KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has conveyed his condolences to Perikatan Nasional (PN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin over the passing of his father-in-law, Datuk Abdul Ghani Ngah. In a Facebook post, Anwar also prayed for Hamzah's family to be granted strength and patience in facing this difficult time. "I pray for Hamzah and his family, that they are granted strength in facing this difficult test. May the soul of the deceased be forgiven of all sins and placed among the righteous, insya-Allah,' said the Prime Minister. Abdul Ghani passed away at 1.45pm yesterday. It is understood that Abdul Ghani, 83, had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital following complications and breathing difficulties after his house caught fire on June 19. He will be laid to rest tonight at the Kampung Rapat Jaya Muslim Cemetery, Ipoh, Perak. — Bernama

Ahmad Zahid, in a Facebook post, also prayed for the family to be granted strength and perseverance during this difficult time. 'This is indeed a very challenging test for the family and a great loss to all who knew him,' he said. 'Let us all recite Al-Fatihah for the late Datuk Abdul Ghani Ngah, who was also the father-in-law of Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, and pray that his soul is blessed, forgiven of all sins, and placed among the righteous,' he said. It is understood that Abdul Ghani, 83, had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital following complications and breathing difficulties after his house caught fire on June 19. IPOH, July 5 – Datuk Abdul Ghani Ngah, the father-in-law of Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, reportedly died today at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here, more than two weeks after sustaining injuries in a house fire that claimed the life of his wife. Utusan Malaysia reported the 83-year-old passed away at around 2pm, according to Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad. The fire broke out at 9.15pm on June 19 at a two-storey house on Jalan Raja Abdullah, Kampung Sungai Rapat Tambahan, affecting a ground floor room. Hamzah's mother-in-law, Datin Salmiah Nyak Matt, 84, was in the room and died at the scene, while Abdul Ghani, who was upstairs, suffered from smoke inhalation. Four others aged between 18 and 49, including a domestic helper, escaped the blaze without injuries. Abdul Ghani was rescued by emergency responders and taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, where he was placed in an induced coma to support his recovery. His son, Ahmad Ikhwan, 57, previously confirmed his father's condition following the incident.

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The mother-in-law of opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin died in a fire at her home in Ipoh last night. Salmiah Nyakk Matt, 84, died in the 9.19pm blaze while Hamzah's father-in-law, Abdul Ghani Ngah, 83, is receiving medical treatment for breathing difficulties. Salmiah's body was discovered in a bedroom on the lower floor of the double-storey house, which was 80% destroyed by the fire, Kosmo reported. Ghani was in a room upstairs when the fire broke out. Four other family members, between 18 and 49 years of age, escaped unharmed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Hamzah, the Bersatu deputy president, is also the MP for Larut.

IPOH, June 20 — The mother-in-law of Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, died in a fire that broke out at a two-storey house on Jalan Raja Abdullah, Kampung Sungai Rapat Tambahan here last night. Bernama reported Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Sayani Saidon confirming the incident, stating that the deceased has been identified as 84-year-old Salmiah Nyak Matt. Her husband, Abdul Ghani Ngah, is currently receiving treatment at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB). 'The deceased is the mother-in-law (of Hamzah),' she said briefly via WhatsApp. Sayani added that four other individuals were involved in the incident — three men and one woman. 'One of the victims, an 83-year-old elderly man who was in an upstairs room, suffered breathing difficulties and was taken to hospital by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS),' she said. She added that the operation concluded at 2.02am. Meanwhile, Ipoh District Police Chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said authorities received an emergency call about the fire at 9.19pm. Preliminary investigations conducted with the Fire Department's forensic unit confirmed that the blaze involved a two-storey house occupied by a family of six. 'Four other family members, aged between 18 and 49, were rescued and did not sustain any injuries,' he said. Abang Zainal Abidin added that further investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, and the case has been classified as sudden death (SDR). He also urged members of the public with any information to contact the Ipoh District Control Centre (DCC) at 05-2542222.
