1 2 3 4 5 6 Dibrugarh: The 9th death anniversary of martyr Havildar Hangpan Dada, Ashok Chakra (Posthumous), was commemorated with solemn reverence at his memorial at Borduria village in Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday. The ceremony brought together senior military officials, govt dignitaries, and local citizens, who honoured the supreme sacrifice of the brave soldier who laid down his life defending the nation. Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding of Spear Corps, led the distinguished gathering that included MLA and adviser to the minister for environment & forests Wangling Lowangdong, deputy commissioner of Tirap Techu Aran, and SP Singjatla Singpho. Senior military officers, including Brigadier Sarabjeet Singh, Commander of 25 Sector Assam Rifles, Col Ankit Harjai, Commanding Officer of 44 Assam Rifles, Lamkhokam Lhoujem, Commandant of 36 Battalion CRPF, senior public leader Wangman Lowangcha, Gaon Buras (village headmen) and other local dignitaries were also present alongside Veer Nari Chasen Lowang Dada, the martyr's widow. His extraordinary act of valour and unwavering dedication to duty proved instrumental in foiling a major infiltration attempt and preventing enemy forces from creating disturbances in the sensitive border state. In recognition of his supreme sacrifice and gallantry, he was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra, India's highest peacetime military decoration, in August 2016. During the ceremony, Lt Gen Pendharkar personally interacted with the martyr's family, offering reassurance of the Army's and the nation's continued support. He also addressed ex-servicemen from Tirap and Longding districts, acknowledging their persistent commitment to national service. "The sacrifice of brave soldiers like Havildar Hangpan Dada serves as an eternal reminder of the price of freedom and security," Lt Gen Pendharkar said. MLA Wangling Lowangdong highlighted state govt's initiatives in honouring the martyr's memory. "We have taken pride in renaming the CM's Trophy to the Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy for both football and volleyball over the past eight years," Lowangdong said. The MLA made an appeal to the state administration, urging consideration for naming important institutions after the decorated soldier. "I appeal to the state govt to consider naming significant establishments — such as a Sainik School or other important institutions in the Capital Region, Itanagar — in honour of martyr Hangpan Dada," he said. The ceremony concluded with a poignant presentation narrating the life and heroic deeds of martyr Hangpan Dada.
