Best season in DCA history ends at state tournament
LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Danville Christian Academy boys basketball team made program history this year, winning the 12th Region championship and making the state tournament for the first time. Danville Christian preparing for its first Sweet 16 appearance The Warriors' historic season ended on Wednesday night in the first round of the KHSAA Sweet 16, falling to South Oldham 67-44 at Rupp Arena. 'Obviously right now it hurts a lot. And we're all pretty disappointed because we thought we could make some noise in this tournament, but we didn't and we just need to look back and remember all the great things God has done for us this year and how he's blessed us, and it's been the best year in DCA history,' senior guard Titus Boyd said after the loss. DCA jumped out to a 13-12 lead after the 1st quarter, but the Dragons started breathing fire in the 2nd, knocking down eight three-pointers and tallying a 26-7 advantage on the scoreboard. The 7-footer combination of Geu Leek Ateny (14 points) and Lual Ayiei (10 points) were a daunting task for any team to face on the court, and were all over the court in this game as well. Boyd added 10 points for DCA. North Laurel beats bitter rival South Laurel in 13th Region championship
CORBIN, Ky. (FOX 56) — Only one high school basketball team from each region can make the Sweet 16 state tournament, knocking out region rivals on the way to punching their tickets to Rupp Arena. Central Kentucky high school basketball highlights, scores: Mar. 7 North Laurel took it a step further by beating its bitter rival South Laurel in the 13th Region championship game, 49-44 in overtime on Monday night at The Corbin Arena. The Jaguars lost to the Cardinals in both regular season matchups, but got revenge in a big way to advance to state and sending its county rivals home. Two double-overtime games open boys 12th region tournament In the 12th Region semifinals, Mercer County beat Pulaski County 53-49 and Danville Christian took down Southwestern 47-46 to set the stage for Tuesday night's region championship game.
