Today, we log into a mythic chat room for A Date With Death . RELATED: Check out our F2P Friday archives A Date With Death You're just an ordinary person, except that for your entire life, you've been narrowly avoiding death. You'd always considered yourself extremely lucky until one night when a strange program suddenly appeared on your computer, and someone claiming to be the Grim Reaper said he's come for your soul. Your life as you know it is thrown upside down. As you delve deeper into the mysterious man that calls himself the Grim Reaper, you begin to wonder if fate brought you two together for a reason. Can you resist his charm, or will you fall for the one destined to take your soul? RELATED: May's Most Anticipated Video Games The Basics Let's get down to the basics of A Date With Death by Two and a Half Studios. A Date with Death is a supernatural romance, chat simulator, and visual novel about the week-long bet you enter against the Grim Reaper to attempt to keep your soul. Create your own character, from appearance to pronouns, decorate your apartment and spend the (possible) last week of your life getting to know the one hunting for your soul. The gameplay comprises two main elements: character customization and dialogue. Often in visual novels, there is either no image of the protagonist or players have little to no input on them so the in-depth customization is an impressive addition. Players have control of their physical appearance, their pronouns, and their name, which can be updated throughout the game if needed. Visual novels are made great in their dialogue, and A Date With Death excels at building interesting characters and a compelling world through the chat options. Chatting with Grim reveals that your virtual date is snarky, but reading his replies builds a natural, believable conversation that is the basis for a great dating sim. RELATED: Fields of Mistria Is Finally Getting a Dating Mechanic Why Should I Play? So why should you play A Date With Death ? I went into this game not assuming much, only to have any expectations I did have, blown away. If you are a fan of the dating sim genre or well-written visual novels, this is a must-play. The art is beautifully stylized, which creates a charming world and impressive character models. Several mini-games break up the days between chat sessions, and though they don't add to the story, they are remarkably well done anyway. The game is short but memorable and even worth a replay to explore the branching endings. This game is free , but if you would like to support the creator, there is a paid DLC that expands the lore and gives you a little more time with Grim Reaper. If you are ready to log on and chat with Death, you can download A Date With Death to play for free on Steam and F2P Friday: Razzopolis
