Auburn basketball learns opponent for 2025 ACC-SEC challenge

Auburn basketball learns opponent for 2025 ACC-SEC challenge Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers will face a former SEC head coach in this year's edition of the ACC-SEC Challenge. The 2024 ACC-SEC Challenge was a huge success for the SEC, who posted a 14-2 record in the event. Auburn, unfortunately, was not on the winning side of last year's challenge, falling to Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina, 84-78. This year, the Tigers will aim for revenge in front of their home crowd as they will host the NC State Wolfpack at Neville Arena for this year's edition of the ACC-SEC Challenge, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports. This year's matchup is intriguing as it will pit Auburn's Bruce Pearl against former LSU head coach Will Wade, who is set to begin his first season as the Wolfpack's head coach after spending the last two seasons at McNeese State. Wade is set to take on the challenge of building NC State back into an ACC contender after the program recorded a 38-34 record, with a 14-26 mark in ACC play over the last two seasons under Kevin Keatts. Wade won 105 games in five seasons at LSU. Since arriving in Raleigh, Wade has worked tirelessly in his rebuilding efforts through the transfer portal by landing former North Carolina forward Ven-Allen Lubin, former Houston forward Terrance Arceneaux, and ex-Texas Tech forward Darrion Williams. He also landed the nation's No. 14 recruiting class with four-star guard Matt Able headlining the haul. Auburn basketball will nearly start from scratch with its roster following last season's Final Four run. Auburn signed key players, including Mississippi State forward Keshawn Murphy, the Big 12's leading scorer Keyshawn Hall, and a talented wing player in Elyjah Freeman this offseason. Pearl also landed a top-20 recruiting class that features two JUCO stars and a pair of four-stars from the high school ranks. This season's matchup with NC State has the makings of a classic. Here is a look at the complete lineup for this season's ACC-SEC Challenge. Newest basketball transfer played against the Tar Heels twice in 2024

Newest basketball transfer played against the Tar Heels twice in 2024 Can Jarin Stevenson grow into his full potential now that he's a Tar Heel? If there's one team that has UNC's number on the basketball court, it's Alabama. The Crimson Tide eliminated North Carolina from the 2024 NCAA Tournament last year, then won an ACC-SEC Challenge matchup in December. Despite its recent success against the Tar Heels, Alabama has yet to win a National Championship. The Crimson Tide also enter their 2025-2026 campaign without a key player, as Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson transferred to UNC on April 13. Though Stevenson will now suit up for the team he grew up cheering for, Stevenson also had small impacts in each of his former school's victories against North Carolina. When the Crimson Tide eliminated the Tar Heels during the 2024 NCAA Tournament, Stevenson grabbed four rebounds, blocked one shot and dished out an assist in 15 minutes off the bench. Four months ago in December, Stevenson enjoyed more of an impact in 16 minutes: six points, three rebounds, one block and assist apiece. After Alabama's win over UNC last season, Stevenson spoke briefly about what it meant to play against UNC. "Tonight was definitely a surreal feeling," Stevenson said. "I've been to quite a bit of their (UNC) games. My mom (Nicole Walker Stevenson) played here too. It's nice being back and it's always great to get a win." Stevenson is now part of a suddenly deep, talented frontcourt that includes incoming 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson, Arizona transfer Henri Veesaar and North Carolina center Ven-Allen Lubin, who enjoyed a late-season ascension after replacing Jalen Washington in the starting lineup. There's also the possibility of Zayden High returning, though we have no official word on that decision yet. Jarin Stevenson following in a family member's footsteps by playing UNC basketball

Jarin Stevenson following in a family member's footsteps by playing UNC basketball Jarin Stevenson gets to continue his family's basketball legacy at UNC. Just a couple years after Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson chose to start his college basketball career at Alabama, he's coming back home to UNC via the transfer portal. North Carolina experienced glaring frontcourt issues during its 2024-2025 season, but quickly addressed that need through high school recruiting and the 2025 offseason portal. The Tar Heels already had 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson coming in, but also nabbed Arizona center Henri Veesaar. Stevenson is the newest addition to UNC's roster, but he's far from a stranger when it comes to North Carolina basketball. Stevenson's mother, Nicole Walker Stevenson, played for legendary Tar Heels coach Sylvia Hatchell from 1995-1998. Walker didn't just play for Hatchell, but she helped North Carolina win three ACC Championships ('95, 1997, 1998). Walker's UNC teams fared well in their ensuing NCAA Tournament runs. The Tar Heels made the Sweet 16 in both 1995 and 1997, then ran to the Elite Eight in 1998. Jarin referenced his mom after Alabama's big victory over North Carolina during the ACC-SEC Challenge in December, saying "I've been to quite a bit of their (UNC) games. My mom (Nicole Walker Stevenson) played here too." Jarin's father, Jarod Stevenson, played his college ball at Richmond before a largely 20-plus-year international career. Cheering for your favorite childhood team brings one level of excitement, but playing for your favorite childhood team has to be surreal. Stevenson has a golden chance to turn the Tar Heels back into a consistent winner. While we don't know Stevenson's role yet, I have a strong feeling he'll start plenty of games in Carolina Blue – just like mom. How to watch South Carolina vs. Duke in women's Elite Eight matchup on Sunday afternoon How to watch South Carolina vs. Duke in women's Elite Eight matchup on Sunday afternoon Dawn Staley's South Carolina Gamecocks are one win away from a fifth consecutive Final Four berth. Kara Lawson can guide Duke to its biggest win in two decades by upsetting the reigning champs. Sunday's Elite Eight draw is a good one, with the second region's top two seeds dueling for Tampa. South Carolina is favored by several points, but the Blue Devils have been glowing down the stretch. Sophomore spark MiLaysia Fulwiley saved South Carolina's title defense last round, dropping 23 points in 21 bench minutes to shore up the comeback against Maryland. There was a lid on the rim for the rest of the squad; Raven Johnson, Bree Hall, Sania Feagin and Te-Hina Paopao combined to shoot an unsightly 4-for-23. 'Fullcourt Fulwiley' was in full effect to right the wrongs: The Gamecocks continue to win off their tremendous depth. Joyce Edwards and Chloe Kitts can each take over a game, the offensive rebounding and bench scoring are momentum-deflators and there are no real holes across this cohesive eight-player rotation. A stunner here would put them in their first Final Four since 2006, when Monique Currie led the program with her All-American turn. The Blue Devils advanced on the right side of a 47-38 Sweet 16 rock fight with archenemy UNC. Like South Carolina, Duke was buoyed by a leading scorer off the bench. Oluchi Okananwa hopped into a massive 12-12 double-double, correcting for duds from usually-reliable veterans Ashlon Jackson and Reigan Richardson. Jackson was in her bag the game prior, hitting five of nine tries behind the arc in the win over Oregon. Freshman Toby Fournier is looking like a future face of the college game, and it should be rewarding to watch her biggest test yet. These two sides last met in December's ACC-SEC Challenge, with the host Gamecocks winning, 81-70.
