 2025 NFL season

According to reports, a former Alabama Crimson Tide running back is emerging in trade rumors as we inch closer to the 2025 NFL season. Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Brian Robinson Jr. did not play in the Washington Commanders' 31-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, a mutual decision between the former Alabama standout and the team. Garafolo also reported that a trade before the 53-man roster cut "remains a possibility." A former third round pick by Washington in the 2022 NFL draft, Robinson has started 37-of-41 games across each of the past three seasons with the Commanders, rushing for a combined 2,329 yards and 15 touchdowns on 570 attempts. Robinson also has a combined 65 receptions for 587 yards and five touchdowns during that span. Last season, Robinson had likely his best season in the NFL yet, rushing for 799 yards and eight touchdowns on 187 attempts. Starting 13-of-14 games, Robinson also had 20 receptions for 159 yards. Bama in the NFL: Former Alabama kicker among preseason Week 2 standouts

Week 2 of the 2025 NFL preseason has now officially passed, which means that we are now yet another weekend closer to the start of the regular season. When taking a look back at this past weekend as well, it was yet another solid slate of games for former Alabama Crimson Tide players in the NFL, as many of the same names from Week 1 of the preseason made an impact yet again in Week 2. Many of these names are already established starters with their respective teams, while others are either competing for a starting spot, or are rookies taking the field for the first time at the professional level. Let's take a look at five of the biggest performances from former Alabama stars during Week 2 of the 2025 NFL preseason. Will Reichard, Kicker - Minnesota Vikings A standout from Week 1, Reichard once again impressed this past weekend during Minnesota's 20-12 loss to New England, accounting for each of the Vikings' points. Reichard was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goal attempts in the loss, making from yards of 34, 54, 47, and 27. Anfernee Jennings, Outside Linebacker - New England Patriots Jennings was likely Alabama's most impressive defensive performance from this past weekend, finishing with three tackles, three sacks, three TFL, and three quarterback hits during New England's matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The Patriots defeated the Vikings, 20-12. Jihaad Campbell, Inside Linebacker - Philadelphia Eagles The rookie first round pick had likely his top showing yet of the preseason during Philadelphia's 22-13 loss against the Browns. Campbell finished with four tackles, one sack, one TFL, and one quarterback hit. Henry To'oTo'o, Inside Linebacker - Houston Texans To'oTo'o finished as the Texans leading tackler during Houston's 20-3 win over the Carolina Panthers. The former Alabama linebacker ended the game with five tackles, three of which were solo. Irv Smith Jr., Tight End - Houston Texans Rounding out this week's five standouts is Smith, who led Houston in receiving during the Texans 20-3 win over the Panthers. Smith finished with five receptions for 46 yards, hauling in each of his targets. Joel Klatt makes prediction on Alabama's 2025 College Football Playoff fate, title hopes

The Alabama Crimson Tide will return to the College Football Playoff in 2025, Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt believes. The former quarterback and longtime color commentator on Fox's weekly "Big Noon Saturday" games unveiled his full 12-team playoff bracket, complete with his preseason pick to win the national championship on the Monday edition of his popular program, "The Joel Klatt Show: A College Football Podcast." Klatt sees Alabama making the playoff as the third of four SEC teams, behind conference champion Texas and runner-up Georgia, and ahead of LSU. The Crimson Tide will be the No. 9 seed in the playoff after finishing 10-2 in the regular season, he projects. With that body of work, Klatt believes, will come a road trip to a college football town Alabama has never visited: Manhattan, Kansas, for a first-round playoff matchup against the Big 12 champion Kansas State Wildcats. Klatt predicted that Alabama would beat Kansas State, making the Tide a small part of history. "This would be the first upset that we've gotten, a road team going into the playoff and winning," he predicted. "The first one (to do it) is going to be Alabama. Kalen DeBoer needs it. He needs a win in the College Football Playoff, I think, so I've got Alabama over Kansas State." A first-round victory is as far as the former Colorado Buffaloes starting quarterback is willing to go with Alabama, though. He sees the Crimson Tide falling to No. 1 overall seed Penn State in the quarterfinal round at the Rose Bowl. Klatt explained why he saw Alabama losing to Penn State in Pasadena. "They've got more experience. They were just here. It won't be new for them. Penn State moves on into the semifinals," Klatt said of the Nittany Lions, who made the playoff in 2024 and fell in the semifinals to Notre Dame at the Orange Bowl. Joel Klatt predicts 2025 conference championship game matchups For a national championship game prediction, Klatt took the Clemson Tigers to dethrone reigning champion Ohio State on Jan. 19 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
