Chris Brown Denied Bail In United Kingdom After Assault Arrest
Chris Brown has found himself in a sticky situation overseas. The 36-year-old was recently denied bail after being arrested in the United Kingdom in connection with an alleged 2023 assault. Brown was arrested on Thursday (May 15) for allegedly assaulting music producer Abe Diaw and causing grievous bodily harm with intent back in February 2023. He has been accused of attacking Diaw with a bottle of tequila multiple times, then chasing after him and stomping on his head while he was on the ground. Authorities attempted to litigate the situation around the time it happened, but Brown had already left the United Kingdom. Breezy will reportedly remain in custody until June 13, upon which he must enter a plea and attend a trial preparation hearing, Sky News reports. This all presents a major conflict for the Grammy winner, as his tour is set to begin on June 8 in the Netherlands, and he has a show on June 15 in Manchester. 'The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial,' CPS London North's deputy chief crown prosecutor Adele Kelly said. 'It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.' District Judge Joanne Hirst stated that Brown's alleged misconduct was 'too serious' to be handled in her court, and sent the case to London's Southwark Crown Court. This is an especially troubling situation as Chris Brown is just five years into being able to perform overseas again. He was initially banned for a decade after assaulting Rihanna in 2010, but the ban was lifted in 2020. Brown has had a strong year musically, between sold-out shows all over the world and winning Best R&B Album at this past Grammys for 11:11 (Deluxe). Greater Manchester Police has issued a statement after singer Chris Brown, 36, was arrested while staying at a five-star hotel in Manchester. The 'Beautiful People' singer was arrested at 2am this morning (May 15) during his stay at The Lowry Hotel over an alleged bottle attack that took place two years ago, the Mirror has reported. It was reported that the cause for arrest was due to suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm to music producer Abe Diaw at Tape nightclub. Chris arrived into Manchester on Wednesday (14th May) afternoon by private jet, landing at Manchester Airport. In a statement, The Met told The Sun: '"A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. "He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit." The bottle incident allegedly occurred in a nightclub in London in 2023. In October 2023, music producer Abe Diaw claimed he was assaulted by Chris Brown in a lawsuit. The court documents alleged he suffered "severe and lasting injuries" after being beaten "over the head." Chris Brown has 10 UK tour dates planned in the near future, but with the investigation taking place his Breezy Bowl XX tour could be in jeopardy. It was set to be a celebration of his career spanning 20 years, with him booking the Co-Op live for shows on June 15 and 16 this summer. The singer had other dates booked in Cardiff, London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Dublin. He announced the tour in March and took to his Instagram as he wrote: "CELEBRATING 20 years of CB. So excited to be able to share this moment with the world and my amazing fans. "I CANT WAIT TO SEE ALL YALLS BEAUTIFUL FACES. IMA TAKE YALL THREW THESE ERAS BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY GIVE YALL MY HEART AND SOUL." This tour was set to follow his string of concerts that came after his 11:11 album, in which he generated a $82.3 million (£64 million) from ticket sales.
