Kansas City Chiefs WR Jalen Royals reveals the wideouts he watches most in the NFL

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Utah State wide receiver Jalen Royals in the fourth round with the 133rd pick in last weekend's draft, adding a dynamic playmaking receiver for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. On Saturday, he spoke with reporters at rookie camp and shared his mindset for the weekend and players he admired watching in the NFL. "I try to watch everybody. (Rams WR) Davante Adams, (Eagles WR) A.J. Brown, the big receivers," said Royals, "You try to piggyback off what they do and try to implement that into my game." Advertisement During the 2024 season, Royals was named second-team All-Mountain West. He led Utah State with 55 receptions, 834 receiving yards, and tallied six touchdowns while starting seven games. He listed some of the top receivers in the game today, but understands the hard work ahead of him starting this weekend at Rookie camp. "Just taking it one step at a time, taking it day-by-day," said Royals, "I know it's the first day, but just trying to come in and work and take it step-by-step." Royals has garnered comparisons to starting receiver Rashee Rice for their similar play, as he hopes to mirror his production on the field in 2025. Where do you stand on the 'tush push'? Is it simply a fair play that the Philadelphia Eagles have perfected, putting the burden on defenses to figure out how to stop it? Is it an unsportsmanlike gimmick that puts the safety of players at risk? Or do you fall in the camp of A.J. Brown, the Eagles receiver who said, 'I don't have any thoughts on it. It's only 1 yard.' Advertisement No matter where you fall, you can't deny that the NFL's vote on whether to ban the play was a big deal this week. Ultimately, the measure fell two votes short, giving Jalen Hurts and the Eagles at least one more year to terrorize their foes. And at least one more year for all of us to talk about the play's merits. Luckily, that's not all we're focused on in this week's news quiz, as there were plenty of interesting stories taking center stage. Jalen Hurts breaks silence on Donald Trump snub after Eagles White House visit

Jalen Hurts has broken his silence after he missed the Eagles' White House visit last month. Hurts, Philly's Super Bowl MVP as they beat the Chiefs in February, was one of several Eagles players to skip out on meeting President Donald Trump because of 'scheduling conflicts' as NBC News's Yamiche Alcindor reported at the time. And this week, the quarterback expanded upon his decision to not attend the April 28 trip. 'I wasn't available,' he told reporters. 'I don't think that's pertinent. Everyone who went, and was available, they seemed to enjoy themselves.' Hurts was far from the only Eagles star to miss the trip, as the likes of A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Jalen Carter were also not in attendance. All told, NBC Sports' John Clark said that less than half of the team's starters were there. Hurts gave a pretty strong clue ahead of the White House visit that he would not be in attendance, as he was asked during an interview with TIME if he was planning on going to DC for the trip. His teammate Saquon Barkley spent time with President Trump before and during the visit 'Ermmmm,' he said before staying silent, prompting an abrupt and awkward end to the interview. Meanwhile, star running back Saquon Barkley, offensive lineman Lane Johnson and head coach Nick Sirianni were among those in attendance, as well as owner Jeffrey Lurie and chief security officer and senior advisor to the GM 'Big' Dom DiSandro. Barkley even spent time with Trump at his Trump National golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey during the weekend propr and traveled with the President on Marine One. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, who also attended, insisted beforehand that every player would be given the choice of whether to attend or not. 'Our culture is that these are optional things,' Lurie said. 'If you want to enjoy this, come along and we'll have a great time and if you don't, it is totally an optional thing.' The Eagles' visit to the White House this year comes after the team did not make the trip after winning Super Bowl LII 2018. That time, after defeating the Patriots, it had emerged that only a handful of players were planning to attend. Trump, then in his first term as president, proceeded to cancel the visit. The Eagles' hesitancy to attend in that instance came after Trump took aim at players who had protested during the national anthem, a group of players which included Eagles Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod. However, Trump enjoyed a more positive relationship with the league's players this past season, as the likes of Brock Bowers, Calvin Ridley and Nick Bosa did the 'Trump dance ' during games.

Eagles are happy for Nick Sirianni, even though nobody knows details of coach's new contract

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A day after Super Bowl champion coach Nick Sirianni was rewarded by the Eagles with a contract extension, Philadelphia players spoke with reporters on Tuesday for the first time since winning the title and said the deal was well-deserved — even though nobody has disclosed the length or dollar amount. The Eagles refused to reveal the terms, and even the most inside of insiders didn't have the contract details. 'I'm not going to get into the details of any of that stuff. Sorry, I don't want to,' Sirianni said Tuesday. Sirianni is 48-20 in four seasons with Philadelphia. He also led the Eagles to the Super Bowl in the 2022 season, when they lost to Kansas City. The Eagles rebounded from a 2-2 start to finish the 2024 season on a 16-1 run, including the playoffs and the victorious Super Bowl rematch with the Chiefs. Sirianni, who turns 44 next month, is the first head coach in NFL history to earn four playoff appearances, two conference titles and a Super Bowl in his first four years. Asked about when he might retire from football, star receiver AJ Brown referenced Sirianni's deal and said, 'I'm done when he's done.' So, how long is that? 'How long is his extension?' Brown asked. Quarterback Jalen Hurts, who started in both Super Bowls for Sirianni, offered his congratulations. Offensive tackle Jordan Maliata recalled the time Sirianni used a flower analogy to illustrate to the team that the foundation is being built and that the roots are growing. 'Think about that time ... when he talked about the flower,' Maliata said. 'Now I just want to give him his flowers. He's done a phenomenal job. A phenomenal job building the culture of this locker room. Was it a multi-year contract? Does anyone know what it was worth?' If anyone does, they're not saying. White House aftermath Hurts and Brown were two prominent Eagles who declined President Donald Trump's invitation for the team to celebrate its championship with a White House visit. Saquon Barkley led the bulk of Eagles who made the trip to Washington on April 28. 'I wasn't available,' Hurts said Tuesday. 'I don't think that's pertinent. Everyone who went, and was available, they seemed to enjoy themselves.' Asked by a reporter on the red carpet of a Time magazine gala — where he was honored as one of the 100 most influential people of 2025 — whether he would visit the White House, Hurts responded with an awkward 'um' and long silence before walking away. Hurts did find time to attend the Met Gala on May 5. Brown was also vague about his decision not to meet the president. 'I had a personal reason I was dealing with that day,' Brown said. 'It wasn't about politics, or who's in the office or anything. I just had something personal.' During his first term, Trump invited the Eagles in 2018 after the franchise's first Super Bowl title. After it became clear most players weren't going to show up, he canceled the event and instead threw his own, brief 'Celebration of America.' ___ AP NFL:

Altogether, more than a dozen players missed the celebration including star wide receiver A.J. Brown. Brown spoke to the media on Tuesday and explained why he did not join the team. Brown told Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer that his absence was not political. "I had a personal thing that I had to take care of that day," Brown explained. AJ Brown admits he had personal reasons for not attending an event Brown insisted that he was not there to make a point or pass some sort of message. "It wasn't political," he told the press. He never disclosed what the "personal thing" was, but stated that it mattered to him. Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie also commented on the visit previously. He said that attending the White House event was completely up to players. 'I had a personal reason I was dealing with that day. It wasn't about politics or who is in office or anything. I just had something personal going on with my family', he said, and most in the league agree. Players receive invitations but are never required to go. That policy permitted players to decide what was in their own best interests. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Did You Know Luxury Hotel Prices in 2025 Could Be So Low? There may have been prior engagements, and there may have been a wish to avoid the spotlight. AJ Brown and other players have many reasons for skipping White House visits Avoiding a White House visit is not new in the NFL. Players on numerous teams in the past have also avoided it for personal, political, or even private reasons. Some have been quiet about it, and some have been open about it in interviews or on social media, explaining their reasons. In his case, A.J. Brown did not denounce the visit or the visitors. He simply didn't show up and made sure everybody knew it was his decision. No hard feelings, no theatrics. And that's just fine. NFL players, like everyone else, don't owe anyone an explanation of their personal decisions if they don't feel like doing so. The Eagles will be a perennial contender next year, and everyone anticipates they'll be one of the top teams once again. Most people believe they have a good shot at getting to the Super Bowl. If they make a push for it next year, there's a safe bet that they'll be back in the White House once again. Also Read: Eagles Star A.J.
