Arrests by West Midlands Police have spiked, with 226 people apprehended on Wednesday for offences including knife possession, burglary and domestic force said the tally marked "one of the highest numbers in recent times".Police held 82 people on suspicion of domestic abuse, seven for robbery, eight for burglary and six for vehicle crime, while 10 were arrested for possession of knives or offensive crime across the West Midlands has dropped by almost 20,000 offences between July 2024 to June 2025, the force added. Among the arrests was a 43-year-old man in Wolverhampton on suspicion of burgling a home near the city centre last month.A 55-year-old man was arrested in Kings Norton on suspicion of domestic abuse offences, and a woman who was wanted for a robbery.A weapon was recovered from a person on Erdington High Street and another man found by the police dig unit hiding in bushes in Solihull was arrested for force said the number of arrests overall had risen since 2022 and three more custody blocks had been opened.A local policing model across seven areas was adopted in 2023 which "brought a better spread of officers, detectives and specialist staff across the force". A man has suffered serious injuries and two people have been arrested after an assault in Police said officers were called to Melrose Road at 00:42 BST on Thursday to reports of an "altercation" involving a weapon.A man was treated at the scene for injuries that were serious but not believed to be life threatening, a spokesperson for the force said.A 39-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm. "What that weapon was, and the circumstances of the incident, are forming part of our inquiry," the spokesperson added."It is believed that at least some of the people involved were known to each other, and work is ongoing to identify everyone involved."
