Raiders Named Landing Spot for Disgruntled 49ers Wide Receiver

Raiders Named Landing Spot for Disgruntled 49ers Wide Receiver originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders addressed their biggest needs this offseason with the additions of head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Geno Smith. New general manager John Spytek also bolstered several other key areas of the roster. Advertisement He did this primarily through the 2025 NFL Draft, as the team brought home a franchise-record 11 players across the three days. This included a young quarterback, a generational running back talent and three wide receivers. While these three young wideouts all have promise, and veteran Jakobi Meyers is coming off a career-best 1,027 receiving yards, there are still plenty of concerns about the Raiders' wide receiver room. San Francisco 49ers WR Jauan Jennings (15).© Cary Edmondson-Imagn Images Just before training camps begin in mid-July, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings made it known that he was not happy with his current contract situation and that he wished to be extended or traded. Advertisement On the heels of this controversy, CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin proposed several viable locations for the 49ers to trade the disgruntled receiver. To no surprise, Las Vegas was on the list. "The Raiders addressed basically every offensive skill spot with a splashy upgrade this offseason -- Geno Smith at quarterback, Ashton Jeanty at running back -- except receiver," Benjamin wrote. "Jack Bech should have an instantly sizable role opposite Jakobi Meyers and tight end Brock Bowers in the pass-catching department, but if Pete Carroll is serious about contending in 2025, well, they could use another set of sure hands. It's not hard to envision offensive coordinator Chip Kelly finding different ways to deploy Jennings, who could give Smith another proven safety valve through the air." Jennings is coming off his best campaign of his four-year career. He caught 77 passes for 975 yards and six touchdowns last season in San Francisco despite the offense being in shambles due to various injuries. He is only 28 years old as well, which means that he could have plenty of good football ahead of him. Plus, according to Spotrac, the Raiders have $31.8 million in salary cap space available, so they could afford to compensate him. Advertisement It should not take much more than a late-round pick to acquire Jennings, so if the 49ers choose not to extend him, Las Vegas could be one of the teams that quickly get on the phone. 1 49ers draft pick unsigned as rookies report to training camp

It's been a long offseason, but NFL teams are back in the building this week for the start of training camp, and for the San Francisco 49ers, they welcomed their rookies to their SAP Performance Facility next to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Tuesday. While the 49ers are ready to fully kick off camp when veterans arrive Tuesday, July 22, they still have some business to take care of, including rookie defensive lineman Alfred Collins' contract. Entering training camp, Collins is the team's lone unsigned draft pick of their 11-player class, but following a fascinating trend around the league, he's one of 30 second-round picks in the 2025 NFL draft that have yet to put pen to paper. Collins, 23, was a five-star recruit out of Cedar Creek High School in Cedar Creek, Texas, before committing to the University of Texas ahead of the 2020 season. In five years with the Longhorns, he appeared in 64 games, recording 141 tackles (18 for a loss), 12 passes defensed, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. He also earned All-SEC and All-American honors in 2024. At this point, Collins isn't considered a holdout, considering he's not under contract. However, when he does eventually sign, he'll be competing for a top spot in the interior of San Francisco's defensive line along with veterans Jordan Elliott and Kevin Givens and 2025 fourth-round pick C.J. West. Missing time in training camp could keep him from taking on an important role, especially early in the season. If the 49ers are looking to get Collins locked in sooner rather than later, they should be offering more guaranteed money, as that seems to be the holdup for these second-round rookie deals. The only second-round picks from the 2025 NFL draft to sign their deals thus far are Houston Texans wide receiver and Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger, who both received fully guaranteed entry-level contracts earlier this offseason. Examining 49ers contract incentives for 2025 NFL season

The San Francisco 49ers are set to start their 2025 training camp at their SAP Performance Facility next to Levi's Stadium with rookies reporting Tuesday, July 15 and veterans arriving a week later on July 22. This year, the 49ers will be looking to improve on their disappointing results in 2024, when they finished with a 6-11 record and in last place in their division. While they're hoping to win as many games as possible in pursuit of a Lombardi Trophy, there are several players who have contract incentives that they can earn throughout the year by completing specific tasks. Let's take a look at who those players are, and what they need to do to make some extra money in 2025. EDGE Bryce Huff The 49ers traded for Huff this offseason from the Philadelphia Eagles with the hopes that he'd play a pivotal role on the edge along with Nick Bosa and first-round pick Mykel Williams. He's never recorded more than 10 sacks in a season (2023 with the New York Jets) and has never made the Pro Bowl or earned All-Pro honors, so these incentives will be difficult to reach. OL Jake Brendel Brendel is entering his sixth season with San Francisco and his fourth as a starter. He's played at least 96% of the snaps in each of the last three seasons, so as long as he stays healthy, he should reach those markers, but he's yet to make a Pro Bowl. TE Luke Farrell The 49ers signed Farrell this offseason after he spent the last four years with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He's predicted to serve as their second tight end behind George Kittle. San Francisco only used multiple tight ends on 12.3% of their plays last season, so Kittle will probably have to miss time or Kyle Shanahan will have to change things up for Farrell to cash in. QB Mac Jones Jones joins the 49ers after spending the 2024 season with the Jaguars as well. He'll only make money if Brock Purdy goes down, and the team still does well. After watching Jones the last few years, it's hard to envision that happening, but maybe finally pairing him with Shanahan leads to better results. WR Demarcus Robinson Robinson signed with San Francisco this offseason after playing for the Los Angeles Rams the last two seasons. He's recorded at least 55 receptions four times in his career (2019 and 2020 with the Kansas City Chiefs, 2022 with the Baltimore Ravens and 2024 with the Rams). He's never caught more than seven touchdowns in a season. This year, he could be asked to be a top option for the 49ers to start the season with Brandon Aiyuk rehabbing a torn ACL that ended his 2024 season in Week 7. FB Kyle Juszczyk Juszczyk is returning the 49ers for his ninth season with the team. He's made the Pro Bowl every year in San Francisco thus far, so as long as he's healthy, he should earn this incentive as one of the top fullbacks in the game. DB George Odum Odum is entering his fourth season in San Francisco after spending his first four with the Indianapolis Colts. He's served as a depth safety and core special teamer for most of his time with the 49ers, never playing more than 13% of their defensive snaps. However, with Talanoa Hufanga, Tashaun Gipson and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles all leaving this offseason, he's one of the most experienced safeties in the room. DL Jordan Elliott Elliott is set to play in his second season with the 49ers after beginning his professional career with the Cleveland Browns. At this point, he's listed as a starting defensive lineman but could end up losing some playing time to rookies Alfred Collins and C.J. West. He's played over 50% of the defensive snaps just once in his career (2022 with the Browns) and 2.5 sacks (2023 with the Browns) is his career high. OL Colton McKivitz McKivitz is starting his sixth year with the 49ers and is expected to be the starting right tackle in 2025. He's played over 85% of the snaps in each of the last two seasons. He's never made a Pro Bowl. DB Siran Neal The 49ers signed Neal after he played 17 games for the Dolphins last seasons and 97 for the Buffalo Bills from 2018-23. He's yet to make a Pro Bowl, but he's one of the league's better gunners. DB Richie Grant Grant spent his first four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before signing a one-year deal with San Francisco in March. He's played over 30% of the defensive snaps twice in his career (2022 and 2023), and with the changes at safety and Malik Mustapha expected to miss the start of the 2025 season, he could see an up-tick in playtime early. Around the NFC West: 49ers WR Jauan Jennings wants new deal or trade

The San Francisco 49ers project to be one of the Seattle Seahawks' main adversaries in the NFC West this season. The rivalry between the Seahawks and 49ers has increased in recent seasons. If there's an area of weakness on San Francisco's roster that Seattle could exploit, it's at wide receiver. The 49ers traded Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders earlier this offseason. No. 1 receiver Brandon Aiyuk is still recovering from a season-ending torn ACL and MCL suffered in October. The 49ers may be overly reliant on sophomore receiver Ricky Pearsall to take a big step forward this year. Veteran Jauan Jennings may be the 49ers' most reliable receiver heading into Week 1. Well, it appears that Jennings knows he possesses some leverage. The consistent pass catcher wants a new contract or a trade, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Jennings is currently slated to enter the final season of a two-year, $15.4 million contract he signed in 2024. He's scheduled to earn $7.5 million this year. After signing the contract last offseason, Jennings produced a career-best campaign, recording 77 receptions for 975 yards and six touchdowns. He's asking for a pay raise or a trade. It's been a tumultuous offseason in San Francisco. You hate to see it!
