Eight-cylinders return as Mercedes-AMG prices long awaited SL 63

Soft-top sibling of the AMG GT will still get from 0-100 km/h in four seconds and hit a top sped of 315 km/h. Mercedes-AMG has finally added to the SL63 to its line-up in South Africa. Image: Mercedes-AMG Its line-up having remained stagnent since the arrival of the four-cylinder '43' almost two years ago, Mercedes-AMG has finally confirmed pricing of the '63' variant of the new SL. No electric assistance Shown as far back as 2021, the first ever AMG-developed SL sits opposite the coupe-only AMG GT as being offered solely with a fabric roof-top roof that opens and closes in a Z-pattern in 15 seconds at up to 60 km/h. Despite the availability of the entry-level eight-cylinder SL 55 and the range-topping plug-in hybrid SL 63 S revealed at the end of 2023, the mid-spec SL 63 will for now top the local range with outputs of 430kW/800Nm from its non-electrically assisted 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8. Fabric roof opens and closes in 15 seconds up to 60 km/h. Image: Mercedes-AMG Paired to the nine-speed MCT transmission, with the 4Matic+ system sending the amount of twist to all four corners, the SL 63 will get from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and a hit top speed of 315 km/h. Spec As in Europe, South African models have the option of alloy wheels ranging from 19 to 21-inches, although in a departure, the rear-axle steering system has been fitted as standard and not as an option. Also included are the Digital LED headlights, the Airscarf neck warmers integrated into the headrests of the front seats, the adaptive Active Ride Control dampers and the electronic limited slip differential. In total, the AMG Dynamic Select system offers six modes; Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual and a first-time Race mode not available on the SL 43 or the SL 55. Bar the obvious move to right-hand-drive, the interior has not been changed from the depicted European-market model. Image: Mercedes-AMG As part of the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package, buyers get more engine mounts, yellow AMG branded brake calipers, a ride height drop of 10 mm and carbon fibre exterior trim. Inside, no specification differences from the European SL have taken place, meaning the retention of the 11.9-inch MBUX infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the new AMG Performance steering wheel and, as an option, the AMG Performance seats. Price Priced from R3 943 156, the SL 63's sticker includes a five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan as standard. NOW READ: All-new AMG developed Mercedes-Benz SL revealed

Singapore-registered Mercedes crashes at 229km/h in Sepang: 'There's no brake' — driver heard shouting before impact

MALAYSIA: A high-speed crash involving a Singapore-registered Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R at Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit has gone viral after an in-car video showing the dramatic moment of impact surfaced online. The video, believed to have been filmed from inside the luxury sports car, captures a chilling sequence: the vehicle completing several laps around the track before suddenly colliding into a barrier. Moments before the collision, the driver can be heard shouting, 'Oh…, there's no brake!' Two individuals were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. According to a May 19 Facebook post by Azman Nor, the car's owner, a Singaporean, was in the passenger seat, while an experienced race driver was behind the wheel. Azman claimed that the vehicle travelled at 229km/h when the brakes failed, with the impact occurring at approximately 180km/h. The driver, he said, suffered spinal injuries and was subsequently hospitalised. 'Let's all pray that he makes a full recovery. He did very well to manage the situation,' Azman wrote, expressing concern for the driver's condition. Mercedes AMG GT 63 Pro and AMG GT 63 to launch on June 27 in India

Both models will continue to come with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine The new-generation Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4Matic+ and the more performance-oriented AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ are set to debut in India on June 27. Mercedes India announced back in January that it plans to launch a total of 8 models throughout 2025, and the introduction of these performance vehicles will represent the company's 4th and 5th launches of 2025. This launch also signifies the return of AMG's flagship to India after a five-year hiatus, as the first-generation model was discontinued in 2020. The second-generation AMG GT was unveiled in August 2023, and Mercedes typically brings new models to India relatively quickly. This latest version features numerous enhancements compared to its predecessor, making it more practical. It is larger overall—182mm longer, 45mm wider, and 66mm taller—with a wheelbase that has increased by 70mm. Unlike its two-seater first-generation counterpart, this model offers a 2+2 seating arrangement. In addition to aerodynamic improvements and updated lighting, the overall design of the new AMG GT remains influenced by the original model. Inside, it boasts an AMG-spec steering wheel and ergonomically designed sport seats with integrated headrests, plus a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and an 11.9-inch vertically-oriented infotainment display. The new GT 63 is equipped with the well-known 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 576 bhp and 800 Nm of torque. It is paired with a new 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that distributes power to all four wheels through the brand's 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes claims it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 315 km/h. AMG GT 63 Pro The GT 63 Pro is the more high-performance variant of the AMG GT 63, featuring an upgraded version of the same V8 engine, now generating 612 hp and 850 Nm of torque—an increase of 27 hp and 50 Nm. Although it shares the same 0-100 kph time as the GT 63, the Pro can achieve 0-200 kph in 10.9 seconds, which is 0.5 seconds faster. Its top speed is slightly elevated at 317 kph. Additional distinctions include improved engine cooling, enhanced aerodynamics, larger brakes, lighter wheels, and superior tires. Overall, downforce at the rear has increased by 15 kg, while front lift has been reduced by 30 kg compared to the GT 63. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2024, Best SUVs in India.
