Fast bowler Anshul Kamboj added as cover for India's tour of England
Fast bowler Anshul Kamboj has been added to the Test squad for India's ongoing tour of England after Arshdeep Singh was ruled out for the fourth Test in Manchester because of a deep cut on his bowling hand. Kamboj, 24, was part of the India A side, which played two three-day games last month. He took five wickets in the two games. The fast bowler impressed everyone with his speed and tight line. He has taken 79 wickets in 24 first class games for Haryana. 'Arshdeep has a deep cut and has had stitches, he will take at least ten days to get completely fit. The selectors have decided to add Kamboj in the squad,' a BCCI source said. The 26-year old Arshdeep had suffered a cut on his bowling hand during a nets session on Thursday while stopping a ball hit by Sai Sudharsan on his follow-through. The hand was stitched up and it's now unlikely he will be fit to play in the fourth Test. The suspense still remains on Akash Deep's availability as he is struggling with a groin niggle. Akash Deep didn't bowl in a nets session organised by the Indian team before leaving for Manchester. ALSO READ | Spotlight on Akash Deep as India mull pace combination for do-or-die Test against England Arshdeep hasn't been entrusted with a spot yet in Tests but if the team management chooses to rest one of the pacers, he was in the running to make his debut. India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate had said: 'Arshdeep took a ball while he was bowling there, Sai hit a ball and he tried to stop it and it's just a cut. So we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously, the medical team have taken him off to see a doctor and obviously, if he needs stitches or doesn't need stitches it's going to be important to our planning for the next few days.' On day 4 of the third Test at Lord's, in the 28th over of the England innings, Akash Deep left for the dressing room after feeling discomfort. With the team physio by his side, the pacer held his waist and grimaced. The 28-year-old has had a history of injuries that sidelined him in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024 and also in the 2025 IPL season. After being treated in the dressing room, the pacer returned to the field but didn't bowl that day. The tourists are already faced with concerns over the injury to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. He was struck on the index finger of his left hand as he attempted to collect a Jasprit Bumrah delivery that flew down the leg side during England's first innings on Day 1 of the Lord's Test. Pant was in visible pain and did not keep wickets for the rest of the Test. The Indian team will play its fourth Test match in Manchester which is scheduled to kick off from July 23.

Yashasvi Jaiswal gets stern advice to curb 'aggressive instinct' after Lord's failure: ‘A slight mistake and you're out'
Yashasvi Jaiswal has received an important piece of advice from an 1983 World Cup winner after three back-to-back dull outings with the bat in the ongoing Test series against England. Jaiswal, who started off with a century at Headingley, failed to make an impact with the bat at Lord's and was dismissed cheaply in both innings for 13 and 0. While the left-hander has generally looked comfortable against England's bowling attack, his last three failures were a stark contrast to his usual dominance. Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to score big across both innings at Lord's.(PTI) In the Lord's Test, Jaiswal couldn't settle in at the crease, managing just 13 runs in the first innings before falling for a seven-ball duck in the second. His second-innings dismissal, a mistimed pull shot off Jofra Archer, reflected a lapse in shot selection. Meanwhile, Dilip Vengsarkar, who holds the record of the only overseas batter to get his name on the Lord's honours board thrice, advised Jaiswal to curb his aggressive instincts and play the ball to its merit. "Jaiswal is a good player with a lot of potential, but he needs to curb his aggressive instincts at times. In Test cricket, you have to play each ball on its merit. A slight mistake and you're out. Since his hundred, he hasn't been among the runs, but consistency is key at the highest level. I expect a lot from him in Test cricket," Vengsarkar told RevSportz. 'Shubman Gill's skill level has been on display throughout the series' Vengsarkar further brushed aside some critics' opinion that Shubman Gill's spat with Zak Crawley had any bearing on his performance at Lord's. Gill, who perished for 12 in the first innings while chasing a wide one, may have played a rash shot, but Vengsarkar believes it had nothing to do with the altercation. He pointed to Gill's composed double century at Headingley as evidence of his strong temperament. "I don't think so (Incident with Crawley affecting Gill's batting). That incident was something Gill felt very strongly about and he made his feelings clear. But I don't think it affected his batting at all. He's a top-class player, and his temperament and skill level have been on display throughout the series. He played superbly at Headingley, and I don't think the incident at Lord's had an impact on him," the former batter said.

IND vs ENG: 'Not picking Kuldeep Yadav has hurt India; you can't expect him to score 100 runs'
Kuldeep Yadav (Getty Images) India's premier left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has remained on the bench for the first three matches of the five-Test series in England. As the fourth Test at Old Trafford draws closer, Kuldeep's childhood coach Kapil Dev Pandey feels the time has come for the spinner to get his due. Pandey voiced his belief in Kuldeep's form and readiness, asserting that the spinner can make an impact if given a chance. With India trailing 1-2 in the series — following a loss at Lord's, a thrilling win at Edgbaston, and a defeat at Headingley — pressure is mounting on the visitors to opt for a more balanced bowling attack. Pandey believes Kuldeep could be the missing piece. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'Kuldeep not playing doesn't seem to hold much value in the current context, because Team India has been playing well. In the third Test, many expected him to feature, but the fast bowlers did the job and picked up wickets,' he told IANS. Still, Pandey pointed out that Kuldeep is possibly in the best phase of his career right now. 'Kuldeep Yadav is in top form right now. He was lethal during the ODI World Cup and bowled brilliantly throughout the tournament. Not playing him at the right moments has cost India heavily. In the recent matches, it's the batters who have failed, not the bowlers.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like As AI agents gain autonomy, trust becomes the new currency. Poll Should Kuldeep Yadav be included in the playing XI for the fourth Test? Yes, he deserves a chance No, stick with the current bowlers 'You can't expect someone like Kuldeep or even Bumrah to score 100 runs — that would be unrealistic.' Kuldeep, who made his Test debut in March 2017, has featured in just 13 matches so far despite performing consistently when given opportunities. His coach, however, is confident that the 29-year-old remains focused and prepared. TOI Sports reporter attacked in London: After Lord's Test, reporter faces 'scariest moment of his life' With Old Trafford known to assist spinners, particularly in the latter half of the match, Kuldeep's variety could offer India better control in the middle overs — an area that has proved challenging in the series so far. Commenting on India's bowling composition, Pandey said the pacers have done well but leaving out Kuldeep has been a missed opportunity. IND vs ENG: Team India's plan, practice schedule and weather forecast in Manchester 'I've spoken to Kuldeep recently, and I told him to stay fit and be ready to deliver whenever given a chance. All we can do is hope — the final decision lies with the coach and the captain. But there's no doubt that Kuldeep is currently one of the finest and most senior spinners in the country. 'Yes, his morale is high, but deep down he must also be wondering when he'll get his chance — after all, he's only human,' Pandey said. 'He can be a crucial asset for Team India in Manchester. I spoke to him; he's focused.' As India aim to bounce back in the fourth Test, calls for Kuldeep Yadav's inclusion are growing stronger — and Manchester might finally mark his return to red-ball cricket.
