Kaizer Chiefs target prolific lower league striker amid transfer race

Kaizer Chiefs have stepped up their pursuit of one of the lower divisions' most exciting forwards, as they look to sharpen their attacking arsenal ahead of the new Betway Premiership season. A source has confirmed that Amakhosi are closely monitoring Thapelo Matlhoko, the prolific striker from Kruger United. Who has become a hot property following a string of standout performances, as per Soccer Laduma . Chiefs aren't alone in the chase, but they appear to be in the driving seat. 'Now Kaizer Chiefs are also interested in him. But let's see where he will go,' a source close to the situation said. Matlhoko first caught the eye of scouts during the ABC Motsepe League playoffs, where his finishing instincts and physical presence turned heads. Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly kept tabs on him ever since. According to the source, Marumo Gallants, Golden Arrows, and two other unnamed Betway Premiership teams have also shown interest. However, it's Chiefs who seem most determined to secure his signature. 'As much as Chiefs have enquired about him, so has Golden Arrows and two other Betway Premiership sides. But the scouts at Marumo Gallants know him better and that gives them a better chance of signing him,' the source revealed. Matlhoko's current club, Kruger United, managed to retain him last season despite previous attempts from clubs like Gallants to lure him away. This time, though, the level of interest has escalated, and Kaizer Chiefs are well-positioned to convince the player to take the next step in his career. 'It's not the first time they have shown interest in him. During the ABC Motsepe playoffs last season they wanted him but Kruger United kept him at least for another season,' said a source. With Chiefs rebuilding under pressure and seeking fresh attacking options, Matlhoko could emerge as a low-risk, high-reward addition. Will Matlhoko be able to handle the pressure at Kaizer Chiefs? The final whistle blows for SAFA Sedibeng Regional League 2024/2025 soccer season

SEDIBENG.- With the SAFA Sedibeng Hollywood Men's Regional League season coming to an end, there is no doubt that Young Pirates FC will be crowned the 2024/2025 season league champions. Pirates FC has been at the top of the log standings for the better part of the season, and with less than three games to play, they have already crowned the league champions. Boipatong FC is currently second and VUT FC third on the log. The gap between these teams suggests that Pirates FC will walk away with the title for the second consecutive year. Last season, they were crowned Stream A winners and SAFA Sedibeng Hollywood Men's League overall winners. Last season, the SAFA Sedibeng Regional League was divided into two streams, consisting of 20 teams. This meant each team had to play a total of 38 games. After they were crowned the overall champions, Pirates went on to represent this region at the Inter-Regional Promotion Play-offs. They, however, failed to secure promotion to the ABC Motsepe League. As things stand, for the past three seasons, there is no team that has been promoted to the ABC Motsepe League. The last team to represent Sedibeng in the ABC Motsepe League was Vaal Professional FC, NWU Vaal FC, and VUT FC. Unfortunately, these above-mentioned teams have since been relegated to the lower division – the Hollywood League, formerly the SAB Regional League. For the past three years, it has been difficult for the Sedibeng region to produce an ABC Motsepe League team. Young Pirates FC will carry the hopes of local soccer fans to gain promotion to the ABC Motsepe League. With all the resources on home soil, it is a shame that this region doesn't have representatives in top-flight football, especially the semi-professional league. Kaizer Chiefs can now get Asanele Velebayi for free!

Kaizer Chiefs can now get Asanele Velebayi for free ahead of next season following Cape Town Spurs' relegation. Spurs were relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the ABC Motsepe League this past weekend. This is Spurs' second successive relegation after having been relegated from the topflight over a season ago. Now, effectively, all their players, contracted or not, are free agents as they are no longer in the professional ranks. Velebayi, an exciting player that Chiefs wanted to sign for R4 million from Spurs, has a chance to join Amakhosi. However, that will depend on whether or not Chiefs are still interested in signing the 23-year-old attacker given interest from other teams. 'SABC Sport can confirm that Cape Town Spurs captain Asanele Velebayi – as per NSL rules – is now a free agent after the Urban Warriors were relegated to the amateur ranks on Sunday,' reports SABC Sport. 'The public broadcaster reached out to several experts who spoke on condition of anonymity to confirm whether the attacker would be remaining with Spurs beyond the current season.' 'No, his contract is of a professional nature and as far as I understand the procedures Asanele and his teammates are effectively free agents and can get their clearances tomorrow if need be,' one of them explained. WILL AMAKHOSI BE THE FIRST TO SHOW INTEREST? Durban City crowned Motsepe champs as they relegate Cape Town Spurs

Durban City clinched the 2024-25 Motsepe Foundation Championship title with a 1-0 win at Athlone Stadium on Sunday that also condemned Cape Town Spurs to the third tier ABC Motsepe League. Veteran forward Ruzaigh Gamildien scored the 43rd-minute winner earned promotion back to the Betway Premiership for the team formerly known as Maritzburg United, who relocated from Pietermaritzburg to Durban and named themselves after the iconic Durban team ahead of this season. Cape Town Spurs — the team formerly known as Ajax Cape Town and owned by Ari Efstathiou, who were relegated from the Premiership a year ago — fell another division in the space of a season as they finished in 15th place. Leruma United ended last and were also relegated.

A wet and wild affair in ABC Motsepe League

In a thrilling ABC Motsepe League encounter, title-chasing Gomora United FC flexed their muscles with a dominant 2-0 away victory over Wits, narrowing the gap on log leaders Highlands Park to just seven points. Read more: Roosevelt High School girl's soccer gives a powerful performance in a 5–1 victory against Allen Glen The visitors from Alexandra came out firing on all cylinders, determined to take advantage of the opportunity to claw back points in the title race. From the first whistle, Gomora looked hungry, piling early pressure on the home side with a flurry of attacks and back-to-back corners. Their persistence paid off midway through the first half when they were awarded a penalty following a defensive lapse from Wits. Up stepped Thapelo Maleka, who calmly slotted it home to the bottom left corner, sending the keeper the wrong way, to give his side the lead and swing the momentum firmly in Gomora's favour. But Wits was not ready to roll over just yet. Mfumo Khosa came close to equalising when his thunderous strike rattled the post, while Obakeng Rathebe's shot hit the side netting as the home side started to build momentum towards the end of the half. Despite the late surge from Wits, Gomora took a narrow 1-0 lead into the break. The second half was all about Gomora. Despite heavy rain making conditions tough underfoot, the visitors maintained their composure and possession, turning the screws on Wits' defence. Roger Majafa had an early chance to double the lead but sent his shot wide. Gomora continued to turn up the pressure, and their dominance finally bore fruit when Sydney Tsoane delivered a sublime curling cross into the box. Majafa made no mistake this time, latching onto the delivery and firing past the keeper to make it 2-0, emphatically sealing the result. As the final whistle blew, the visitors walked away with three crucial points, moving to 64 on the table with a game in hand. Highlands Park remains top with 71. Wits, meanwhile, remain in 8th place on 40 points, with coach Kgabo Ditsebe admitting the penalty was a turning point. 'We tried our best to contain them in the first half. After the penalty, everything changed. We lost the ball too much in the central areas, and although we pushed our forwards up, it didn't work out.' Ditsebe remained optimistic, stressing the importance of making the most of their remaining fixtures. 'Every game now is crucial. We have to push for better results going forward.' As the title race heats up, Gomora FC are showing no signs of slowing down, and with form like this, Highlands Park will be watching their rearview mirror closely.
