Why Frank Sinatra was offered Bruce Willis' part in ‘Die Hard'
Fans almost saw Frank Sinatra do it, his way. Although fans know Bruce Willis for playing the iconic role of John McClane in the 1988 action/thriller 'Die Hard,' it turns out that 20th Century Studios was contractually obligated to offer a certain A-list singer the role first. 'Die Hard' was adapted from the 1979 novel 'Nothing Lasts Forever,' written by former detective Roderick Thorp, and was a sequel to his first book, 'The Detective.' Advertisement Since the movie studio had the rights to the original book and its sequel before they were written for the big screen, they had to ask Sinatra first. He was 70 at the time and declined the part. 'Die Hard' also starred Alan Rickman, Bonnie Bedelia, Reginald VelJohnson, and William Atherton. Prior to landing the part of John McClane, Willis, 70, was only known for starring in the comedy series, 'Moonlighting,' opposite Cybill Shepherd. 6 Bruce Willis in the film 'Die Hard with a Vengeance.' ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection Advertisement The action star went on to reprise his role in all five 'Die Hard Films,' including: 'Die Hard 2' (1990), 'Die Hard with a Vengeance' (1995), 'Live Free or Die Hard' (2007), and the final installment, 'A Good Day to Die Hard' in 2013. In March, in honor of Willis' 70th birthday, his 'Die Hard with a Vengeance' costar Samuel L. Jackson revealed the advice he received from him on set. 'He told me, 'Hopefully you'll be able to find a character that, when you make bad movies and they don't make any money, you can always go back to this character everybody loves,'' Jackson, 76, told Vanity Fair at the time. 'He said, 'Arnold's got 'Terminator.' Sylvester's got 'Rocky, Rambo.' I've got John McClane.' I'm like, 'Oh, okay.' And it didn't occur to me until I got that Nick Fury role—and I had a nine-picture deal to be Nick Fury—that, Oh, I'm doing what Bruce said. I've got this character now.' 6 Frank Sinatra and his wife Ava Gardner in 1956. 'I think that he's basically underrated because he was a big box-office star. So that immediately works against you,' she explained. 'I think, in his mind, he always wanted to be an actor and to do interesting work. That's why becoming famous for such a huge, boffo movie was not expected from him.' 'But once he was there, it was kind of like, you know, 'I'm an actor,'' Bedelia continued. 'And I don't think he saw, in terms of the work, a lot of difference between them. One was not more important than the other, because he was getting to work with interesting directors, with interesting scripts.' 6 Frank Sinatra performing. 'I never expected to become this famous,' he said in 1990. 'I wanted to be successful as an actor; I never equated that [with being] famous and having your life story in every newspaper in the country. I just never thought that far ahead. And I don't know who does.'

‘The Simpsons' finally reveal who will voice Milhouse character next
There's a new voice in Springfield. After voice actor Pamela Hayden retired in November after 35 years on 'The Simpsons,' singer Kelly Macleod will be taking over the one and only blue-haired Milhouse Van Houten. The singer is set to make her debut during Sunday's season finale 'Estranger Things,' Entertainment Weekly reports. 6 Bart Simpson (voice: Nancy Cartwright), Milhouse Van Houten (voice: Pamela Hayden), Lisa Simpson (voice: Yeardley Smith) on 'The Simpsons.' ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection The episode's official synopsis reads: 'When Bart & Lisa stop watching Itchy & Scratchy together, Marge fears that they'll start to drift apart… but she has no idea how bad things are about to get!' Despite Milhouse only having one line in the episode, she is no stranger to the long running sitcom. In 2022, Macleod appeared on 'The Simpsons' during Season 33, episode 15 titled 'Bart the Cool Kid.' 6 Milhouse Van Houten and Bart Simpson. ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection 6 Milhouse Van Houten, voiced by Pamela Hayden. ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection In the episode — which also starred The Weeknd and Michael Rapaport — the musician sang the song 'Two Badges, One Mind.' Macleod's music career kicked off in the rock band Private Life, with the group's 1990 song 'Touch Me' being featured in two films. The single was on the soundtrack of both 1992's 'Wayne's World' and 1990's 'Gremlins 2: The New Batch.' Additionally, she's performed with The Sweet Potatoes band for a decade, and released her first solo album 'Wide Open' in 2021. 6 Kelly Breznik Macleod. Macleod also has an acting credit, appearing in the 2009 short film 'Slice of Pie.' Hayden, 71, meanwhile announced she was retiring from the Fox sitcom with a touching tribute to her character. 'It's been an honor and a joy to have worked on such a funny, witty, and groundbreaking show, and to give voice to Milhouse (and Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, Janey, Malibu Stacy, and many others),' she shared at the time. 6 Kelly Breznik Macleod poses on Instagram. 'Here's to everyone who made this terrific ride I've been on possible,' Hayden continued. 'P.S. I'll always have a special place in my heart for that blue-haired 10-year-old boy with glasses.' 'The Simpsons' has run for 36 seasons since its 1989 debut. 'How many actors can say they've worked on a show for 35 years straight?' Hayden told Variety in November. 'That alone is amazing. But it was time for me to devote my time to other creative endeavors that I have, like filmmaking. It was a tough decision, but I feel like it was the right one.' 6 Pamela Hayden attends Kash Hovey And Friends At Film Fest LA At LA Live 2023 at Regal LA Live on November 18, 2023 in Los Angeles, California. Prior to 'The Simpsons,' she worked on 'Hey Arnold,' 'Pinky and the Brain,' 'The New Batman Adventures' and 'Recess.' 'It's just not like anything I've ever worked on,' Hayden gushed about the series. 'It's a once-in-a-lifetime job on a once-in-a-lifetime show. But being an actor, I think you're kind of used to taking risks. That's the kind of person I am. I'm not about playing things safe. And there were other things I wanted to do. I think you throw it against the wall and see what sticks.'
