Rekha Gupta Marks 100 Days As Delhi Chief Minister, Highlights Policy Push
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said her dispensation was all about honest governance, public welfare, and structural reforms, as she accused the previous government of civic neglect, on Saturday, marking 100 days of her coming to power. Speaking at a public programme at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Ms Gupta emphasised that her administration had laid focus on policy formulation, rather than making "false promises." "My government spent 100 days in making policies and working for the betterment of Delhi," she said, adding, "We can't make false promises. We are working honestly to solve issues like the cleaning of the Yamuna and removal of garbage dumps." Ms Gupta also revealed her plan to introduce an ordinance to regulate the private school fees. "Education should be accessible and fair. We are committed to ensuring that no parent is burdened unfairly," she said. The Chief Minister dubbed as successful her government's Vaya Vandana scheme, which offers citizens aged 70 and above health insurance coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh. "Around 1.5 lakh registrations have already been completed," she said. The BJP leader also trained her guns at the previous Aam Aadmi Party-led government, and said, "Thousands joined the movement hoping for change, but the people who claimed to have no hunger for power became consumed by it. The public's trust was broken." "How can the national capital be the most polluted when cleaning the Yamuna was never even considered seriously?" she said. This is Bharatiya Janata Party's first stint in the state after 27 years. In the February Assembly elections, the BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, ending a decade of AAP's governance.

Majitha hooch tragedy exposed AAP govt's hollow promises on drug-free state: Bajwa
Taking a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government's Nasha Mukti Yatra, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Friday said that the AAP government's Yudh Nashian Virudh (War against Drugs) campaign has already proven to be a fiasco, and now they have come up with this. Bajwa said the Majitha hooch tragedy that claimed 27 lives unmasked the AAP government's hollow promise to make Punjab a drug-free state. 'Chief minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal are launching the Nasha Mukti Yatra from Nawanshahr. However, both have failed awfully to make Punjab a drug-free state within the deadlines they decided. Why should the people of Punjab trust them now?' he asked in a written statement here. The Congress leader said that Kejriwal had vowed to end the drug menace in Punjab within three to four months of forming the government and later, Mann also committed to making Punjab a drug-free state by the Independence Day of 2024. 'Have they eradicated the drug menace in Punjab? The answer is well-known to every Punjabi,' he said, adding, 'DGP Gaurav Yadav has now come up with another deadline to end the drug menace in Punjab.' Bajwa claimed that instead of working on the ground, the AAP government believed in PR exercises by launching campaigns with fancy names. What's Kejriwal's locus standi in Punjab, asks Bittu Jalandhar: Union minister of state for railways and food processing Ravneet Singh Bittu on Friday questioned Arvind Kejriwal's locus standi in Punjab government's 'Nasha Mukti Yatra'. In a statement, Bittu said Kejriwal holds no constitutional post in Punjab and the AAP government is anyway not in a position to face the people of Punjab after 27 poor people died after consuming spurious liquor, manufactured with smuggled methanol and 'sold under patronage of AAP leaders'. 'Kejriwal to come clean in Delhi liquor cases before giving advice to people of Punjab,' Bittu said.

Partap Singh Bajwa slams AAP over Majitha tragedy, seeks judicial probe
Chandigarh: Leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa , launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party-led state government over the hooch tragedy in Majitha, which has so far claimed 17 lives. He questioned the credibility of the government's much-publicised, "Yudh nashian de virudh" (war against drugs) campaign and held chief minister Bhagwant Mann directly responsible for the incident. "The chief minister himself has publicly admitted that such a tragedy could not have occurred without political, bureaucratic, or police support. I agree with him. If the liquor mafia is thriving under his watch, he is either complicit—or incompetent," Bajwa pointed out that this was not an isolated case. "In March last year, eight persons died after consuming illicit liquor in Dirba assembly segment of Sangrur district. Incidentally, Dirba is represented by finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Sangrur is the chief minister's home district," he said. Bajwa also accused the AAP government of failing to check the drug menace. "Deaths of Punjabi youth due to drug overdose have become the new normal. The government's claim of making Punjab drug-free has been thoroughly exposed by incidents like this one," he to past deadlines, Bajwa said, "DGP Gaurav Yadav has now set a May 31 deadline to eradicate drugs. Earlier, CM Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal made similar promises. Has the government cared to tell Punjabis what happened to those deadlines?"Calling for accountability, Bajwa said: "This is not the time for hollow statements. People of Punjab do not need sympathy—they demand justice. Justice begins with fixing responsibility. The excise department, tasked with regulating liquor, has clearly failed. Excise minister Harpal Cheema must resign. Anything less would be an insult to those who lost their lives."Bajwa demanded a judicial inquiry monitored by a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court, stressing that the guilty must be booked—regardless of their position or power. "The Majitha hooch tragedy has once again laid bare the dangerous nexus between the liquor mafia and the political-administrative machinery in Punjab. This is not merely a case of toxic liquor—it is a case of toxic governance," he asserted. MSID:: 121139116 413 |

Opposition parties slam AAP government in Punjab after 21 died in Amritsar hooch tragedy
CHANDIGARH: The "Yudh Nashian Virudh" (War Against Drugs) campaign by the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government has come under fire from opposition parties after 21 people died in a hooch tragedy Tuesday (May 13). Calling the campaign mere 'political theatre,' the opposition has demanded a judicial inquiry monitored by a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. While holding CM Mann directly responsible for the tragic incident, Leader of the Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa said, "Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has publicly stated that such a tragedy could not have occurred without political, bureaucratic, or police support. I agree with him. If the liquor mafia is flourishing under his nose, he is either complicit or incompetent. This is not the first incident in the three-year regime of the AAP". "In March last year, eight people died after consuming illicit liquor in the Dirba assembly segment of Sangrur district. Notably, the Dirba assembly segment is being represented by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, and Sangrur is a home district of CM Bhagwant Mann,'' he further stated.
