2025 Asia Cup: Player Mistakes Led To Failure To Win Doubles Gold

KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's failure to win the doubles gold at the 2025 Asia Cup Sepak Takraw Championship yesterday has boiled down to players making mistakes at critical moments. Beyond according blame, Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association (PSM) president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan, who in analysis was of that opinion, declared that his team would fix the delicate problem before the King's Cup in July. "If you ask me, the teams in this doubles event are very evenly balanced and whoever makes a mistake will pay a high price. We have seen how small mistakes can change the direction of the entire match. bootstrap slideshow "However, we admit that there is still a lot of room for improvement. Some mistakes should not have happened during key moments," he told Bernama yesterday. Malaysia's desire to win the doubles title following its first success in the quadrant event played earlier at the 2025 Asia Cup was dashed when they lost 1-2 to traditional takraw arch-rivals Thailand in the final yesterday. Asked to comment on the triumphant national quadrant squad, Sumali had effusive praise for the players who successfully delivered the country's first gold medal at the competition. "I am happy with the players' delivery in the men's quadrant. Since the beginning, I have focused on that and it seems that it has paid off. "The quadrant is an event we have never seriously participated in before and I am glad that we managed to emerge as champions," he said. Yesterday, the national quadrant squad made history by becoming champions after defeating Japan 2-0 for the country's first gold at the 2025 Asia Cup at the packed Titiwangsa Stadium.

When Will IPL 2025 Resume?

Last Updated: BCCI can consider three possible windows to host the remaining matches of IPL 2025, depending on the de-escalation of the India-Pakistan conflict. IPL 2025 has been indefinitely suspended due to cross-border war-like tensions between India and Pakistan. Although the countries are significantly away from a full-fledged war, shelling in border states, preparatory blackouts in several cities, and certain escalatory moves have caused unprecedented tensions. This is not the first time that the tournament hasn't gone on as planned. In 2009, the season was completely moved to South Africa due to its clash with the General Elections in India. In 2014, due to the same reason, the first half of the tournament was held in the UAE, before coming back to India. In 2020, it was postponed before the first match and hosted by the UAE in September-November, whereas the 2021 season had to be suspended mid-way due to bio-bubble breaches and was resumed later in the UAE. Similarly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would certainly be working on plans to find a window to complete this season. Twelve league matches and four knockout games are left to be played, but the details of the resumption plan would become clear only after the conflict de-escalates. As of now, there seem to be three clear windows for it: #3 Late May and June In the unlikely scenario that the conflict de-escalates in the coming days and peace prevails between the two countries soon, the IPL could resume in May itself. It'll be difficult to manage the logistical needs, but the stadiums, at the very least, would be prepared to host the games. There's a small window between the original final of the IPL on May 25 and the first Test between India and England on June 20. If confidence in security can be restored, the BCCI could host multiple double-headers to finish the season in less than a couple of weeks. According to a report in The Times of India, the BCCI might be open to the possibility of using a window earlier reserved for the men's tour of Bangladesh and the 2025 Asia Cup for IPL 2025. As of now, the final Test against England is to be held from July 31 to August 4 and India is then scheduled to tour Bangladesh between August 17 and 23 for three ODIs. However, the latter series was already under clouds of doubt well before the ongoing tensions, due to strained relations between India and Bangladesh. The second half of August could be a comfortable window for the IPL. A couple of issues in that could be monsoons in India and the possible unavailability of some star players due to clashes with other T20 leagues and international series around the world. #1 September Window This could be another good option for the BCCI to consider. The IPL has been previously held in September-November windows due to various reasons and as of now, India's international calendar has a space in this month. The BCCI was supposed to host the Asia Cup this month, but, like the tour of Bangladesh, that could be indefinitely postponed due to the relations between the neighboring countries. In such a scenario, the BCCI would be able to host the remaining games in India or in another country, like the UAE or South Africa, without forcing too many double headers as well. Suspended IPL 2025 Can Resume After India's Tour Of England: Report

Last Updated: The IPL 2025 season, suspended due to security concerns, may resume after India's five-Test tour of England. The BCCI might use the window reserved for the Bangladesh tour. The IPL 2025 season, which has been suspended mid-way due to security concerns, can reportedly resume after India's five-Test tour of England. According to a report in The Times of India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might be open to the possibility of using a window earlier reserved for the men's tour of Bangladesh and the 2025 Asia Cup to complete the remaining matches of the tournament. The England Test series will begin on June 20, with the final Test to be held from July 31 to August 4. India is scheduled to tour Bangladesh between August 17 and 23 for three ODIs, though that tour was already under the scanner well before the ongoing tensions, due to strained relations between India and Bangladesh. Twelve league matches and four knockout games are left to be played in the season. First Published:

Oman lift AHF Cup for the first time

Muscat: Oman's national hockey team made history on Sunday when it lifted the 2025 Men's AHF Cup, organised by the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF), for the first time. In a thrilling final played in Jakarta, Indonesia, Oman edged past Chinese Taipei 4-3 to stamp their authority in the event in style. The win marked a milestone in the country's sporting history and served as a double delight, as Oman had earlier qualified for the upcoming 2025 Asia Cup, which will be held in India later this year. The 2025 Men's AHF Cup, a quadrennial tournament held since 1997, saw the participation of ten national teams. For Oman, coached by former Oman skipper Mohammed Hubais, the win is a testament of hard work put in by the boys and the coaching staff along with the support of the Oman Hockey Association (OHA). Previously, Oman had come close to victory on four occasions, finishing as the runner-up in 1997, 2008, 2012, and 2022. Barring the first edition in 1997, when Oman lost to hosts Hong Kong, the other three occasions, Oman had lost to Bangladesh in the respective finals. The Men in Red, however, got the better of their regular nemesis in the semi-final, winning 5-4. The final against Chinese Taipei was an intense and action-packed affair. Chinese Taipei took the lead early in the match when Wei Cheng-Zi scored in the 4th minute, capitalising on a fast-paced counterattack. However, Oman quickly equalised in the 12th minute, with Rashad Al Fazari scoring from a penalty corner to bring the score to 1–1 by the end of the first quarter. Oman started to dominate possession in the second quarter, and Shafi Al Shafari gave the team a 2–1 lead in the 22nd minute. Five minutes later, Elias Al Noufali extended the advantage to 3–1 with a well-placed goal. Despite some defensive lapses, Oman maintained their edge, and although Chinese Taipei pulled one back with a goal from Tsung-Yu Hsieh, Oman ended the second quarter with a 3–2 lead. In the third quarter, Chinese Taipei equalised again through Huang Lin-Yu in the 43rd minute, but Oman did not let the momentum slip. In the 45th minute, Ayman Madheet scored a crucial fourth goal, giving Oman the lead once more. The final quarter was a tense battle, but Oman's defence held firm, and the team successfully repelled repeated attacks from Chinese Taipei. Oman's performance in Jakarta was a showcase of resilience, discipline, and tactical brilliance, with each player contributing to the collective success. Throughout the tournament, Oman displayed their superiority, staying unbeaten in their group-stage matches. They were placed in Group A alongside Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Uzbekistan, and Singapore. Oman began their campaign with a 3-1 win over Singapore and then defeated Hong Kong by a similar scoreline. They beat Uzbekistan 4-2 and drew with Chinese Taipei 4-4 in their concluding league match. Omani-led coaching staff A notable aspect of the latest title victory is the fact that Oman's coaching team is an all-Omani setup. Led by former national team captain Hubais, this is a maiden and major success for the all-Omani technical team. The success has proven that local leadership and expertise can guide the team to encouraging results. Hubais expressed immense pride and satisfaction with the team's performance, highlighting the dedication of his staff and players. 'Winning the AHF Cup for the first time in the history is a moment of great pride for every Omani. This achievement carries even greater significance thanks to the pure national leadership of both the technical and administrative staff, who demonstrated their competence and ability to achieve continental success,' Hubais said. The Men's AHF Cup 2025 saw intense action in the classification matches as teams fought for their final rankings. Bangladesh took the bronze with a 3-0 win over Kazakhstan. In the 5th/6th place playoff, Hong Kong edged out Uzbekistan with a narrow 4-3 victory while Sri Lanka wrapped up their tournament with a 6-4 win over Thailand in the 7th/8th place playoff. Meanwhile, Indonesia triumphed 5-3 over Singapore in the battle for 9th place.

2025 Asia Cup: PSM Confident National Squad Can Reach All Four Finals

KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association (PSM) is highly confident that the national squad has the right formula to advance to the finals in all four events contested at the 2025 Asia Cup following the official draw in a ceremony held at the World Trade Centre (WTC) here today. PSM president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan emphasised that special focus is being given to the regu and doubles events, in which Malaysia were crowned world champion when hosting the 2024 World Cup last May. "Our target is definitely to reach all four finals. As the host, playing on home ground in the same stadium, the goal is to secure gold medals in front of our own supporters," he said today.
