AFL refuses to rule out whether rapper Snoop Dogg will lead pre-game entertainment at 2025 Grand Final

It would be tha shiznit. Rumours are swirling that Snoop Dogg will drop it like it's hot for the pre-game entertainment at this year's AFL grand final. But the AFL is refusing to say whether the talk is fo' shizzle. The speculation started after Melbourne radio host Ross Stevenson told 3AW's Rumour File 'it had been suggested' the 53-year-old would headline the game at the MCG on September 27. 'It has been suggested to me that the Grand Final entertainment this year will be Snoop Dogg,' he told the show last week. AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon dismissed rumours at a press conference on Tuesday. But promised fans they could expect 'big acts'. 'The Grand Final entertainment is important,' he said. 'So many people care about it and we're going to have a big act that we'll be announcing relatively soon.' AFL spokesperson Jay Allen dodged questions about the rapper and said pre-game entertainment announcement would be imminent. 'The pre-game entertainment at the AFL Grand Final is always a talking point and we're hoping to make an announcement shortly,' he told The West Australian. 'We are excited to deliver another world class show in front of 100,000 fans at the 'G and the millions more watching the broadcast ahead of the biggest game of the season.' Best known for his hits Drop It Like It's Hot and Gin and Juice, Snoop made music history after headlining the 2022 Super Bowl LVI halftime show with other hip-hop greats Dr Dre, Eminem, Mary J Blige and Kendrick Lamar. The rapper has been at the centre of various controversies, including claims he sexually assaulted a woman after one of his concerts in 2013. Snoop last toured Australia in 2023 as part of his 'I Wanna Thank Me' tour.

Fans let rip as Snoop Dogg AFL grand final rumour goes viral

As the AFL season races to the pointy end, multiple reports are suggesting controversial US rapper Snoop Dogg will be the headline act on grand final day. In fact, AFL great Brendan Fevola said 'I can tell you 100 per cent' that Snoop Dogg — 'a bloke who's been banned from the country' — will be appearing at the AFL's showpiece event. And 3AW host Ross Stevenson also said it had has 'been suggested' to him that the 53-year-old rapper was the chosen one, along with Dr Dre. As the story went viral, fans reacted on social media with many, including Fevola, not happy. 'It will be an epic fail,' Fevola brutally declared on The Fox's Fifi, Fev & Nick, however, his co-host Fifi Box was not on board. 'I love Snoop. That excites me, but he doesn't ... I'm interested to see how that'll go on the day,' Box said. Fevola: 'Not for me ... he's gonna have to smoke like a joint. He's gonna have to do some real radical stuff (to get the crowd going). 'But I just think it's a fail ... we did hear Foo Fighters. That would have been amazing. You want sing-along (songs). Kids aren't going to the MCG (for Snoop).' Last year Katy Perry was considered a roaring success and fans were also blown away by high-energy acts in KISS and Robbie Williams in 2023 and 2022. But the announcement of Snoop has also left fans cold, with many highlighting his reputation for drug use and misogynistic lyrics. 'I've kind of done everything I can to avoid exposing my kids to this culture, why do the AFL want to,' one fan said. 'AFL always respects women,' another said And another: 'Embarrassing decision. He's terrible now. Australia is the only place that gives him the time of day. The Menulog GF. 🤦‍♂️.' And another: 'Some dude well past his used by date ... Honestly Is there no current local band in these shores that could whip up a storm? This is the best we can do ???? AFL still haven't learnt their lesson from Meat Loaf.' And another: 'Why does Meat Loaf immediately spring to mind? And another: 'I love Snoop and have seen him live twice. Let me put it like this - if you are trying to get someone to rival Meat Loaf as the worst ever choice for GF entertainment, he is your man. PS. Do the AFL have any idea what he sings about? 😀' While another said: 'Hope they can hand out enough weed so we can all enjoy the show🥴.' And another: 'Seriously, AFL?? You couldn't actually find some real Aussie talent for the 2025 AFL Grand Final pre-game entertainment?? Typical ... 🙄. The AFL did not confirm the Snoop Dogg story but said they were hoping to make announcement soon. 'The pre-game entertainment at the AFL grand final is always a talking point, and we're hoping to make an announcement shortly,' a spokesperson said. 'We are excited to deliver another world-class show in front of 100,000 fans at the MCG, and the millions more watching the broadcast ahead of the biggest game of the season.'

Eagles to farewell premiership heroes in Crows clash

West Coast have announced their plan to honour recently retired premiership heroes Dom Sheed and Jeremy McGovern as the Eagles hope to give the pair a 'rousing blue and gold send off.' Eagles fans will get a final chance to see the pair on the Optus Stadium turf, with the CEO Don Pyke announcing they will be thanked for the service in next round's home game against Adelaide. McGovern was forced into medical retirement following repeat concussions on June 20, with Sheed retiring less than two weeks later after an ACL injury suffered in the pre-season. Pyke admits it will be a 'bittersweet' farewell. 'Before the season draws to a close, we will recognise two of our retiring premiership greats – Jeremy McGovern and Dom Sheed,' he said in an open letter to fans. 'It is always bittersweet to farewell such wonderful people and players, and both Jeremy and Dom should be incredibly proud of the significant contributions they have made to our Club. 'Both are Life Members of our Club, and they will forever be inextricably linked as the bookends of that famous match-winning passage of play in the 2018 Grand Final. Adelaide has become a regular opponent for the Eagles to honour retiring greats with Luke Shuey, Shannon Hurn and Nic Naitanui all being acknowledged during their round 23 clash against the Crows in 2023. The season prior, Josh Kennedy played his final game, kicking eight goals against them in a memorable send-off. It comes as Pyke thanked Eagles fans for their staunch support during what has been another tough season with the club passing 100,000 members for the sixth consecutive year. 'The loyalty of so many West Coast Eagles families is something truly special and deserves to be celebrated,' he said. 'I want to sincerely thank you for your passion and commitment. These past few seasons have tested us all, but through every challenge, you've kept showing up. 'We know we have a lot of work to do to lift ourselves back up the ladder, but we believe in the path we are on and appreciate your support.'
