Former Steelers QB Russell Wilson defends George Pickens: 'He wants to be great'
Former Steelers QB Russell Wilson defends George Pickens: 'He wants to be great' New Cowboys WR George Pickens is one of the most polarizing receivers to leave the Steelers in recent years — but if you asked his former QB Russell Wilson, he'd say he's simply "misunderstood." Wilson recently appeared on the podcast 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony and wasted little time singing Pickens' praises — and supporting his former receiver: "I love George [Pickens], man. His ability to catch the football is one of a kind. Anything in his vicinity, he's gon' catch it," Wilson said. "On a serious note, he's misunderstood outside. I think he's a guy that wants to be great. I think also when it comes to George — I think his ability where he can take it from not just being great, but to being one of the world's best, I think he has that in him." Pickens didn't catch a touchdown pass in 2024 until Wilson took over as QB in Week 7 — so it's safe to say the feeling may be mutual between the two. Is the former Steelers receiver truly misunderstood, or did his on- and off-the-field antics speak for themselves last season? Russell Wilson says Malik Nabers, Brian Daboll are why he signed with Giants
Russell Wilson says Malik Nabers, Brian Daboll are why he signed with Giants Show Caption Hide Caption Greg Olsen believes Travis Kelce 'controls how he leaves the game' Former NFL tight end Greg Olsen has high praise for Travis Kelce and shares when he believes Travis Kelce will eventually retire from the NFL. Sports Seriously Russell Wilson has been no stranger to moving in the last few years. He has gone coast-to-coast since 2021, which was his final season with the Seattle Seahawks. Since then, he's made stops with the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers before inking a deal with the New York Giants for the 2025 season. While the Steelers have made their intentions clear with their interest in Aaron Rodgers, Wilson is letting everyone know why he decided to play for "Big Blue" in the shadows of the Big Apple. During an appearance on the "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast with Carmelo Anthony, the quarterback was asked about his offseason move to the Giants. He went on to list a number of reasons, but none appeared to be bigger than Malik Nabers. "I was just excited because, for me, New York and this opportunity here to play here, the world's biggest market, the toughest, one of the toughest divisions in football, a lot of odds against you, team that I played against last year when I was in Pittsburgh," Wilson said. "I just turned on the film and watching this guy Malik Nabers, man, this dude's a superstar." Wilson spoke glowingly of Nabers, who finished his rookie season with 109 catches, 1,204 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. "I saw him, I was watching the film and just before I tried to make decisions, try to get a clear understanding of who the players are, this and that, and obviously you see the highlights and everything else, but when you watch every single catch and every single rep and every play, you get to see the kind of player he is, man, he's dynamic. He touches that football, he gone," Wilson said. The quarterback also had praise for his new head coach. "I really liked [Brian] Daboll too," Wilson said. "Obviously watching Dabes over the years, the guy who was a coach of the year, I don't know, two, three years ago, brilliant mind spending time with him. I actually came out here last year before I signed with Pittsburgh last time too, and I just had a great appreciation of his mind for the game and how he saw the game." The veteran figures to be the starter heading into the 2025 season in what has quickly become a crowded quarterback room. New York signed Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency before drafting Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. There is also the presence of Tommy DeVito, who reached folk hero status over the last two years. Wilson pointed out that he doesn't shy away from challenges or the bright lights. Ultimately, he feels comfortable with the Giants, adding that they have the pieces for success going forward. Considering the Giants have made the playoffs in just two of the 13 seasons since winning the Super Bowl in 2011, the quarterback certainly has his work cut out for him.

During an appearance on Carmelo Anthony's '7 PM in Brooklyn,' the new Giants quarterback explained how he manifested his relationship with the 'Ecstasy' singer. 'I was always a perfectionist, you know, I think you're always hoping that everyhing goes great and there's a relationship before and I was young and everything else and then all of a sudden I'm single,' Wilson, 36, said. 7 Russell Wilson explains how he manifested his relationship with his wife Ciara during an appearance on Carmelo Anthony's '7 PM in Brooklyn' podcast on May 29, 2025. He said non-negotiables … I said, 'I'm going to write my five non-negotiables down,'' Wilson said. 'The first one was, I want a woman of great faith. She's got just great faith. She's a believer. That was important to me because believing in Jesus, all that meant a lot to me. That's No. 1 thing. 'No. 2 was I want a woman who was faithful, not just to me but to everything that she does to anything and everything that she does,' Wilson continued. 'The third thing is I want a woman that was going to love me the way my mom loved my dad. Just how my mom, my dad was on his deathbed. Just like she was willing to do anything and everything for us and for him. I think that you want a woman that's got grit and that's going to be there when it's thick, when it's tough, when it's hard and things aren't going well, whatever it may be in life when my dad has leg amputated or whatever it may be. 7 Wilson and Ciara at Game 2 of Knicks-Pacers. Jason Szenes / New York Post 'I think the other thing was I wanted a woman who was independent, didn't have to be Ciara but had the right identity, wanted to volunteer, wanted to be a doctor, wanted to be whatever it is, but at the end of the day had their own identity. Didn't want to just be Russell's wife, but just had their own identity of what they wanted to be and create and do in life. 'I think the last thing was I wanted a woman who would tilt the room when they walked in the room, all the furniture slides her way. You know what I mean? Everything slides her way. I just remembered that I wrote that down. We prayed over it and three days later I met C.' 7 Ciara on the red carpet at the American Music Awards at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas on May 26, 2025. Spike Lee names his Top 5 New York Knicks villains: "He rolled the dice and nobody did nothing"
Academy Award-winning film director Spike Lee first became a New York Knicks season ticket holder after the Knickerbockers drafted Patrick Ewing first overall in the 1985 NBA Draft. Since then, he's been a regular at The Garden and has seen every opponent the Kicks have faced at the Mecca. During a recent appearance on Carmelo Anthony's "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast, Lee enumerated his Top 5 all-time Knicks villains, and Spike's answers did not disappoint. Advertisement "You got Reggie Miller. You got Mike. You heard it. That double-nickel game, goddamn!" began Lee. He rolled the dice Miller's name coming out of Spike's mouth first was no surprise. It was toward Spike where Reggie made the iconic 'choke' gesture after dropping 25 points in the 4th quarter of a 1994 playoff game against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Then as he mentioned, MJ's double-nickel game is one of the best performances by an opponent at the Mecca. Spike also mentioned LeBron James and Kobe Bryant before seemingly running out of names. But when Melo and his co-host Kazeem Fayumide asked him about a current villain named Trae Young, who plays for the Atlanta Hawks, the "He Got Game" film director nodded in approval and became animated while recalling Young's celebration after the Hawks beat the Knicks in the quarterfinals of the 2024 In-Season Tournament. Advertisement "He's a villain ... and he plays into that," Lee told Anthony. "He rolled the dice and Nobody did nothing! ... You know what the Knicks said? They said 'We didn't see him do that.' I don't believe that ... No, that would not have happened with some other Knick teams. Xavier McDaniel? Oakley? Them guys? On the logo, at midcourt! Nobody did nothing!" It all started in the 2021 Playoffs Ice Trae first earned the ire of Knicks fans when his Hawks faced the Knicks in the 2021 NBA playoffs. In his first-ever playoff appearance in Game 1, Young scored 32 points, issued 10 assists, and grabbed 7 rebounds. He hit a running shot with 0.9 left in the game to beat the Knicks and then told the Garden crowd to 'be quiet' after they were chanting "Fu** Trae Young" throughout the game. Advertisement The beef between Knicks fans and Young continued throughout that series. But Trae had the last laugh when hit a 32-foot 3-pointer with 43 seconds left to ice the game. He bowed at center court and waved goodbyes to the stunned MSG crowd. The hostility continued after that but it wasn't until "Ice Trae" rolled the dice to signify his team advancing to the Las Vegas semifinals of the IST that Knicks fans like Spike rekindled the hate again. But as Lee said, it wasn't so much about Young disrespecting the Knicks logo but about the team doing nothing about it. It can be recalled that all Knicks captain Jalen Brunson had to say after the game was if they didn't want to see Trae do what he did, they should've won the game. That reply was politically correct. However, for die hard Knicks fans like Lee and Melo, the players shouldn't tolerate invaders trampling the 'flag of New York.' Former LSU Star Malik Nabers Takes Clear Stance on Jerry Rice
New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers went on the '7PM in Brooklyn' show with Carmelo Anthony. It was a wide ranging interview that lasted almost two hours with the second year star from LSU. During the interview, the host and Malik discussed Shedeur Sanders falling in the NFL Draft, his biggest regrets concerning Kyren Lacy's untimely passing and the school's ability to produce top offensive talent in the NFL. The show also had a number of unaired clips that were used to promote the interview on X. In one video, Malik is asked who he'd name among his top LSU receivers of all time. His answer might surprise some longtime Tigers fans as he said, 'Me first, of course. Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson at #3, Brian Thomas Jr. at #4 and Odell Beckham Jr. at #5.' It's interesting that he skipped over Josh Reed, although Malik was an infant when Reed was putting up 3,000 career receiving yards. Other possibilities could have included Wendell Davis, Dwayne Bowe, Jarvis Landry, or Michael Clayton. Although, there's not much to argue about with his top five choices. Advertisement However, when asked how he would compare to past and present NFL wide receivers, Malik's answers may have raised a few eyebrows. The hosts played a game called 'King of the Hill' to determine the best wide receiver in the NFL. He was asked who he would select between himself and A.J. Brown and he confidently said, 'Malik Nabers.' From there, he was asked to compare himself against others including Drake London, Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson and finally, the legendary Jerry Rice. To which Malik responded every time, 'Me, of course.'
