'Angel Reese Is Not Selling Out Arenas in Chicago': Caitlin Clark Book Author Gets Blunt
'Angel Reese Is Not Selling Out Arenas in Chicago': Caitlin Clark Book Author Gets Blunt originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In the wake of record-breaking attendance and escalating TV ratings midway through the WNBA's 2025 season, two of the league's brightest stars, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, find themselves at the center of a heated debate about who truly drives the business of women's basketball. This past weekend's WNBA All-Star festivities in Indiana drew an average of 2.2 million viewers for the game itself, down 36% from last year's 3.44 million when Clark took the court, but the Skills Challenge and 3-Point Contest still averaged 1.3 million viewers, a near 90% jump from 2024. League officials point to the spike in ancillary events as further proof of growing fan engagement, yet the nearly 1.24 million-viewer drop when Clark was sidelined underscores her outsized impact on viewership and ticket demand. On Monday, veteran sports journalist Christine Brennan joined "The Robin Lundberg Show" on YouTube to discuss her new biography "On Her Game: Caitlin Clark and the Revolution in Women's Sports." Mid-conversation, Brennan asserted that while Angel Reese is an "incredible rebounder" and "a powerful motor," she "is not selling out arenas in Chicago; Caitlin Clark is. Angel needs Caitlin to sell out. These are facts." Since being selected first overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, Clark has electrified arenas and airwaves alike. On the court, she set the WNBA single-season rookie record for points, assists and 3-pointers made, became the ninth rookie to be named an All-Star starter and was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week three times and Rookie of the Month four times. Off the court, Clark's impact has been equally seismic: her first season drew over half a million fans to Fever games, more than the combined total of several franchises, and her recent departure due to injury prompted a notable dip in attendance and TV viewership. Clark's burgeoning brand has also attracted major corporate backers. In a deal reportedly worth up to $28 million over eight years, per The Wall Street Journal, she became a cornerstone athlete for Nike's WNBA initiatives, a partnership that extends beyond footwear into collaborative marketing campaigns. She also holds endorsements with Wilson, State Farm, Gatorade, Bose and other national brands, underscoring her role as a new face of women's basketball at a time when the league is negotiating historic broadcast rights. Indiana Fever release Caitlin Clark injury report vs Phoenix Mercury
The Indiana Fever released their injury report for their Wednesday night contest against the Phoenix Mercury. As expected, it doesn't carry the news that Fever fans or Iowa fans were hoping for. Indiana star point guard Caitlin Clark has been ruled out against the Phoenix Mercury with a right groin injury per the Indy Star's Chloe Peterson. Clark's injury absence against the Mercury now makes it 14 regular season games that Clark has missed this season and 15 games overall, including the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final. This latest injury spell has now cost Clark five games. The 6-foot guard exited in the final minute of Indiana's 85-77 win over the Connecticut Sun on July 15 and hasn't played since. Clark's latest injury absence also included missing the 3-Point Contest and the WNBA All-Star Game in which she was one of the two team captains. It's been a season marred and derailed by injury ailments dating back to the preseason. Clark missed the Fever's opening preseason contest with a left leg injury. Then, a left quadriceps strain cost Clark five games from May 28-June 10. That was followed up by a left groin injury that sidelined Clark for four regular season games and the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final from June 26-July 5. The Indiana Fever released an official statement on Clark's injury status and on her recovery last Thursday, July 24. "Caitlin Clark underwent further medical evaluations earlier this week, which confirmed that no additional injuries or damage were discovered. "Clark will continue working with the medical team on her recovery and rehabilitation, with the priority on her long-term health and well-being. There is no timetable available for her return," the Fever's statement read. Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game on 36.7% field goal shooting and 27.9% 3-point accuracy. Lynx's Napheesa Collier makes bold Angel Reese ‘Team Pheebounds' declaration
The post Lynx's Napheesa Collier makes bold Angel Reese 'Team Pheebounds' declaration appeared first on ClutchPoints. Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier is a fan of Chicago Sky star Angel Reese. Collier is calling she and Reese a fun name, ahead of the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday night. Collier says the two players are 'Team Pheebounds.' Collier and Reese are both playing for Team Collier in the All-Star game. In a social media post, Collier appeared with Reese and complimented the Sky star. 'You are so aggressive, and so when you're like that it's impossible to stop,' Collier said to Reese. Reese thanked Collier for the compliment. Collier is having an outstanding season with the Lynx. This season the club has the best record in the league's Western Conference. Minnesota has 20 wins so far this campaign. The WNBA All-Star Game is without one of its stars Some of the excitement of this year's All-Star game has been dissipated, since Caitlin Clark is sitting out due to an injury. 'I'm so excited for Indy to host WNBA All-Star this weekend. … I know this will be the best All-Star yet,' Clark said in a statement, per ESPN. 'I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can't participate in the 3-Point Contest or the All-Star Game. I have to rest my body. I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action and I'm looking forward to helping Sandy [Brondello] coach our team to a win.' Many feel that Team Collier will have an advantage since Clark is out for her team. Collier is averaging more than 23 points a game this season. She is also making close to 52 percent of her shots. Collier was able to pick her teammates on her All-Star team. 'I feel like got to try to get some of my (Unrivaled) Owls girls on here and got to try to get some of my (UConn) Huskies girls on here. So, I've got an agenda coming into today,' Collier said, per USA Today. Other members of Team Collier include: Breanna Stewart, Paige Bueckers, and Allisha Gray. The All-Star game is at 8:30 ET on Saturday night. WNBA All-Star Game Performer Arrested On Felony Charge
WNBA All-Star Game Performer Arrested On Felony Charge originally appeared on The Spun. The WNBA All-Star Weekend took place in Indianapolis, Indiana, to rave reviews. While Caitlin Clark was unable to play in the game - or take part in the 3-Point Contest - thousands of fans still flocked to Indianapolis for the special weekend. The 3-Point Contest was won by Sabrina Ionescu, the players wore "Pay Us What You Owe Us" T-shirts before the game and the TV ratings were solid. However, one of the halftime performers from the WNBA All-Star Game has since been arrested. And she has reportedly been arrested on a felony charge. It's troubling. Rapper GloRilla, who performed at halftime of the WNBA All-Star Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, was arrested on a felony drug possession charge, according to TMZ. From the report: As we told you, GloRilla's house was broken into this weekend ... by the time cops arrived, the suspects were gone -- but investigators say they encountered weed in their search for the burglars, and the rapper was then charged with felony drug possession. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office tells TMZ ... deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress Saturday around 1:30 AM at a residence in the Atlanta suburbs. The sheriff's office says three suspects entered the house when an "armed occupant fired at the intruders." Her lawyers have since spoken out. "When her family members did the right thing and called law enforcement, instead of investigating the violent home invasion and theft at Ms. Woods' home, they instead sought a search warrant when they spotted what they believed was a small amount of marijuana," the attorneys said. "Law enforcement then sought arrest warrants for her even though she hadn't been at her home for some time. No arrest warrants have been issued for the violent home invaders. Ms. Woods is a victim, not a suspect. This is our tax dollars at work, absolutely unbelievable." Police, meanwhile, are standing by their decision. "The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice," Sheriff Ron Freeman said in a statement, according to FOX 5 in Atlanta. "At the same time, we must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case."
