Extra jail for also damaging sis' car

Published on: Saturday, July 12, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jul 12, 2025 By: Jo Ann Mool Text Size: The charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code carries a punishment of one to five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, on conviction. Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man, who was recently jailed 12 months for assaulting his elder sister, was on Friday sentenced to another 14 months in jail and fined RM2,000, or two months jail by the Magistrate's Court for smashing the windscreen of his sister's car. Ridzuan Roslan, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to committing mischief by smashing a helmet onto the front windscreen of a car belonging to his sister, Normala Roslan, 48, which caused RM550 in damages. The incident took place on April 27, this year, at 1pm, at the parking area of Cyber City Apartment in Penampang. The charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code carries a punishment of one to five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, on conviction. The prosecution informed the court that a dispute between the siblings began when Normala told Ridzuan, her younger brother, to stop shouting inside the house. Ridzuan reacted aggressively by punching the victim on the right side of her head, choking her, and slamming her left arm against a metal grille door, said the prosecution, adding that the victim sustained bruises and injuries as a result of the attack. Ridzuan then ran outside to smash her red Proton Saga using a blue helmet, shattering its front windscreen. Dzul ordered Ridzuan to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest. On July 1, Ridzuan was sentenced to 12 months in jail by a Magistrate Court for assaulting Normala. Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman was fined RM100 or three days in jail for having RM6,599 in her bank account that she could not explain. Noor Cahaya Yusuf pleaded guilty to having the money, dishonestly obtained from the account owner, Mohd Khairil Ikhwan Abdul Rahman, for which she failed to provide a reasonable explanation as to how she had obtained the money on March 31, 2024, here. She was charged under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance (Chapter 80) of Sabah, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100, a jail term of up to three months, or both. According to the prosecution, the victim had seen an advertisement for gold rings on Telegram and agreed to purchase two pieces. He made six separate transfers totalling RM6,599 into a Bank Simpanan Nasional account under Noor Cahaya's name for the purchase and delivery. However, the jewellery was never delivered, and he was later asked to make additional payments. Feeling cheated, he lodged a police report. Inspectors Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah and Yusdi Basri prosecuted. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Two Years Later, Still The Smart Speaker That Gets It Right

Subscribe to our FREE Two years ago, American audio equipment manufacturer Sonos dropped the Era 100, as if it were answering a prayer we didn't know we were making. Fast-forward to 2025, and here's the thing nobody's talking about: this speaker isn't just still relevant—it's become the Swiss Army knife of home audio that actually makes sense. Forget the technical jargon for a minute. The Era 100 is basically that friend who shows up to every party and somehow makes everything better without trying too hard. You know the type. At RM1,299 (down from its original RM1,599 price tag), it's positioned in that sweet spot where you're not eating instant noodles for a month, but you're also not settling for something that sounds like it's playing music through a tin can. The real magic happens when you realise this isn't just another Bluetooth speaker pretending to be smart. This is a speaker that actually learns your space. That Living With It: The Stuff That Actually Matters Here's what two years of real-world use have taught its users: the Era 100, available in black or white, is stupidly easy to live with. You plop it down, and it figures out your room's acoustics. Suddenly, your Spotify playlist sounds like the artists are performing in your kitchen. The stereo sound—a genuine upgrade from the Jazz sounds warm and intimate, rock has punch, and even your guilty pleasure pop songs get the respect they deserve. The Connectivity Champion (With One Small Catch) But here's the lifestyle game-changer: it plays nice with everything. Your iPhone, your Android, your laptop, even that ancient iPod you refuse to throw away. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, direct connection—it's like the diplomatic ambassador of audio devices. There's one minor hoop to jump through: even if you're planning to use it purely as a Bluetooth speaker, you'll need to set it up through the Sonos app and connect it to Wi-Fi first. It's not a dealbreaker, just one of those 'really, Sonos?' moments that takes an extra five minutes of your life. When One Becomes Two: The Stereo Sweet Spot Here's where things get interesting: while one Era 100 sounds great, two of them together create something special. Pair them up for true stereo, and suddenly you're not just listening to music—you're sitting in the sweet spot of your own personal concert hall. The soundstage opens up, instruments find their proper places in the mix, and you start hearing details in songs you've played a thousand times. It's the difference between watching a movie on your phone versus seeing it in a proper cinema. The 2025 Perspective: Why It Still Makes Sense In a world where tech becomes obsolete faster than your gym membership, the Era 100 has aged like fine wine. The price drop makes it even more compelling, and frankly, the audio quality that impressed reviewers in 2023 hasn't deteriorated simply because newer models exist. The voice control situation is a bit of a mixed bag—Google Assistant got the boot, but Amazon Alexa and Sonos's voice commands still work. For most people, this means that 'Play my morning playlist' still works, and that's really all you need. The Bottom Line: Does Your Life Need This? If you're still using your phone speaker to play music while cooking dinner, or if your current speaker setup makes everything sound like it's being performed in a tunnel, then yes—your life probably needs this. The Era 100 isn't trying to be everything to everyone. It's just trying to be really, really good at making your music sound the way it's supposed to sound, in whatever space you call home. And here's a bonus that actually matters in real life: it doubles as the alarm clock you never knew you wanted. Through the Sonos app, you can wake up to your favourite playlist instead of that jarring phone beep, set different alarms for different days, and even choose which room gets the wake-up call. It's the kind of feature that sounds small until you realise you're starting every morning with music that actually sounds good. Two years later, in a market flooded with smart speakers that are either too cheap to sound good or too expensive to justify, the Era 100 remains that rare thing: a product that does exactly what it promises, without the drama. And sometimes, that's exactly what you need. READ MORE : READ MORE : Share your thoughts with us via TRP's . Get more stories like this to your inbox by signing up for our newsletter.

The Hair Dryer Top Stylists Swear By Is Now in Malaysia

Dyson's most advanced hair styling tool to date, the Dyson Supersonic r, is now officially available in Malaysia. Previously seen only in the hands of top stylists, this professional-grade hair dryer is now making its way into homes, offering salon-quality results with ease and precision. Priced at RM2,599, the Supersonic r can be found exclusively at Dyson Demo Stores and online at the official Dyson website. The Supersonic r made its backstage debut at A/W24 Fashion Week, earning praise from stylists like Sam McKnight, Eugene Souleiman, and Lacy Redway. Known for its lightweight build and enhanced manoeuvrability, it quickly became an essential part of their styling kits. What sets the Supersonic r apart is its remarkable engineering. It is Dyson's most powerful and lightest hair dryer to date -30 % smaller and 20% lighter than the original Supersonic™-making it exceptionally easy to handle. Despite its compact size, it delivers fast drying and leaves hair noticeably smoother and shinier, all while protecting against heat damage. A standout feature of the Supersonic r is its intelligent attachment system. Each attachment is equipped with RFID sensors that communicate directly with the dryer, automatically adjusting airflow and temperature for optimal results. This means users can achieve precise, consistent styling tailored to their hair type. The attachments are also designed to be easy to swap out, thanks to magnetic connectors, and are heat-resistant for safe handling. The device is available in two striking new colours: Ceramic Pink, inspired by the lustre of pearls, and Jasper Plum, a nod to the rare gemstone.
