Row over PhD admission denial: Kerala higher education department conducts inspection at Kalam Technical University

T'puram: Amid the controversy over the alleged denial of PhD admission to a former syndicate member of APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (KTU), the state higher education department conducted an inspection at the university headquarters after minister R Bindu received a complaint. Following this, KTU vice chancellor K Sivaprasad approached governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar seeking further directions. Ever since former governor Arif Mohammed Khan appointed Sivaprasad as the interim VC of KTU against the state govt's wish, the CPM nominees in the syndicate have been constantly clashing with Sivaprasad, resulting in an academic and administrative stalemate at the university. It is alleged that the additional secretary, with a team of officials, had made a flash visit to the university headquarters, rummaged through documents, and forced the university registrar to give a statement on why PhD admission was denied to the former syndicate member. At the centre of the row is also the powers the state govt could possibly possess under the Universities Act Amendment Bill pending before governor Arlekar. The amendments empower the minister or the official deputed by her to call for the university files. However, the existing act and laws do not have such provisions. Former higher education minister KT Jaleel had landed in trouble for his direct intervention, forcing the university authorities to violate the examination rules to help a student. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Viral Video: मृत्यू कसाही येऊ शकतो! सीसीटीव्हीत कैद झाली काळीज पिळवटणारी घटना Latest News Read More Undo Earlier, the VC had apprised the governor of the additional secretary's 'unlawful' visit and examination of university files. The governor is learnt to have initiated steps to summon the official concerned at Raj Bhavan and seek an explanation.

‘Chunautiyan Mujhe Pasand Hain': Anandiben's story of empowerment

Lucknow: Inner strength and consistent hard work are true drivers of social transformation , said Governor Anandiben Patel at launch of her biography, ' Chunautiyan Mujhe Pasand Hain ', released by vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University on Thursday. She said the book not only reflected her personal journey but was also inspiration for others, especially women—to overcome challenges and bring about positive change in society. She praised Sudesh Dhankhar, wife of Jagdeep Dhankhar and Ayurvedic practitioner, describing her as an example of women's empowerment who not only heals herself but also helps others. She also lauded CM Yogi for his leadership in law and order and development, highlighting his unique role as saint and chief minister. "The date for the book release was purposefully chosen to coincide with Labour Day to acknowledge the importance of workers in nation-building. Many construction workers may not be highly educated, yet they build roads, bridges, and buildings with great precision. To honour their hard work, this day was chosen," she said. She further recalled how Prime Minister Narendra Modi washed the feet of workers who built the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, and how CM Yogi Adityanath honoured those working on the Maha Kumbh preparations. Under the leadership of the prime minister, she also organised the Mahila Morcha and worked with farmers to support the Narmada dam and canal project, helping bring water to the fields.

Dhankhar releases book on UP Governor

Lucknow, May 1 (UNI) Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday released a book 'Chunautiyan Mujhe Pasand Hai' (I like challenges), chronicling the journey of Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion in the event held at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University in Lucknow, highlighting Governor Patel's remarkable journey from humble beginnings to the highest echelons of public life, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "This book is like a guiding scripture for the new generation." He said that Anandiben Patel's journey from a small village in Gujarat to the governorship of India's largest state was marked by challenges. He said 'Chunautiyan Mujhe Pasand Hai' illustrates how a woman, through determination and resilience, can rise above social barriers, limited resources and adversity to become a source of inspiration for society. Yogi said the book is more than a biography, it's a reflection on life's journey, capturing the triumph of perseverance over hardship. Praising authors Vinay Joshi, Ashok Desai and Pankaj Jani, he compared the 14 chapters of the biography to 'the 14 gems that emerged from the churning of the ocean'. He said, "We often see only the peak of success but forget how much struggle went into building that foundation. Governor Patel's life is proof that anyone who faces difficulties with courage and resolve can become a role model and inspire others." The CM thanked Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar for attending the event, calling his presence "a great honour". He recalled the VP's earlier visit during the Maha Kumbh and said that it brought fresh motivation and played a role in giving the event global recognition under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Vice President. Calling freedom of expression important for a strong democracy, he said books like 'Chunautiyan Mujhe Pasand Hai' strengthen democratic values. "This book is not just a biography, it is a complete picture of democracy, struggle, confidence and women empowerment," he said. UNI AB PRS
