Airbus Broughton workers could go on strike over pay dispute
Potential strikes would affect sites Broughton and Filton near Bristol, Unite have said. Members of the Unite union, Britain's largest union in the defence and aerospace sector, are to be balloted about taking industrial action following a series of unacceptable pay offers. Although Unite has begun balloting over 3,000 aircraft fitters and engineers at the aerospace giant for industrial action, the union remains hopeful that Airbus will return to the negotiating table and a mutually acceptable agreement can be reached. The highly skilled workers play a critical role in the production of aircraft wings for the hugely successful A320 family, A330, A350 and A400M military transport aircraft - core programmes in Airbus's global operations. Should they vote to strike the company's sites in Broughton (Flintshire) and Filton (near Bristol) will grind to a halt, delaying delivery of aircraft wings bringing aircraft deliveries to a standstill. Sharon Graham, Unite general secretary, said: 'Airbus has posted billions in profit and continues to report record aircraft orders. Workers are still struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and this unacceptable pay offer is simply not good enough. "Airbus needs to get back round the negotiating table with an offer our members can accept.' TOP STORIES Rhys McCarthy, Unite national officer, said: 'There is no justification for denying the workforce - whose skills and dedication drive Airbus' success - a pay rise that reflects both the cost-of-living pressures and inflation. 'Workers are balloting for industrial action as a last resort, due to stalled negotiations. Unite remains fully committed to resolving this dispute through negotiation and stands ready to return to talks with Airbus to secure an agreement which is acceptable to both sides.' The ballot will run until July 24. If members vote in favour, strike action could begin in September, with dates to be confirmed. Sue Partridge, Airbus UK country manager, commercial aircraft, said: "We have made a competitive and fair pay offer in 2025. Our revised one year offer to our blue collar employees (3.3% with a further 0.3% in January 2026) is in addition to the £2,644 success bonus payment employees received in April. This builds on the strong foundations of pay increases that total 20% in the last three years. "Our priority continues to be supporting our employees and ensuring the long-term success and stability of Airbus Commercial Aircraft in the UK. It remains business as usual across our operations."

France Deploys Military Aircraft to Evacuate Nationals from Israel
Israa Farhan In response to escalating regional tensions, France has announced the deployment of an A400M military aircraft to evacuate its nationals from Israel. The coordinated operation was confirmed in a joint statement issued on Sunday by the French Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Armed Forces. The military flights will operate from Ben Gurion Airport to Cyprus, pending formal clearance from Israeli authorities. These flights are intended to supplement ongoing civilian evacuation routes, including those operating out of Amman, Jordan. The decision to initiate military evacuations was made during a special session of the French National Defence and Security Council, convened at the Élysée Palace on Sunday at the request of President Emmanuel Macron. About 250,000 French nationals reside in Israel, with around 100,000 registered with consular services. According to the French Ministry of Defence, the number of flights will be adjusted based on demand. The A400M aircraft has a capacity of around 100 passengers. France's Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs reported that its crisis hotline has handled over 4,500 calls within the past week, indicating widespread concern among French citizens in the region. On Sunday, 160 French nationals, primarily those deemed vulnerable, were successfully repatriated to Paris from Jordan. French Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot welcomed them personally at Paris Orly Airport. One returnee, Hervé Béribi, told reporters that the evacuation was smooth and well-coordinated, expressing hope for peace and stability for all communities involved, regardless of identity or background. Minister Barrot confirmed via the platform X that two additional flights are scheduled, and that French military aircraft will be fully integrated into the evacuation effort starting Monday. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

France will send A400M military planes to Israel to fly out citizens who wish to leave for Cyprus. PHOTO: AFP France says drafting military aircraft to fly nationals out of Israel PARIS - France is to send military A400M aircraft to Israel to fly out any of its citizens who wish to leave for Cyprus, the foreign and defence ministries said on June 22 . The flights will be carried out subject to Israel's clearance and will supplement the chartered civilian flights already operating, the ministries added. France has some 250,000 of its citizens in Israel – around 100,00 registered on consular lists. Earlier on June 22 , 160 French nationals – most of them vulnerable or in urgent situations – were flown to Paris from Jordan accompanied by a doctor. 'Two more flights are coming, and starting tomorrow, our military planes will be engaged,' wrote French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on his X account. 'It went really, really well, so we're glad to arrive. But we are also thinking of our families, for the most part,' Mr Herve Berrebi, one of the passengers, told media. 'We hope for some peace, a little, for all communities regardless of who they are.' A crisis team at the foreign ministry has received more than 4,500 phone calls over the last week. More flights will follow, said the ministry. AFP Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.
