Matthew Lawerence wants to resurrect Robin Williams' voice with AI
Matthew Lawrence wants to resurrect Robin Williams with a modern-day twist. Lawrence, 45, told Entertainment Weekly at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend that he wants his 'Mrs. Doubtfire' co-star — who died by suicide at age 63 in 2014 — to become the new 'voice of AI.' 'I would love — now, obviously, with the respect and with the okay from his family — but I would love to do something really special with his voice because I know for a generation, that voice is just so iconic,' Lawrence said. Advertisement The idea, according to Lawrence, recently came to him when he was watching an old television commercial with Williams' voice. 9 Robin Williams, Matthew Lawrence, Mara Wilson, Lisa Jakub in 'Mrs. Doubtfire.' ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection 'It's kinda like this very contemporary, modern, almost sort of foreshadowing of what's going on commercial that he did, where he did this computerized voiceover,' Lawrence explained. 'And it always stuck with me.' 'And then, during his passing, with the AI coming out, I'm like, 'Man, he's gotta be the voice of A.I. He's gotta be the voice in something,'' the 'Boy Meets World' star continued. 'So yeah, I would love to do that.' Getty Images Advertisement During the SAG-AFTRA strike in Oct. 2023, Williams' daughter, Zelda Williams, put out a statement slamming the use of AI to recreate the late comedian. 'I am not an impartial voice in SAG's fight against AI,' Zelda, 35, wrote on social media. 'I've witnessed for YEARS how many people want to train these models to create/recreate actors who cannot consent, like Dad.' 9 Zelda and Robin Williams at the 'Happy Feet Two' premiere in 2011. Getty Images 'I've already heard AI used to get his 'voice' to say whatever people want and while I find it personally disturbing, the ramifications go far beyond my own feelings,' Zelda continued. 'Living actors deserve a chance to create characters with their choices, to voice cartoons, to put their HUMAN effort and time into the pursuit of performance.' Lawrence was a preteen when he played Williams' son, Chris Hillard, in 1993's 'Mrs. Doubtfire.' At the first annual '90s Con in 2022, Lawrence recalled how Williams — who struggled with substance abuse before his death — warned him to 'stay away' from drugs while they were shooting the film together. 9 Matthew Lawrence, Lisa Jakub, Robin Williams, Mara Wilson, Sally Field in 'Mrs. Doubtfire.' 20th Century Fox Licensing/Merchandising / Everett Collection '[Williams] was very serious. He was like, 'You know when you come to my trailer and you see me like that?'' Lawrence shared. 'He's like, 'That's the reason why. And now I'm fighting for the rest of my life because I spent 10 years doing something very stupid every day. Do not do it.' I stayed away from it because of him.' WireImage In April, Lawrence told EW that the 'Jumaji' star also gave him two important life lessons: the 'type of compassion you need to have for people' and how you 'don't judge until you walk in someone else's shoes.' 'He really quantified what it was to be a real artist for me in the sense that he was definitely,' Lawrence said, 'and I worked with some great people, and he was definitely the most brilliant artist I've ever worked with.'

Ellen DeGeneres ‘would love' to host another talk show years after toxic workplace allegations
Ellen DeGeneres is not ruling out the possibility of another talk show in her future. During a live conversation with broadcaster Richard Bacon on Sunday, the 67-year-old former talk show host shared that she misses so many things about hosting her own show, but doesn't think that format would work in today's world. Advertisement 'I mean, I wish it did, because I would do the same thing here,' she told Bacon, per the BBC. 'I would love to do that again, but I just feel like people are watching on their phones, or people aren't really paying attention as much to televisions, because we're so inundated with information and entertainment.' Since moving to England in November 2024, DeGeneres has taken her time in deciding on her next career move, admitting she is making that move 'very carefully.' While she doesn't know what is next for her, she says, 'I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens, but I'm a little bit bored.' The comedian hosted 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' for 19 seasons from 2003 to 2022. The show came to an end two years after allegations of a toxic work environment came to light in July 2020. 4 Ellen DeGeneres shared that she misses so many things about hosting her own show, but doesn't think that format would work in today's world. Advertisement DeGeneres addressed the allegations during the opening monologue on the first episode of her 18th season. In the monologue, the comedian issued an on-air apology, in which she called herself 'a work in progress' before adding she is 'especially working on the impatience thing.' 'No matter what, any article that came up, it was like, 'She's mean,' and it's like, how do I deal with this without sounding like a victim or 'poor me' or complaining? But I wanted to address it,' she said in her conversation with Bacon. 'It's as simple as, I'm a direct person, and I'm very blunt, and I guess sometimes that means that… I'm mean?' She went on to say that she finds it 'hurtful' that she probably can't 'say anything that's ever going to get rid of…or dispel' the rumors that she is mean, and that she 'hate[s] that people think that.' 4 'I mean, I wish it did, because I would do the same thing here,' DeGeneres said. 'I would love to do that again, but I just feel like people are watching on their phones, or people aren't really paying attention as much to televisions, because we're so inundated with information and entertainment.' ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection Advertisement 4 Since moving to England in November 2024, DeGeneres (right) has taken her time in deciding on her next career move, admitting she is making that move 'very carefully.' BACKGRID Looking back, she added that it was 'certainly an unpleasant way to end' her talk show. When asked about her recent move to the English countryside, she confirmed it was influenced by President Donald Trump winning the election. She told Bacon she and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, originally planned to split their time between England and the United States, but changed their minds following the election. Advertisement 4 The comedian hosted 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' for 19 seasons from 2003 to 2022. 'We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in,'' she said. 'And we're like, 'We're staying here.'' Since moving to England, the comedian and de Rossi have noticed 'everything here is just better,' highlighting the beauty of the city, 'the way animals are treated,' and the overall 'simpler way of life.' 'We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life,' she explained. 'We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.'

Anne Hathaway heads to work on ‘Devil Wears Prada 2' — in a cerulean blue sweater
All right everyone, gird your loins! The 'Devil Wears Prada' sequel is officially underway — and Anne Hathaway is back on set. In a Monday TikTok video, the Oscar winner, 42, is seen brushing her teeth with an electric toothbrush as she preps for day one of filming. The clip is seemingly a nod to her character's getting-ready scene in the 2006 original, where she used a manual brush before her interview at Runway magazine. 6 Hathaway preps for day one of filming 'The Devil Wears Prada 2.' Anne Hathaway/TikTok 'Heading to werk #dwp2,' she captioned her post. It was, however, Hathaway's wardrobe that sent fans into a frenzy. In true Andrea Sachs sartorial splendor, the 'Princess Diaries' star wore a cerulean blue sweater. In the first movie, Runway magazine editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, famously chastises Andy for the look before educating her on the history of the item's color. 6 Hathaway as Andy Sachs in 'The Devil Wears Prada' wearing the iconic cerulean blue sweater. 'It's not just blue, it's not turquoise, it's not lapis. It's actually cerulean ✨,' one user commented, referring to Hathaway's sweater. 'Okay, the cerulean blue sweater — you know exactly what you're doing,' another wrote. 'EVERYBODY, STAY CALM — IT'S HAPPENING,' a third commenter said. 6 Hathaway and Stanley Tucci in 'The Devil Wears Prada.' ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection In the original film, Andy accidentally lets a chuckle slip as Miranda and the Runway magazine staff discuss outfits ahead of a photoshoot. 'Oh. OK. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you,' Miranda says. 'You go to your closet and you select, I don't know, that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back.' 'But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue. It's not turquoise. It's not lapis. It's actually cerulean,' she continues, listing various designers who have used the color in their collections. 6 Hathaway as Andy Sachs in the 2006 original, 'The Devil Wears Prada.' 'And then it filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic, casual corner where you no doubt fished it out of some clearance bin,' Miranda goes on. 'However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs. And it's sort of comical how you think that you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you're wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room.' Hathaway further teased the start of filming with an Instagram post, evoking Andy in a pinstripe vest and trouser set. 6 Hathaway further teased the start of filming on Instagram. Darth Vader's lightsaber from original Star Wars trilogy to be auctioned off — expected to rake in up to $3 million
May the force — and fortunes — be with you. The lightsaber used by Darth Vader during the latter two films of the original 'Star Wars' trilogy will be auctioned off alongside a slew of other memorabilia from the franchise and is expected to rake in millions, according to a report. The hilt of the primary dueling lightsaber used by masked villian during 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return of the Jedi' will go on the market at Los Angeles' Propstore in September and is predicted to sell for anywhere between $1 million and $3 million. Advertisement 3 The lightsaber used by Darth Vader during the final two installments of the original trilogy will be auctioned off. Propstore The prop hilt is believed to be the first of its kind to go on the market, as no other lightsabers from the original trilogy ever went to private buyers. They were instead cycled through museums, with Luke Skywalker's lightsabe from 'The Empire Strikes Back' residing with Ripley's Believe It or Not. 'Surviving genuine lightsaber props from the original trilogy of films are exceedingly rare, and Propstore is honored to present this historic artifact in our September sale. It is a grail-level piece, worthy of the finest collections in the world,' Propstore COO Brandon Alinger told The Hollywood Reporter. Advertisement Starting in August, the prop will have its own press circuit from London to New York before finally parking in Beverly Hills, where it'll be sold to the highest bidder. Advertisement Propstore features a long lineup of other relics from classic franchises, including more from 'Star Wars' like gifts given to crew members after the films wrapped and a replica of the lightsaber used by Qui-Gon Jinn, the Jedi Master played by Liam Neeson, in the prequels. 3 The lightsaber will be brought to New York in August on a press circuit. AP Darth Vader's dueling lightsaber was held on-screen by the late David Prowse, the physical actor for the Sith Lord, and stunt double Bob Anderson. The fallen Jedi was voiced by the legendary James Earl Jones. Advertisement In 2022, the gun used by Han Solo, played by Ford, in 'A New Hope' sold for $1 million. It is only one of three surviving models from the trilogy. In June 2024, a toy figurine of bounty hunter Boba Fett from the 1970s sold for a staggering $525,000.

'When that whole thing first came out, I couldn't get my head around it. I didn't understand it,' the actor admitted.
