KL Immigration nets RM4.6mil in compounds from 272 ops this year to date

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 272 operations resulting in 1,789 detentions of undocumented migrants have been conducted in the city by the Immigration Department this year. Its Kuala Lumpur director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said those detained were the result of checks on 3,587 foreigners from Jan 1 up to Tuesday (May 20). The department also collected RM4.59mil in compounds during the same period, he added. "The operations are conducted daily without fail, as our priority is enforcement to safeguard the nation's security and sovereignty. "We also detained 68 local and foreign employers for hiring undocumented migrants," he told a press conference at KL Immigration headquarters on Wednesday (May 21). "We also opened 1,551 investigation papers for various offences, including overstaying and abuse of passes. "Among the highest number of detainees were those from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan," he said. On the Migrant Repatriation Programme 2.0, Wan Mohammed Saupee said 96 people have signed up so far since the start of the programme on Monday (May 19). "We also collected RM26,840 in compounds and special passes," he added.

KARACHI: Gold prices further lowered on Friday depicting a downturn in the global market, traders said. International bullion market saw a drop by $18 to $3, 325 per ounce dragging down the local gold prices by Rs1,800 per tola and Rs1,543 per 10 grams. This brought the gold total value to Rs350,900 per tola and Rs300,840 per 10 grams, All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewelers Association said. Domestic silver prices remained stable at Rs3,417 per tola and Rs2,929 per 10 grams with world market holding firm at over $32 per ounce, the association added. Likewise, the price of 10 grams dropped by Rs1,543 to Rs300,840. The downward trend followed Thursday's dip of Rs4,200, when the per tola price had touched Rs352,700. Commenting on market dynamics, Interactive Commodities Director Adnan Agar said gold had earlier dipped to around $3,270 before recovering slightly, with current trading levels hovering between $3,330 and $3,340. "There's still some support in the market on the lower side," he noted. "We're seeing range-bound movement, and the upcoming weekend talks between the US and China, along with regional developments will be crucial for next direction." Gold rose over 1% on Friday as the dollar ticked lower, while the market digested comments on tariffs from US President Donald Trump ahead of a weekend meeting between the US and China, according to Reuters. Meanwhile, the Pakistani rupee continued its downward trend against US dollar on Friday, slipped 0.07% in the interbank market. It closed at 281.71, down by Rs0.19 from the previous day's closing rate of 281.52.

Gold price per tola declines Rs1,800 in Pakistan

Gold prices in Pakistan declined on Friday in line with their fall in the international market. In the local market, gold price per tola reached Rs350,900 after it lost Rs1,800. Similarly, 10-gram gold was sold at Rs300,840 after it registered a decline of Rs1,543, as per the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA). On Thursday, gold price per tola reached Rs352,700 after it lost Rs4,200. Moreover, the international rate of gold also declined on Friday. As per APGJSA, the rate was at $3,325 per ounce (with a premium of $20), a decrease of $18 during the day. Furthermore, silver price per tola remained at Rs3,417.
