(File) A 33-year-old man has been charged after someone broke into a residence in Sault Ste. Marie around 12:30 a.m. Thursday and began doing damage. Police received a 911 and responded to the call on Beverley Street. 'An investigation revealed the accused entered the victim's residence while holding a hatchet, damaged property and stole several items,' police said in a news release Friday. 'The victim and the accused are known to one another. No physical injuries were reported. A warrant was obtained for the accused's arrest.' The man was arrested later the same day and charged with robbery, unlawfully being in a dwelling house and mischief under $5,000. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Photo: RNZ / Angus Dreaver Three people have been arrested after stolen property was recovered from a series of burglaries and vehicle thefts in Nelson. It comes after numerous stolen goods, two firearms and drugs were recovered in a number of search warrants in recent weeks. A 45-year-old man is facing a number of charges including burglary and unlawfully being in an enclosed area. He will appear in the Nelson District Court on 1 September. A 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman have also been charged with receiving stolen property, unlawful possession of firearms and possessing drugs for supply. They will both appear in court within the next month. Police said they were grateful to members of the public who reported the burglaries, as the information provided assisted in making the arrests. "We would also like to remind everybody to lock their vehicles and not keep any valuables inside if your vehicle is unoccupied. "If you own any tools, ensure these remain out of sight and you have recorded a list of all the serial numbers, or engrave your initials into them." Guelph man arrested after stealing two e-bikes

The Guelph Police Service has arrested a man after they said he tried to get away from them on a stolen e-bike Saturday. Police said officers were patrolling the area of Paisley Road and Yorkshire Street North just before 7 p.m., when they saw a man riding an e-bike while holding another one. Two e-bikes had been reported stolen that afternoon from a home just outside of the downtown area. Police said when officers tried to stop the man, he dropped one of the bikes and rode off on the other. Officers caught him after a short chase and arrested searching the man, police said they found bear spray, suspected crystal methamphetamine and cocaine. A 33-year-old man from Guelph was charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, possessing a prohibited weapon, two counts of possessing controlled substances and possessing a weapon contrary to an order.

Alleged northern Ont. assault ends with victim being struck by phone

On May 30 about 8:40 p.m., police responded to a 911 report assault in the 200 block of Selby Road. Officers determined that a 33-year-old man allegedly punched one victim in the head, while a 43-year-old woman allegedly struck one victim in the head and scratched them, then hit another victim in the head with a cellphone. 'The victims sustained minor physical injuries,' the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release. Authorities said that neither accused was known to the victims. Both were arrested within the hour. The male faces one count of assault, while the woman is charged with both assault and assault with a weapon. They were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in court on July 28.
