No alliance at the top, but Congress, AAP discuss strategy ahead of Goa assembly session
Even though Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has announced that there would be no alliance with the Congress, local leaders of the two parties have come together to coordinate the opposition's strategy ahead of the monsoon session of the Goa assembly. The session will be held from July 21 to August 8. Congress and AAP MLAs attended a meeting called by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on July 15, while the leaders of other opposition parties including the Goa Forward Party and Revolutionary Goans Party remained absent. "I convened a meeting with the opposition MLAs, including AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva, and Congress's Carlos Alvares Ferreira and Altone D'Costa," Mr. Alemao said in a statement. The purpose was to draw up the opposition's strategy, he said. "The discussion was productive, with valuable inputs from MLAs Venzy Viegas, Carlos, Altone and Cruz on how to hold the BJP government accountable," said Mr. Alemao who belongs to the Congress. "We are united in our determination to protect Goa from the corrupt BJP government's clutches," he added. Congress MLAs have submitted over 750 Legislative Assembly Questions (LAQs) for the session, Mr. Alemao said. AAP Goa president Amit Palekar said to attend the meeting was the decision of the legislative wing of his party. The AAP and Congress have decided to demand accountability from the BJP government on the floor of the House, he said, adding that a collective strategy was decided for the sake of the people of Goa. In a joint statement issued on Tuesday (July 15, 2025), AAP MLAs Viegas and Silva said, "United we stand for Goa's justice. For meaningful change in the assembly, AAP and opposition parties must align their political and legislative wings. Common political discipline and collective action should happen."

Delhi L-G orders ACB probe into 'corruption' in Jai Bhim coaching scheme: Education Minister Sood
Lt Governor V. K. Saxena has ordered an ACB probe into alleged corruption in the Jai Bhim Pratibha Vikas Yojna during the tenure of previous AAP government in Delhi, Education Minister Ashish Sood said on Wednesday (July 16, 2025). Under the scheme, SC, ST and OBC students were provided free coaching at private institutes for various competitive exams, including that of civil services. In a joint press conference with SC/ST Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj, Sood alleged that a bill of ₹145 crore was prepared during Covid period in 2021-22 for payment to private coaching institutes. The Education Minister said the previous AAP government neither sought any list of students from the coaching institutes nor verified them. In a post on X, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, "Allegations of major financial irregularities have emerged in the 'Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojna' during 2020–21." She said that while the scheme had an official budget of ₹15 crore, the then AAP government allegedly pushed files with fake bills worth over ₹142 crore. "There was such corruption by the AAP government that even Dr Ambedkar's soul would be pained," Mr. Sood charged, adding that the L-G ordered the probe on recommendation of the Chief Minister. Mr. Sood said after the BJP government came to power, it sought a list of students from the coaching institutes which gave a figure of 13,000. "Even if it is assumed that all the students received coaching for civil services exam, for which the fee was ₹1 lakh, the total amount payable would be ₹130 crore," said the Minister. Mr. Indraj said that the matter is in the court and only 3,000 students have been verified to have received coaching.

Raghav Chadha seeks public input ahead of Parliament's monsoon session
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha, often seen as the party's articulate and youthful voice in Parliament, has once again turned to the public ahead of the Monsoon Session beginning July 21. In a tweet on Wednesday, Chadha invited citizens to suggest issues that deserve urgent national attention. 'I have always tried to raise those issues in Parliament that matter to you,' Chadha wrote, urging people to use the comments section to highlight their concerns. 'Your suggestion could be the next big debate in the upcoming Monsoon Session,' he added, using hashtags like #Parliament and #MonsoonSession. Chadha's tweet sparked a flurry of responses, with many users raising issues such as high-income tax, GST burden, poor road infrastructure, and lack of employment opportunities, reflecting widespread public frustration over economic stagnation and rising cost of living. This will be the first session of Parliament after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam and India's retaliatory Operation Sindoor, which could dominate national security discussions. Chadha, however, appears focused on amplifying civic and economic issues that directly affect the common man. Notably, in the previous Winter Session, Chadha raised the issue of overpriced food at Indian airports, a move that earned him significant public praise. His intervention led to the launch of the "Udaan Yatri" cafe—an affordable food outlet at Chennai airport—followed by a similar cafe at Kolkata airport, making him a relatable figure for regular flyers. With Parliament set to witness heated debates in the coming days, Chadha's crowd-sourced approach may once again shape the discourse, bridging the gap between citizen grievances and legislative action. His tweet is not just a call for suggestions, but also a political attempt to position himself as the people's representative in the truest sense.
