Kaizer Chiefs: Motaung on Velebayi and Baartman

Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director Jessica Motaung says the club is taking a professional approach to the transfer saga involving Luke Baartman and Asanele Velebayi. With Cape Town Spurs relegated ABC Motsepe League, the duo could very well be free agents pending the Premier Soccer League Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) hearing. The Urban Warriors argue that the players are still contracted with the team and if a club wants their services, they should buy them. Motaung says Kaizer Chiefs will wait for the outcome of the hearing. 'I think what's important is that we're in the business of doing things that won't interfere with other clubs, we want to follow certain procedures and that relates to any other player we're looking at,' she told the media. 'So, we're taking a very professional approach in terms of integrating and bringing the players into the team, so we will make sure we only make announcements when the time is right – so watch this space. 'But certainly, we can't be engaging on players who are still with teams or still contracted. once there are any changes we will make those announcements. There's a process; it needs to be followed, once it's done, we will make announcements.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. I hope I'm not wrong – your thoughts please?

Zakes' Sports Corner has been told that Young Pirates FC is going to play their ABC Motsepe League home game in Midvaal. So, what does this mean for our football in this region? MATTER OF FACT, Zakes' Sports Corner was under the impression that the club would play their league matches either at Qedilize ground in Evaton North in Vaal, or even at the Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark. These two venues in the past hosted top-flight football, especially the Isak Steyl Stadium. This venue hosted the Motsepe Foundation Championship and DSTV Diski Challenge matches in the past. So, based on this, Zakes' Sports Corner thought this venue would be a top pick for Young Pirates FC to play their home fixtures. However, Zakes' Sports Corner was wrong to think this venue would be automatically chosen. Whenever this venue hosted either the Motsepe Foundation Championship or DDC matches, the local soccer fans came in numbers. Please, don't get Zakes' Sports Corner wrong. I'm not suggesting that the choice for the club to use the Meyerton Stadium is a bad decision. No, Not at all! Those with long memories will recall how, in the past, Meyerton Stadium used to host the ABC Motsepe League matches, formerly the Vodacom League. Zakes' Sports Corner wants to believe that the decision for the Young Pirates FC management to use this venue for their home games was purely based on the interest of football, especially the Midvaal community. But having said this, the club's management could have looked at a number of things before they made the decision to play their home games there. For example, the population was something that they could have thought about before the decision was made. Isak Steyl Stadium and Qedilizwe were the most central venues. These are top-notch soccer facilities that the club could have utilised! But the reality is that it is well known that the Emfuleni Local Municipality's services are a BIG concern. The sports facilities are not maintained, and Zakes' Sports Corner guesses that Young Pirates FC's decision to play their game in Midvaal was something to do with service delivery under this municipality. I hope I'm not wrong! The sporting facilities in Emfuleni leave much to be desired, to say the least. Zakes' Sports Corner wishes Young Pirates FC all the best in their campaign in the ABC Motsepe League in the new season. Let the games begin! The Bees FC receive warm welcome ahead of ABC Motsepe Championship

The Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation welcomed The Bees FC (also known as Nyoshi Yaluma) to the Mpumalanga Government Complex on Monday, July 7. The team, which has qualified to compete in the ABC Motsepe Championship, was greeted by the MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL), Jackie Macie, and SAFA Ehlanzeni president, Kaizer Sibanyoni. Nyoshi Yaluma is proof that hard work produces results. The Bees recently represented the province in the national play-offs and will join Kruger United FC in the second tier of professional football next season. Gomora edges Midlands to secure promotion to Motsepe Foundation Championship

Gomora United FC took on Midlands Wanderers in a tense ABC Motsepe League national playoff semi-final at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, on July 5. Gomora United, representing Gauteng, defeated Midlands, representing KwaZulu-Natal, 1–0, sealing their promotion to the second tier of South African football. Read more: ARMSTA shows support for Gomora United FC On Saturday evening, the stakes were high, with both teams gunning for promotion. The first half ended in a stalemate, with neither team able to break the deadlock despite promising chances. Gomora United nearly took the lead, just under eight minutes after a handball by Midlands' player Philani Khumalo inside the box resulted in a penalty. Captain Thapelo Maleka stepped up to convert, hoping to give Gomora an early lead, but Midlands' goalkeeper, Ngobani Langa, blocked the spot kick, stretching far enough to tip the ball off to the left post. Gomora maintained momentum, while Midlands pressed forward with their own attacking threats. Early in the second half, Midlands conceded another penalty when Siduduzo Dlamini fouled Siyabonga Mashinini inside the box. This gave Maleka the opportunity to redeem himself, after missing the first penalty. Langa was left standing still after Maleka's powerful spot kick to the left, giving Gomora the lead at just under 67 minutes. Midlands searched desperately for an equaliser, but could not find the breakthrough, despite their repeated attempts to score. Although they lost against Gomora, Midlands' hope for promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship are not entirely shattered. They will have another shot at promotion through the third/fourth place playoff. This is because an additional team from the ABC Motsepe League has to be promoted to fill the void left by Royal AM's exit from the professional ranks. Gomora United's win against Midlands, and The Bees victory against Thames FC, guarantees their promotion. The two semi-final victors will go head-to-head in the finals on July 6.
