Kuching OCPD: Lamborghini driver reported fatal Jalan Airport accident, not hit-and-run

Police photo shows the condition of the Lamborghini after the fatal crash. KUCHING (May 29): Police have ruled out a hit-and-run in the fatal accident involving a Lamborghini and a pedestrian at Jalan Airport here on Tuesday evening. Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed today that the 54-year-old businessman driving the Lamborghini came forward to lodge a police report within the required 24-hour timeframe. 'The Lamborghini driver lodged the police report an hour after the accident. He did not run but reported the incident,' he told The Borneo Post. He added that the driver was subsequently arrested to facilitate investigation and is now a suspect in the case. According to Alexson, the driver stated that he was travelling from Jalan Airport to Padungan when the incident occurred. Meanwhile, the police have identified the deceased pedestrian as Chinese national Bi Guang Dong, 52, a general worker involved in the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) lane construction. Alexson said Bi was crossing the road when he was struck by the Lamborghini. He was subsequently declared dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Sarawak General Hospital. 'In the meantime, the body of the deceased is still at the Sarawak General Hospital, awaiting claims from family members in China,' said Alexson. Police have classified the case as dangerous or reckless driving that results in death, an offence under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The Section provides for five to 10 years in jail and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction. Alexson urged witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact investigating officer ASP Lucas Apin on 013-8246881 or 082-259900, or to visit the nearest police station. accident Alexson Naga Chabu Jalan Airport lead

Ayrshire College horticulture students lend a hand at Alloway Railway Tunnel project

Students and staff designed, planned, procured and delivered a full planting scheme at the entrance to the tunnel. Horticulture students and staff from Ayrshire College completed a major planting scheme as part of an ongoing collaboration with the Alloway Railway Tunnel (ART) project. This latest initiative marks the first time Horticulture students, based at Dean Park in Kilmarnock, have been involved in the project. ‌ They designed, planned, procured and delivered a full planting scheme at the entrance to the tunnel. ‌ The team, which included lecturer Francis McCaughey and Horticultural Technician Mark Haining, worked with volunteers across two days to plant a wide variety of shrubs, climbers and herbaceous perennials that will enhance the space over time. Shelagh McLachlan, Trustee at Alloway Railway Tunnel, said: "The planting project has been a tremendous team effort from the whole class. They have done a fantastic job transforming the environment and enhancing this area for walkers, cyclists and wheelers. "We are immensely grateful to all the students for their hard work and enthusiasm. It just shows what can be achieved when people come together, working in collaboration to make a lasting change." One of the key objectives of the ART project was to create opportunities for young people to gain relevant work experience that gives them a chance to put their skills and knowledge into practice and introduces them to a network of professionals working in the local area. Portraits of some of the students and staff who have worked on the project also feature in the Alloway Tunnel mural, which has been created by artist Chris Rutherford and is nearing completion. Chris Cowan, a Level 5 Horticulture student, said: "The project truly stood out to me. From the initial planning stages to the final execution, every moment was engaging and rewarding. The collaborative environment fostered creativity and allowed us to share ideas and learn from each other. I found the process to be both educational and enjoyable." ‌ Dan McDermott, a Level 5 Horticulture student, added: "It was a great exercise. I learned so much from a great lecturer and technician. It was planned well. I had a great time and can't wait to see the plants mature over the next few years." Ged Freel, Head of Learning & Skills - Engineering, Science, Motor Vehicle & Horticulture, added: "This type of hands-on experience is hugely beneficial for our students and it's particularly rewarding for them to be involved in a project of this scale that is so embedded in their local community." The ART project has involved several departments across Ayrshire College over the last two years, including business students who helped build a dedicated website, developed a business plan, created social media channels, organed a public consultation survey and other administrative tasks. ‌ Painting and Decorating students applied the base coat for the tunnel's mural; with Art and Design students adding vibrant detail by painting a bustling market scene. Graphic Design students captured local heritage by producing a short film on the Maybole boot industry and much of the project's progress has also been captured by HND Photography student Rosa Finucane.

Shirtless James Corden unwinds with wife Julia Carey aboard a sprawling mega-yacht as couple holiday in Portofino ahead of his return to Broadway

James Corden was a long way from Barry Island on Monday as he relaxed with wife Julia Carey aboard a sprawling yacht on the Italian Riviera. The Gavin & Stacey star appeared to be enjoying a late spring break with Julia and a group of friends in picturesque Portofino - a popular holiday destination for the rich and affluent. Peeling off his shirt, Corden, 46, made the most of soaring coastal temperatures while unwinding on the chartered mega-yacht as it cruised the Mediterranean. Joining her husband, Julia, 49, caught the eye in a plunging white swimsuit as they idled on the boat's top deck. The couple were unwinding in Italy as Corden prepares to to make his return to Broadway this summer. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. He will star as Serge in a new production of ART, Yasmina Reza's comedy about friendship, ego and modern art. The limited 17-week run from August through December marks a much-anticipated return to the stage for Corden, who won a Tony Award for his performance in One Man, Two Guvnors in 2012. He will star opposite How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris and Jumanji's Bobby Cannavale. American theatre director Scott Ellis is set to helm the production. Ellis's past credits include Pirates! (or, Gilbert and Sullivan Plunder'd), English, and A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical. The role will mean extended time away from his family. Corden who lives in the UK with his wife Julia Carey, 48, and their three children, Max, 13, Carey, 10, and Charlotte, 7, will spend several weeks in New York for rehearsals ahead of the official run. A theatre insider told MailOnline: 'It's exciting to see James Corden return to the stage in ART - even if only for 90 minutes a night. 'While his recent turn in The Constituent at the Old Vic was somewhat underwhelming, this new production is sure to be one of Broadway's hottest tickets.' Corden was enjoying his latest overseas break as he prepares to to make his return to Broadway this summer ART, originally written in French and translated by Christopher Hampton, premiered in Paris in 1994 before transferring to London's West End and then Broadway, winning the Olivier, Tony, and Molière Awards for Best Play. The story centres on three friends - Serge, Marc, and Yvan - whose relationships are tested when Serge buys an expensive, entirely white painting. The play explores themes of taste, loyalty, and the fragile nature of male friendship. The news comes as The Mail on Sunday revealed that Corden - who spent eight years in Los Angeles hosting The Late Late Show before relocating to the UK last year - is now said to be weighing up a run for Mayor of London. Corden, who cemented himself as a household name playing Smithy in Gavin & Stacey, has been vocal about his political views but has always stopped shy of taking it further. However, at the BAFTA television awards, Corden was introduced to the hosts of the Electoral Dysfunction podcast and revealed his latest ambitions to Sky News' political editor Beth Rigby, former Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman and former Scottish Conservatives leader Ruth Davidson. An onlooker said: 'James told them he was a regular listener to their podcast and how much he enjoys the cut and thrust of politics. 'He clearly has a lot of respect for those who put themselves out there and run for office. 'And it was suggested that he should step into the political arena and stand in the future. There was talk that he should run for Mayor of London.' The current mayor, Sir Sadiq Khan, was first elected in 2016 and won a third term last year. Corden's representatives have been contacted for comment.

Sarawak's ART project on track with no cost overruns despite minor delays

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak's Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) hydrogen tram project remains financially on course with no cost overruns reported, despite experiencing a slight delay of about 3.97 per cent, according to State Transport Minister Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin. Responding to a query from Chong Chieng Jen (DAP–Padungan) during the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, Lee clarified that while there had been minor setbacks in the project timeline, these delays have not led to additional expenses for the state government. "The minor delay has not caused any cost overrun up to this stage," he said. Minister Lee addressed concerns in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, stating that any delays caused by contractors are subject to standard contract management practices, including the submission and execution of mitigation plans. Lee added that contractors are liable for Liquidated Ascertained Damages (LAD) in cases of delay and that they are required to submit and implement mitigation plans if delays arise to ensure project continuity and minimise disruption. The ART project, part of Sarawak's initiative to modernise its public transportation network, spans a 52-kilometre route through Kuching and is powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology. The project spanning Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian is reportedly expected to cost RM6 billion and may take approximately six to seven years to complete. The state government chose the ART system as a sustainable and innovative solution to its urban transit challenges. The first phase includes the Red Line, while the Green Line package has yet to be awarded, and the Yellow Line is planned for a subsequent phase. The ART system will feature driverless tram-like vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells, operating on dedicated trackless lanes. Each vehicle is designed to carry up to 300 passengers at speeds of up to 70 km/h. The first phase is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with operations commencing in 2026. As for the cost details of awarded packages, Lee said this information would be furnished in writing to Chong, who had submitted a formal request for a written reply. Lee reaffirmed the government's commitment to delivering the project efficiently and transparently, positioning Sarawak as a regional leader in green, future-forward public transport.
