Seattle Mariners draft Luke Stevenson

Luke Stevenson watched his childhood dreams come true during Sunday's MLB Draft. Call him 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞 😤Going to be rainin homers up there soon! #ProHeels | #TridentsUp Without Luke Stevenson behind the dish over the past two seasons, UNC doesn't get anywhere close to the College World Series. Stevenson, ranked as a Top 10 prospect coming out of Wake Forest (NC) High School in 2023, opted to play college baseball instead. Stevenson earned All-ACC Freshman honors in 2024, mashing .284 with 14 home runs, 58 RBIs and 48 walks – in 63 starts. Just two years later, the Tar Heels' star catcher watched his childhood dreams turn to reality. With the 35th overall pick in Sunday's MLB Draft, the Seattle Mariners chose Stevenson. Stevenson continued to showcase his strong defensive abilities this past season, recording 476 putouts and 44 assists, all while committing just two errors en route to First Team All-ACC Honors. The offensive highlight of Stevenson's sophomore campaign came during North Carolina's third ACC Tournament Championship in seven seasons, as Stevenson recorded two hits and five RBIs across three games, en route to MVP honors. Stevenson ends his two-year North Carolina career with a .267 batting average, 33 home runs and 116 RBIs. Add in a .543 slugging percentage, 107 walks, 987 putouts and a .996 fielding percentage, Stevenson gives Seattle a well-rounded catcher tough to find in professional baseball. The Mariners have two starting-caliber catchers currently in the MLB, including Home Run Derby participant and MVP candidate Cal Raleigh. Seattle has two catchers amongst its current Top 20 prospects, Henry Ford (#5) and Josh Caron (#19), so Stevenson has plenty of time to prove he's MLB-ready. If I had to guess Stevenson's landing spot later this summer, he'll head to the Modesto Nuts, who are the Mariners' Single-A Affiliate. Vance Honeycutt, whom the Baltimore Orioles chose in the first round during 2024's draft, took the exact same route last summer. What channel is UNC-Holy Cross on? Time, TV schedule for Chapel Hill Regional Opener

What channel is UNC-Holy Cross on? Time, TV schedule for Chapel Hill Regional Opener Here's all the broadcasting information you need to know for the UNC baseball team's NCAA Tournament opener against Holy Cross. The UNC baseball team is just moments away from kicking off its NCAA Tournament run, which begins Friday, May 30 against Holy Cross at 12 p.m. in the Chapel Hill Regional. North Carolina (42-12, 18-11), which finished third in a loaded ACC during the regular season, captured its ninth ACC Tournament Championship with a 14-4 drubbing of Clemson. The Diamond Heels enacted revenge on Florida State during the ACC Semis, winning 7-5 thanks to two ninth-inning runs, but not before taking care of Boston College during a 7-2 win. Holy Cross (31-25, 17-8) beat Army West Point twice, 12-1 and 8-7, to capture the Patriot League Championship. The Crusaders won't be a pushover, despite playing in a smaller conference – and will look to play spoiler in Chapel Hill. UNC, which should win today's game comfortably, has all the tools to make a deep run. North Carolina sports arguably the best pitching staff across college baseball, led by ACC Pitcher of the Year Jake Knapp, plus a starting lineup that generates the perfect combination of speed and power. The 2024 Diamond Heels composed an uber-talented squad, led by Vance Honeycutt, but nearly lost in their Chapel Hill Regional opener. Third baseman Gavin Gallaher played hero in against LIU in that nightcap, blasting a walk-off grand slam and keeping UNC in the winner's bracket. Heading to Boshamer Stadium today? Have a blast and fill the stands with Carolina Blue. Holy Cross did beat the likes of fellow NCAA Tournament teams Auburn and Binghamton, but don't have UNC's resume. North Carolina will run into some early hiccups, as I see most tournament favorites try to do too much early on, but settle down by the third inning and win comfortably. UNC baseball team stays in Top 5 of USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

UNC baseball team stays in Top 5 of USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll Can the Diamond Heels finally achieve college baseball immortality? You'll be hard-pressed to find a college baseball team playing better than UNC, which enters the NCAA Tournament with three consecutive wins and an ACC Tournament Championship in its back pocket. North Carolina (42-12, 18-11 ACC), which will host Oklahoma, Nebraska and Holy Cross in the Chapel Hill Regional starting Friday, is the fifth national seed. The Diamond Heels will begin their own Regional at 12 p.m. Friday, facing Patriot League Tournament Championship winner Holy Cross (31-25, 17-8). Just days ahead of its Regional opener, UNC received additional good news, finding itself atop the May 26 USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. Texas, LSU, Vanderbilt and Arkansas round out the Top Five, while Florida State is the only additional ACC team in the Top 10. Clemson (12) and Georgia Tech (16) also made the Top 25, while NC State dropped out after previously being ranked 24th. Rankings mean virtually nothing at this point in the season, but being the top-ranked team in one college baseball poll is quite the honor. North Carolina's focus is solely on beating Holy Cross this Friday, but it's difficult to not look ahead at the possibilities. UNC has not won consecutive Regionals since 2018 and 2019, or made consecutive College World Series Appearances since 2008 and 2009. The 2025 Diamond Heels are fully-equipped for a deep run, though, led by Player of the Year candidate Jake Knapp. If North Carolina wins Friday, they'll play the winner of Oklahoma and Nebraska on Saturday. UNC got a tough draw for its Chapel Hill Regional, but I have full confidence in a couple victories. UNC WLAX obliterates Florida in Final Four, advances to National Championship

UNC WLAX obliterates Florida in Final Four, advances to National Championship Can UNC cap off its perfect season on Sunday? The UNC women's lacrosse program is dominating virtually every opponent it crosses paths with in 2025, highlighted by 14 ranked victories, an undefeated regular season and ACC Tournament Championship. North Carolina earned the NCAA Tournament's top overall seed as a result, earning the right to host. The Tar Heels dominated their first two opponents at Fetzer Field, ACC rival Clemson (18-9) and Princeton (19-10), advancing to the Final Four. On Friday, UNC faced the Florida Gators in the day's first Final Four Matchup from Gillette Stadium. Florida eliminated North Carolina in both teams' 2024 NCAAT opener, so the Tar Heels entered Friday hoping to enact revenge. UNC didn't just enact revenge, but completely obliterate the Gators. Trailing 4-2 after the first quarter, North Carolina scored 18 unanswered goals – and didn't allow another one through the remaining three frames – en route to a 20-4 victory. The Tar Heels advance to their sixth NCAA Championship game in program history, which they'll play Sunday at 12 p.m. against the Northwestern Wildcats. UNC (21-0) did so many things well Friday night, including shutting Florida out across the final three quarters, but attack took the headlines. Chloe Humphrey, North Carolina's superstar freshman, scored a game-high seven goals. As a result, Humphrey now holds the Tar Heels' single-season goal record with 86, passing Jamie Ortega. As I mentioned previously, UNC trailed 4-2 after the first period, causing many viewers to think a close game was on hand. North Carolina broke the game open with a 10-goal second period, though, with Humphrey scoring the eventual game-winner. The Tar Heels will try for their fourth National Championship in program history on Sunday, hoping to cap off an undefeated season. Notre Dame baseball finds out its path to an ACC Tournament Championship

Notre Dame baseball finds out its path to an ACC Tournament Championship Notre Dame baseball has gotten hot towards the end of the 2025 season, but there is still work to do to make the NCAA Tournament. Due to its late season push and early struggles, the Irish aren't getting a favorable draw in the ACC Tournament, as they finished with a 14-16 conference record. That was good for the No. 11 seed, as they'll take on No. 14 Boston College in the first-round on Tuesday night. Notre Dame lost its series against the Eagles in early April, winning just one of the three on the road. If they win, the Irish would have the No. 6 seed Virginia waiting for them. These two teams did not face-off against each other during the regular season. North Carolina awaits them the following round, if Notre Dame can get that far. They'll need at least two more wins to potentially convince the NCAA selection committee to put them in the field. Hopefully Notre Dame has another run in them, starting with the Eagles.
