World Boxing to introduce gender tests for all boxers, targets Imane Khelif
Algeria's Imane Khelif at 2024 Olympics (Image via AP /Ariana Cubillos, File) World Boxing announced on Friday it will introduce mandatory gender testing to determine the eligibility of male and female athletes wanting to take part in its competitions. The international federation said it was introducing the policy after the outcry surrounding boxers including women's welterweight gold medallist Imane Khelif of Algeria at the Paris Olympics last year. World Boxing will organize the boxing competition at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after being granted provisional recognition by the International Olympic Committee. World Boxing said it had informed the Algerian Boxing Federation that Imane Khelif would have to undergo the test if she wanted to compete at the Eindhoven Box Cup in the Netherlands on June 5-10. "World Boxing has written to the Algerian Boxing Federation to inform it that Imane Khelif will not be allowed to participate in the female category at the Eindhoven Box Cup or any World Boxing event until Imane Khelif undergoes sex testing," it said in a statement. Under the new policy, all athletes over 18 that want to participate in a World Boxing owned or sanctioned competition will need to undergo a PCR, or polymerase chain reaction genetic test, to determine what sex they were at birth and their eligibility to compete. Shubman Gill story: From a remote village near the border to India's Test captain The PCR test is a laboratory technique used to detect specific genetic material, in this case the SRY gene, that reveals the presence of the Y chromosome, which is an indicator of biological sex. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No dark spots, 10 years younger! Khelif said in March: "For me, I see myself as a girl, just like any other girl. I was born a girl, raised as a girl, and have lived my entire life as one." Yes, it's necessary for fair competition No, it infringes on athletes' rights The 26-year-old is targeting a second gold medal at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles after her triumph in Paris. Her success, along with that of Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting, sparked a raging gender eligibility debate, with high-profile figures such as US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk weighing in. Khelif and Lin were disqualified from the International Boxing Association's 2023 world championships after the organization, the long-standing governing body of amateur boxing, said they had failed gender eligibility tests. The IOC has severed links with the IBA over financial, governance and ethical concerns. The IBA is led by the Kremlin-linked Russian Umar Kremlev. Last month the IOC provisionally recognized World Boxing as the body to oversee the sport at future Games.

Sean McVay excited about NFL talent in Olympic flag football and calls it a rare chance (Image Source: Getty Images) The Olympics will be in Los Angeles in 2028. Flag football will be played for the first time. The Los Angeles Rams head coach, Sean McVay spoke in person with media members on Thursday, 29 May. He said he has come around to the idea of NFL players being on the Olympic team. The event took place at the Los Angeles Rams' training site in Thousand Oaks, California. Sean McVay shared his thoughts during a press meeting. He seemed excited about what the future could bring. Sean McVay says NFL players should get a chance to join Team USA On May 29, 2025, Sean McVay told the media he is a fan of NFL players playing Olympic flag football. I think it would be great if athletes could aspire to represent Team USA in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.' Sean McVay said, 'I think it's great.' He added that 2028 feels far away but players should have the choice. 'If that's something that players say they want to do, then I think it's a really cool experience,' Sean McVay said. He shared that each NFL team may be allowed to send one player. He believes it should be up to the players. Sean McVay said he does not know all the flag football rules but still supports the plan. He also talked about Justin Jefferson, a wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings. Sean McVay said Justin Jefferson sounded excited about the Olympics. That excitement, he said, shows this is a special chance. In October 2023, flag football was added to the 2028 Games by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Matthew Stafford says he might not play but is ready to coach At the same event, Matthew Stafford, quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, was asked if he would join the Olympic team. He laughed and said, 'Sure. I mean, nobody's going to want me to, but yeah, sure. It'd be fun. I'll coach.' Mathew Stafford may not be playing in 2028. But he showed interest in helping the team. This raises new questions. Will NFL players follow coaches from flag football? Or will they need help from well-known NFL coaches? Paralympic champion Pritchard sets world record at Euros
Great Britain's Paralympic champion Benjamin Pritchard set a world record on day one of the European Rowing Championships in Plovdiv. Pritchard, 33, won gold in Paris in the PR1 men's single sculls in a time of nine minutes 3.84 seconds but smashed that on Thursday to reach the final of the event in Bulgaria. The Welshman's new world record of 8:47.88 beat Ukrainian Roman Polianskyi's previous best of 8.50.38. Pritchard said his performance was part of a "performance reset" for the LA 2028 Games cycle. "We've got a mantra back at British Rowing, where once the 2024 season was done, it was back to zero," he said. "Yes, I'm the Paralympic champion, but this is a whole new cycle. You don't know what anyone else has done in the winter, you don't know what new athletes are coming through, so you have to keep up the training to keep moving on. "I still feel like I'm early in my season preparations, but to go out there and get that world best time, it shows that the hard work that I'm doing - juggling being an athlete, trying to do some work in the city and also to be a dad - it shows that it's worth it." Olympic champion Lauren Henry also set a British record in the women's single sculls Henry, who won gold in Paris last year as part of the quadruple sculls, recorded the third fastest time ever to win in 7:09.76. The Englishwoman will race in the semi-final on Friday. The 23-year-old said: "It's an exciting result for my first senior international single race. I'm so happy to execute my plan. "I've been focused this year on coming in and making myself a better and hopefully a more competitive athlete."

Miami Dolphins (past and present) we'd love to see in Summer Olympics flag football
NFL owners are about to huddle to make an important decision: whether to allow active players to participate in flag football in the 2028 Summer Olympics. We know flag football is becoming an Olympic sport. We know the NFL is solidly behind the drive, thinking it will do nothing but expand interest in football globally, across a wider variety of demographics. Advertisement We also know some players — including the very vocal Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill — say they'd love to participate. All that's left to sort out is whether owners are willing to risk players getting injured in the process. It's not so much a contact risk as it is a risk in changing direction or suffering soft-tissue ailments. Owners will hold their spring meeting in Minneapolis on May 20-21 to vote on whether to allow no more than one player from each team to participate on a particular national team, in addition to each team's designated international player. The 2028 Games will run July 14-30, so the overlap with training camp would be minimal. Advertisement The resolution before owners: "The membership believes that participation by NFL players in flag football during the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California will support such growth and advance several league interests, including increasing fan and public interest in flag football, expanding the global reach of the NFL.' Did somebody say this could lead to even more revenue for the NFL? Is that supposed to motivate owners to vote yes (wink, wink)? With all this in mind, let's take a look at some Dolphins, past and present, we'd like to see in flag football. See if it matches your wish list: Tyreek Hill thought Indianapolis Colts' NFL schedule video poking fun at him was funny Active Miami Dolphins we'd like to see in flag football at the Summer Olympics WR Tyreek Hill Maybe after he races Noah Lyles, he can set his sights set on the Olympics. He'd be a natural. Advertisement RB De'Von Achane Another obvious pick. Combination of quickness and agility. Flip it to him and watch him go. CB Ethan Bonner There's some thought he might actually be the fastest guy on the team. Let's see it. OT Patrick Paul He's listed at 6-feet-7, 332, but if you stand next to him you'd swear he's bigger than that. What does that have to do with flag football? Picture him barreling toward guys half his size, and whether they'd really care to take a swipe at his flags. RB Jaylen Wright We only got a taste of his shiftiness in his rookie year of 2024. This might be the perfect setting for him. WR Anthony Schwartz Practice squad receiver also has a claim to being fastest at the facility. Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert (31) spikes the ball after scoring a touchdown past New York Jets safety Tony Adams (22) during the first half of an NFL game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Dec. 17, 2023. WR Mark Duper Well, duh. RB Raheem Mostert See Duper. (Career rushing average: 5.0.) WR Jakeem Grant Just ask him. QB David Woodley They say QBs who can escape pressure are at a premium in this sport. That was Woodley's game.
