Has the AFL Grand Final act been leaked? Huge US rock band with controversial lead singer rumoured to be playing at this year's event
The 2025 AFL Grand Final is set to kick off on September 27, and the highly anticipated entertainment for the sporting event may have just been leaked. According to 104.7 Triple M star Mark 'Roo' Ricciuto, whispers in AFL circles suggest the Foo Fighters is the top billing for the event. 'A little birdie let it slip to me in AFL circles the last couple of days that the Foo Fighters might be the entertainment in 2025,' he said on Wednesday. 'Now it's not a done deal. I haven't investigated... This is not 100% but it's a bloody good chance.' Roo's co-stars did their own digging, with Chris 'Ditts' Dittmar and Laura 'Loz' O'Callaghan sharing their own theories on why they think the Foo Fighters will be coming to town. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'The Foo Fighters are going to be playing the Singapore Grand Prix a week after the Grand Final. So they're in the region,' Loz said. 'Then they're going to be doing a world tour [later this year].' Loz then pointed to UK megastar Robbie Williams playing the AFL Grand Final in 2022 to push ticket sales for his XXV Tour that same year. An AFL Grand Final performance and subsequent world tour will be a change of pace for Foo Fighters frontman Dave, 56, who has recently been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Dave landed in hot water with wife Jordyn Blum when it was revealed he welcomed a love child with Jennifer Young, a 38-year-old LA-based, Florida-born rock-and-roll fan in August last year. The following month, he posted a public mea culpa admitting to his affair. However, it would seem Dave and Jordyn, who share three daughters together, are attempting to make their marriage work, as they were spotted on a family outing together in May as they celebrated Jordyn's 49th birthday. It marked the first time the family had been seen together following Dave's affair bombshell. A source told US Weekly in March the couple are giving their 22-year marriage another go. They said: 'Jordyn has forgiven Dave and is trying to move on. She is [still] completely devastated by the situation but is standing by his side. 'They are going to counselling, and Dave has been doing anything he can to win back Jordyn's trust. Neither of them wants the family broken.' Jennifer was confirmed to be the mother of Dave's child in February, Page Six reported. Jennifer also confirmed to the outlet her baby was born on August 1, 2024, and she said Dave's last name is listed on the birth certificate. She did not want to reveal their daughter's name, telling the outlet 'because there's some really angry fans,' adding that 'protecting her identity is really important'. She lives with her mother in Los Angeles, and often takes their daughter for walks in their neighbourhood. A source told People magazine in November 2024 that Dave is focused on working things out with Jordyn and their daughters, and that divorce is off the table. The source said: 'He's no longer working with a divorce attorney and instead hoping to work things out with his wife.' Another insider said he 'loves his family', noting he has 'been prioritising his family. He knows he messed up. It's one of those situations where you don't realise what you have done until you're about to lose it. He doesn't want to lose his family.' Multiple sources have claimed Jordyn has known about the baby 'for a while', and said she is a 'great mum and very dedicated to their daughters'. Jordyn and Dave share daughters Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10. They were seen in the car together after Jordyn picked him up from an LA area home. Neither appeared to be wearing wedding rings at the time.

Harbour City gains unexpected cheerleader in Melbourne's lord mayor
One immutable fundamental of federation relations that founded the Commonwealth of Australia – state-on-state rivalry – was upended recently when Nick Reece, lord mayor of Melbourne, undertook a whistle-stop tour of Sydney ... and liked it. 'Sydney and Melbourne are the two best cities in the world!' Reece said glowingly of the northern metropolis on a LinkedIn post (but not in an official media release, as far as we could tell). Talk about undermining 124 years of slow burn resentment towards the Harbour City nurtured by our bitter, envious friends to the south. Reece also blew smoke in the direction of some of NSW's most prominent power players (though the state's unofficial premier, Peter V'landys, was missing). NSW Premier Chris Minns was 'a seriously smart guy … he also has an incredible knowledge of rugby league'. But Reece kept it real, musing that Minns might be lucky enough to score an invitation to the AFL Grand Final, which will be a non-event to most Sydneysiders, what with the Swans' season of woe. Loading Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore was a 'legend' who had 'copped a bit over the years' but was someone who deserves 'huge credit for her vision and determination'. He also name-checked Business Sydney's Paul Nicolau and Crown Resorts chairman John Borghetti, and mused that Melbourne had 'much to learn' from the Vivid festival, which should send chills down the spine of our snobbier southern neighbours. Still, Reece managed to straddle a line between enthusiastic guest and Melbourne advocate, ready to heap praise on his hometown. So when meeting hospitality baron Justin Hemmes, he cannily pointed out that while he loved his tour of The Ivy, the billionaire manbun's biggest project was Parkade in Melbourne, the next target of Merivale's imperial ambitions.

'Have it removed': AFL legend Sam Newman declares he could be forced to amputate his pain-stricken foot as there are 'not many alternatives left'
AFL legend Sam Newman has declared he could be forced to amputate his foot. The media personality, 79, is weighing the impossible decision amid chronic pain in his right ankle, a result of several injuries sustained during his decorated AFL career and the wear and tear of an active life. In 2021, Newman underwent ankle fusion surgery, which joined his ankle bones together to form one bone. He had more surgery in March to replace his ankle with a metal joint in a Melbourne hospital. Last week, Newman underwent a third surgery to insert screws near his joint. As he recovers from the procedure in his Melbourne home, the AFL legend said he hopes it was the last of his effort to be finally pain-free. Otherwise, Newman said amputation could be a last resort as he is now running out of viable alternatives to salvage his chronic ankle condition. 'There are not that many alternatives left," he told The Herald Sun on Sunday. 'It is not practicable to walk around with the pain as it is, it is not practicable to take pain killers all the rest of your life. 'The other viable option is to have it removed, amputated." Newman said amputation would be a "pretty drastic" measure, and before that occurs, he will wait to see whether his latest surgery was effective. He said he would not have undergone the operations unless they were "necessary" and hopes to be at least "reasonably pain-free" as a result. Newman's ankle has deteriorated rapidly over the past two years to the point he can't walk more than 50 metres. It comes after he suffered multiple ankle injuries while playing 300 games for Geelong from 1964 through 1980. His health issues include a portion of his kidney being removed after a semi-final clash against Collingwood in 1967 and a head injury as a result of a botched stunt on The Footy Show. Newman's health took a further dip in 2008 when he was treated for prostate cancer and was cleared of the disease after an operation. If all goes well after his latest ankle surgery, the active 79-year-old hopes to embark on a caravan trip with his friend Sue Stanley in six weeks. Newman and Stanley plan to travel up the coast and then venture inland for more than three months ahead of the AFL Grand Final in September. He has recently been frequently seen out at events with the fitness queen, and they sailed from Coffs Harbour to Melbourne last year, remaining in high spirits despite their steering rod snapping mid-journey. Nevertheless, Newman insists the pair are just friends. 'I am very happy to say I am a friend of hers and she is a friend of mine, but that is it,' he told News Corp in 2023. 'She is a girl friend of mine and that is two separate words: girl friend, not a girlfriend.' Newman's fourth wife Amanda Brown died unexpectedly of an aneurysm and a stroke in 2021.

AFL flag winner Xavier Ellis' devastating chat with Geelong great Joel Selwood after brother Adam's death
Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL. Followed categories will be added to My News. Former Hawthorn and West Coast midfielder Xavier Ellis has given an insight into the devastation gripping himself and the Selwood family after Adam's death on Saturday. Just three months after his twin brother Troy took his own life, Adam Selwood died on Saturday at the age of 41, leading to a heartbreaking response across the footy world. FOX FOOTY, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every match of every round in the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season LIVE in 4K, with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Ellis, 37, the third pick in the 2005 AFL Draft, won a flag with the Hawks in 2008 before spending the final three seasons of his career in Perth with the Eagles. He played 120 AFL games, including losing grand finals in 2012 and 2015, before retiring in 2016. A regular in the Perth media scene after his playing career, Ellis grew up with the Selwood family. Adam and Scott Selwood were the only people he knew when he joined the Eagles from Hawthorn ahead of the 2014 AFL season. Xavier Ellis (left) competing in the 2015 AFL Grand Final. Picture: Wayne Ludbey Having taken a few days off after the news of Adam's death, Ellis returned to his role on Triple M Breakfast with Xav and Katie on Wednesday to give his thoughts on the awful situation that has again devastated the Selwood family. Ellis has spoken to Geelong great Joel Selwood since the tragedy and caught up with Scott Selwood on Sunday. 'Waking up on Saturday to some missed calls and learning about the mental health tragedy of a friend of mine, Adam Selwood,' Ellis began. 'Over my time in the media, the Selwood boys have been in here many times. 'I've done this media stuff for about a decade now and I've made it really clear the love and admiration I have for that family. 'I idolise them and have since I was the age of 12, Joel was my first ever captain as a 14-year-old. The Selwood brothers, (left to right) Scott, Joel, Adam and Troy. 'He was a close friend, someone I admire so deeply. Moving to Perth, I knew no one other than Joel's brother who was on the West Coast list, Scooter (Scott), who was living with Adam at the time. 'They really helped me when I first arrived and Scooter, having a beer with him on Sunday night and seeing him and how empty that poor man is. '(Parents) Bryce and Maree are family friends, we went to Ireland as kids, they're beautiful people. 'You think of those Selwood boys, when they play footy they put a cape on those boys. They're tough, they're brave. 'Well Bryce and Maree are that as parents every day and night. They're just wonderful people.' Ellis also opened up on a conversation he had with Joel Selwood, the 355-game, four-time premiership winner during his 15 years with the Cats. Joel Selwood was one of the toughest players in the game. (Photo by Matt Roberts/AFL Photos/via Getty Images) Renowned as one of the toughest players in the AFL during his glittering career, Joel was understandably emotional during the chat, according to Ellis. The radio host was also desperate to use his platform to send a message about mental health in Australia. 'Calling Joel over the weekend, just hearing his voice break. You know that 'bulletproof' Joel Selwood, he's not, and mental health doesn't discriminate,' he said. 'Targeting men and young men, it's a time now where (mental health charity) 'R U OK DAY', I think it's deeper than that. 'It's so easy to deflect a question 'are you OK?' It's time to grab a scalpel and really dissect the person you're asking. You'd rather be a persistent pain in the arse than a shallow arse who's just moved on and you've ticked the box. 'So if you have got someone you're concerned about, you've got to grab that life jacket and jump in the water with them because they're drowning inside. 'I guarantee there's someone in your friendship group that is in a way of struggle.' There have been a number of tributes to Adam since his death, including a minute's silence prior to West Coast's clash with St Kilda on Sunday. In a heartbreaking set of circumstances, Adam planned to take part in this week's HBF Run for a Reason — in support of the zero2hero charity — and called it one of the things that 'kept him going' after his brother's death. The Run for a Reason half marathon will take place on Sunday, May 25, and Selwood will be in the hearts of many that run the course in Perth. In a touching twist, more than $4000 was donated to Selwood's zero2hero campaign on Saturday night — taking his total money raised to more than $25,000. The latest tragedy left AFL great and Sydney Swans Hall of Famer Tadhg Kennelly fearing more incident like this are inevitable as the game battles a mental health crisis. Kennelly said Adam Selwood's shock passing, just months after his twin brother Troy took his own life, is 'an absolute tragedy'. 'The Selwood family have been one of the cornerstones of the game of AFL and have given everything to it,' Kennelly told 'Joel, Scott, Adam and Troy are the embodiment of grit, humility and heart. They were raised on the values of loyalty, strength and brotherhood. It's heartbreaking for the family, it's heartbreaking for AFL and it's heartbreaking for the country.' (Photo by Michael Willson/AFL Photos via Getty Images) During Wednesday morning's show on Triple M, Ellis detailed a conversation with a listener who was dealing with mental health issues and how he was trying to help him, even giving the man his mobile phone number. Ellis was fighting back tears as he made an impassioned plea to check on those around you. 'Take the deep dive with your friends because I just sat there yesterday and saw the Selwoods and the devastation between those brothers, who I call my closest friends, and Bryce and Maree,' he said. 'It's just a tragic thing that no one should have to live through and I haven't got much more to add, just try to find the mate that's really struggling and try to help them and reassure them there are ways. 'You won't have the answers, but you can certainly ask the right questions.' Originally published as Xavier Ellis' devastating Joel Selwood chat after brother Adam's death
