Profits earned through ethical means create wealth for nation: FM

Pandit Upadhyaya was one of the founding members of Jan Sangh from which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged in April 1980. 'Wealth creation in India has never been a taboo in India. We promoted wealth creation. We would want wealth creation. That is why entrepreneurs in India, under Prime Minister Modi, we refer them as wealth creators. They are not thieves,' she said while addressing the National Commemorative Seminar on 60 years of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Integral Humanism Lectures. New Delhi, May 31 (PTI) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said the government led by Narendra Modi refers entrepreneurs as wealth creators as the profit earned by them through ethical ways help drive development goals. 'We would like to have profit created by genuine ethical practices, and that is what is going to create wealth for the nation. And once you have wealth, you give dignity of labor, you provide for education, you provide for skilling, and you lift the tempo and the spirit of the nation,' she said. Recalling Deendayal Upadhyaya's idea for India, Sitharaman said that while planning, we must keep in mind the person at the very bottom of the system so that he can be uplifted keeping his dignity intact. 'Whether it was former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji or whether it is the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, every government policy under these two eminent leaders has been very reflective of Integral Humanism,' she said. 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayaas' is exactly what you do when you believe in Antyodaya theory propagated by Upadhyaya, she said. 'If you lift everyone out of poverty, give them employment, give them a certain standard of living and give them access to fundamental basic necessities, as a result, they are above where they were before, and they have greater access to the country's productive capacities. Then, the country's production levels also increase,' she said. Providing for national defence was one of the main priorities for a nation as per Upadhyay, she said, adding since 2014, Prime Minister Modi has been emphasising on Aatmanirbharta in defence production. 'That's what we have done and it's the reason Operation Sindoor was carried out. It was completely opposite to a government which said that it didn't have the money to spend for defence procurement,' she said. PTI DP DRR This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Meet India's answer to Pakistan's Chinese jets: the AMCA fifth-generation stealth fighter

For decades, India 's most advanced fighter jets have borne the stamp of foreign origin. But the country's quest for military self-reliance took a leap forward last week with the long-awaited go-ahead for its own stealth fighter jet. The Indian government's green light for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) is being lauded by analysts as a watershed moment for national security, as the country confronts mounting military pressures from both Pakistan and China New Delhi's Defence Ministry announced on Tuesday that it had approved the 'execution model' for the AMCA – a fifth-generation fighter jet project aimed at enhancing the Indian Air Force's deep-strike capabilities – paving the way for prototype development and eventual production. 'This is an important step towards harnessing the indigenous expertise, capability and capacity to develop the AMCA prototype, which will be a major milestone towards Aatmanirbharta (a self-reliant India) in the aerospace sector,' the defence ministry said in a statement, referring to the government's flagship initiative to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports. The AMCA project is now entering a pivotal, action-oriented phase of development, said Antoine Levesques, senior fellow for South and Central Asian defence, strategy and diplomacy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies. A full-scale model of the AMCA aircraft is displayed at the Aero India 2025 air show at Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru on February 14. 'Operation Sindoor Gave Us Clear Idea': Air Force, Navy Chiefs Say Character Of War Changing

Last Updated: IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh stressed that self-reliance in the defence industry is the only way forward in the current situation. The Chief of the Air Force and Naval Staff on Thursday pointed out the changing character of warfare while noting that Operation Sindoor gave the armed forces a clear idea of what military power the country needs in future. While Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh emphasised on the necessity of being self-reliant in the defence industry in the wake of the India-Pakistan conflict, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi said that the lines between war and peace are getting increasingly blurred. 'There were times when we were always doubting the Indian industries that they could not give us the return that we want. We were looking outward more. But over the last decade, things have changed a bit. We realised that there are a lot of opportunities that we have within India. Also, the current situation in the world has made us realise that Aatmanirbharta is the only solution. We have to be now ready to be future-ready," Air Chief Marshal Singh said while addressing the CII Annual Business Summit, where Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other service chiefs were also present. He said that the recent war was won by the whole of the nation approach. 'This war was won by the whole of a whole of nation approach. We have to be in a whole-of-nation mission mode to make sure that we accelerate and produce results," he said. The IAF chief said that Operation Sindoor — a retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack — has given a clear idea about where the country needs in future. 'The character of war is changing. Every day, we are finding new technologies coming in. Operation Sindoor has given us a clear idea of where we are headed and what we need in future. So a lot of work needs to be done in realigning our own thought processes also, which is already going on…In future also, we will be able to deliver the goods as a nation and we will be able to achieve our objectives. AMCA- advanced medium combat aircraft has been cleared for even participation by private industry, which is a very big step, and that is the kind of confidence that the nation has in private industry today and I'm sure this is going to pave the way to bigger things coming in the future," he said. Navy Chief Says Line Between War And Peace Increasingly Blurred Indian Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi said that the character of warfare has undergone a rapid change and is continuing to do so. 'Firstly, the lines between war and peace are increasingly blurred. Secondly, the commercial technologies democratise warfare, making it available to non-state actors. Finally, moving into the era of precision, where highly accurate capabilities and in large numbers both remain important for us. We also know that non-traditional threats like acts of terror can spiral into a wider conflict. The use of non-contact warfare along with space and cyber domains to wage a conflict with no ceasefire is a new reality," he said. First Published: May 29, 2025, 13:02 IST
