Setback for women's relay team due to doping, injury pull out
New Delhi: India's 4x400 women's relay team has been rocked by a doping scandal and injury withdrawal on the eve of the Asian Athletics Championships starting in Gumi, South Korea, from Tuesday. Sneha Kolleri, who was part of women's 4x400m women's and mixed relay squads, has returned positive for stanozolol in a test conducted by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). On Monday, AIU confirmed her positive test and informed that the athlete was provisionally suspended on May 23. It has been learnt that she was tested by AIU during the World Relays Championships in Guangzhou, China two weeks back. Sneha competed in mixed relay (4x400m) in which India failed to qualify for the world championships. Before she could board the flight to Gumi, Athletics Federation of India (AFI) withdrew Sneha from the team. It has been learnt that another member of the relay squad Sandramol Sabu has also pulled out due to injury. She has not travelled with the team to South Korea. That leaves only four members -- Rupal Chaudhary, Subha Venkatesan, Jisna Mathew, and Kunja Rajitha -- for the women's relay (4x400m) and mixed relay competitions. Sneha was part of the national camp (for relay teams) at the National Centre of Excellence in Trivandrum. Her personal best of 53 seconds in 400m came this year at the National Federation Championships in Kochi last month, where she won bronze medal. She was part of both the women's and mixed relays squads at the Asian Championships. Aishwarya Mishra, who has the season's best of 51.12s, was not selected in the team as she did not compete in the Federation Cup. Rupal has the next best timing of 52.41s, followed by Vithya Ramraj (52.81s). Sneha has the fourth best timing this season while Subha Venkatesan (53.35s) is sixth in the list. The Indian relay teams are yet to qualify for the world championships. This is the third high profile case of doping this season. Earlier Hangzhou Asian Games 10,000m silver medallist Kartik Kumar and javelin thrower Shivpal Singh failed dope tests. Also, AFI junior team coach N Ramesh was suspended by NADA on charges of 'complicity.' AIU on revealed on Monday that another Indian athlete -- Varsha Tekam, who participated in the National Cross Country Championships in January, has been suspended for evading/refusing to submit sample.

Boycott Turkey Impact: One move by India destroys this Turkish company; suffers Rs 17000000000 loss in just 24 hours; company is...
Turkey had backed Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, in which India carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Soon, the Boycott Turkey movement in India started growing, thereby leading to a sharp decline in the sale of Turkish goods, causing its nation to face economic setbacks. Moreover, the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has urged all Indian universities to cancel academic collaborations with institutions in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Turkey in the wake of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. According to an ANI report, in a letter dated May 15, the AIU asked vice-chancellors across India to terminate all Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with institutions in these three countries. The AIU cited the support extended by Bangladesh and Turkey to Pakistan as the basis for the move. Turkish companies operating in India are also facing the heat due to the Boycott Turkey trend. One such example is Çelebi Aviation, a Turkish ground-handling service provider. Recently, the Indian government revoked Çelebi Aviation's security clearance with immediate effect. According to the news agency PTI report, on May 19, the Centre said the decision to revoke clearance was taken in the interest of national security in light of certain inputs that continuing the services of the petitioner companies would be hazardous in the current scenario. Celebi, operating in the Indian aviation sector for over 15 years and employing over 10,000 people, offers its services at nine airports. The impact was swift and severe: within just two days, the company's valuation dropped by nearly one-third. As per AajTak report, the move has also put the jobs of around 3,800 employees at risk, raising concerns over possible large-scale layoffs. Bureau of Civil Aviation Safety (BCAS) on May 15 revoked the security clearance, days after Turkey backed Pakistan and condemned India's strikes on terror camps in the neighbouring country. BCAS, in its order, said, '… the security clearance in r/o Celebi Airport Services India Pvt Ltd is hereby revoked with immediate effect in the interest of national security.' The security clearance to the company, part of Turkey's Celebi, was given in November 2022. Before this boycott, leading travel companies like EaseMyTrip, MakeMyTrip, and Ixigo issued advisories recommending travelers to avoid visiting Turkey and Azerbaijan. Following the Indian government's decision, Çelebi Aviation faced a sharp financial setback, losing nearly $200 million (approx. Rs 1,700 crore) in just one day. On May 16, the company's shares on the Istanbul Stock Exchange fell by 20%, sliding 222 points to close at 2,002 liras. This decline reduced the company's market capitalization by 4.8 billion liras (around Rs 10,700 crores), marking a 30% drop from its 52-week high.

AIU Urges Universities To End Ties With Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey Over Geopolitical Tensions
Last Updated: The Association of Indian Universities has called on vice-chancellors to sever academic ties with institutions in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Turkey due to geopolitical tensions. The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has written to all vice-chancellors across the country, urging them to terminate academic collaborations with institutions in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Turkey. The directive was issued through an official letter dated May 15, 2025, as per ANI report. Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General of AIU, stated that the appeal was made in response to ongoing geopolitical tensions. 'Our Armed Forces are fighting on the borders. We academicians also need to fight at the universities," Mittal told ANI. 'Certain countries like Bangladesh and Turkey have supported Pakistan. So we wrote a letter on May 15 to all universities and appealed to them to cancel all the MoUs they have with Bangladesh and Pakistan. There is no point in having academic ties with enemy countries," she further added. According to AIU, several universities have already responded to the appeal by cancelling Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the mentioned countries. The AIU's advisory follows a series of recent moves by top Indian institutions to sever academic ties with Turkish universities in response to Turkey's open support for Pakistan amid escalating tensions with India. Last week, IIT Bombay suspended all partnerships with Turkish institutions. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) also suspended its MoU with Turkey's Inonu University, while Jamia Millia Islamia has halted all academic collaboration with Turkish universities, citing national security concerns. IIT Roorkee, too, officially withdrew from its MoU with Inonu University. The move has sparked debate in academic circles, with some supporting the decision as a patriotic stance, while others express concern over the implications for research, academic freedom, and international collaboration.
