K-9 helps nab Louisiana man on drug and gun charges during traffic stop

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A traffic stop on Tuesday, June 10, ended with the arrest of an Assumption Parish man on drug and gun charges. Torianno Adarryl Howard Jr., 21, of Belle Rose, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana, sale, distribution, or possession of a legend drug without a prescription or order prohibited, illegal carrying of weapons in the presence of controlled dangerous substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, no motor vehicle inspection tag, no proof of liability insurance, illegal window tint and failure to dim headlights. The Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office said the stop took place Tuesday, close to LA 308 and Massey Lane, after a traffic violation. A deputy spoke with Howard and had a K-9 perform an open-air sniff of his vehicle. APSO said the K-9 'alerted positive for the presence of controlled dangerous substances.' A search of the vehicle uncovered assorted drug paraphernalia, a gun, synthetic marijuana and marijuana. After his arrest, Howard was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center. Three injured in early morning I-10 shooting in Prairieville

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office (APSO) Violent Crimes Unit is investigating a shooting that left three people injured early Sunday morning on Interstate 10. According to APSO, deputies responded to reports of gunfire near the 176-mile marker on westbound I-10 around 2 a.m. The sheriff's office said a vehicle carrying several male subjects was traveling west when another, unknown vehicle pulled alongside and opened fire. Three people inside the vehicle were shot. APSO said two of the victims suffered critical injuries, but the victims were able to exit the interstate and call 911. All three were taken to a hospital for treatment. The shooting is under investigation. Further details about the victims or the investigation were not immediately available. Mother and daughter suffer ‘serious injuries' in pit bull attack in Ascension Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) – A mother and her daughter were injured in a pit bull attack on Saturday, Jan. 25. It happened at night on Central Park Drive in Geismar and left both women 'with pretty serious injuries,' according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office. They were transported to the hospital and are recovering well after surgery, APSO said. The sheriff's office said, 'that they were house and dog sitting for a friend who was not at the residence during the attack.' They said it is not clear at this time whether charges will be filed against the dog owner in this case. APSO said the pit bull was sedated and animal control took possession of it.
