KP CM visits inaugurates KP-EZDMC Tower
PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur visited the head office of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KP-EZDMC) on Thursday and formally inaugurated the newly established KP-EZDMC Tower. The inaugural ceremony was attended by provincial cabinet members Abdul Karim Tordher, Tufail Anjum, and Dr. Muhammad Israr, along with Secretary Industries Aamir Afaq, officials from the Industries Department, KPEZDMC, and others. The KP-EZDMC Tower was constructed at a cost of Rs. 670 million over a period of three years. The tower spans a total area of four kanal and comprises seven storey. Addressing the ceremony as the chief guest, the Chief Minister stated that the geographical location and natural resources of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are of immense importance, and there is a need to fully capitalize on them. He emphasized that by effectively harnessing the province's potential, economic self-sufficiency can be achieved. Unfortunately, he noted, past governments did not focus on utilizing these resources, but the current provincial government has been working from day one to make effective use of the potential in all sectors. The Chief Minister added that 11 economic zones have been established in the province, work on four more economic zones is in progress, and another four are in pipeline. 'The provincial government is providing all necessary facilities and incentives to investors to promote maximum investment in the province,' he added. He said there are immense opportunities for hydropower generation in the province. The government will supply electricity generated at lower rates to local industries, and for this purpose, it has initiated a plan to lay its own transmission line. A new economic zone will be established in Katlang to make effective use of this transmission line. This project, he said, will be a game-changer and will revolutionize the industrial sector of the province. The Chief Minister remarked that the environment for private investment in the province is extremely conducive. He invited investors from across the country to invest in the province and benefit from the facilities and incentives being provided by the provincial government. He said that roadshows will be organized to inform investors about the investment opportunities in the province adding that Industries are being promoted in different areas based on their specific potential, which will bring prosperity to those areas and provide employment opportunities at the local level. He added that special attention is being paid to value addition and capacity building. Investors who undertake value addition of products within the province will be given special incentives. 'The people of the province are hardworking, but due to a lack of technical training, many are forced to do manual labour. The government has launched two major programs to provide technical training to the people,' he noted. In his speech, Ali Amin Gandapur said that progress is ongoing on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Corridor project, which is of vital importance for gaining access to Central Asian markets. Hayatabad Economic Zone: Need to address violations of environmental regulations
PESHAWAR: The KP Department of Industries has directed the concerned authorities to organise a joint meeting of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SCCI), Hayatabad Industrialists Association (IAP) and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI) to address serious violations of environmental regulations in the Hayatabad Economic Zone. These directives were issued during a high-level meeting regarding the administrative and environmental matters of industries in Peshawar division held here with Special Assistant to KP CM on Industries, Abdul Karim Tordher in the chair. Besides, Secretary Industries Aamir Afaq, Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud, Special Secretary Industries Muhammad Anwar Khan, Officiating CEO Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KP-EZDMC) Adil Salahuddin, Director Environmental Protection Agency Jamshed Khan, SSP Peshawar, relevant WAPDA officials, administrative officers from districts Mohmand, Peshawar, and Khyber, office-bearers of the Marble Association Warsak Road and other departmental representatives attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed various issues facing industries and aligned administrative matters and decided that strict legal action would be taken against violators after the stipulated period. During the meeting, the commissioner Peshawar Division highlighted concerns regarding environmental pollution and hazardous emissions from certain industries in Peshawar, as well as the damage to road infrastructure caused by the overloading of industrial transport vehicles. Various proposals were discussed to devise appropriate solutions to these issues. The meeting also deliberated on infrastructure development, land acquisition, outstanding dues, and connectivity roads related to the Mohmand Marble City project, with directions issued for timely and suitable resolutions. K-P to unveil 5-year plan for industries

PHOTO: file The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to introduce a new five-year industrial policy to promote industrialization and provide essential facilities to the sector. In this regard, consultations with all stakeholders have been formally initiated. The new industrial policy for 2025-2030 will build on lessons from past policies, including their successes and challenges. Efforts will be made to make the policy more effective and beneficial for the province's industrial growth. As part of the consultation process, the first stakeholder meeting was held on Tuesday in Peshawar. The session included representatives from the provincial government, relevant departments and institutions, industrialists, and other key stakeholders to gather their insights on the proposed policy. The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Industries, Abdul Karim Tordher, as the chief guest. Other key attendees included Special Assistant for Technical Education Tufail Anjum, Secretary for Industries, Commerce and Technical Education Aamir Afaq, Special Secretary Anwar Khan, MD SIDB Habibullah Arif, CEO KP Economic Zones Management and Development Company (KPEZDMC) Adil Salahuddin, Director Business Facilitation Board of Investment and Trade Iqbal Sarwar, senior officials from the Energy, Industry department and Bank of Khyber. Additionally, President of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce Fazal Muqeem, President of Peshawar Industrial Association Ayub Zakori, prominent industrialist and former President of Sarhad Chamber Fawad Ishaq, SMEDA Chief, MD TEVTA, and several other business figures participated in the discussion. During the session, participants provided their recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of the upcoming industrial policy for the rapid development of the sector. Provincial departments also gave presentations on their respective responsibilities. Speaking at the session, Abdul Karim Tordher emphasized that the new industrial policy will focus on sectors of local significance. He assured that the policy will be developed with the mutual consultation of industrialists, business communities, and other stakeholders. He highlighted the potential of untapped resources in the province and stressed the need to incorporate these economic sectors into the new policy. The five-year policy will be framed considering the outcomes and challenges of previous policies, ensuring an inclusive approach by engaging all stakeholders. Additionally, he directed all Chambers of Commerce to integrate with the K-P Board of Investment and Trade through an online platform. He also proposed the inclusion of a Self-Enterprise Development Fund in the new policy. Recognizing the importance of industrialists, he acknowledged their resilience in operating businesses under challenging conditions. The government aims to introduce policies that facilitate and uplift the industrial sector. He further urged stakeholders to submit their suggestions in writing for incorporation into the final policy draft. Special Assistant for Technical Education emphasized the necessity of a skilled workforce for industrial growth. He elaborated on TEVTA's role in providing job-specific and on-campus training through various modules and courses. He highlighted efforts to transform training colleges into model institutions and enhance the capabilities of trainers. He urged industrialists to support TEVTA's placement of skilled trainees in industries by providing local accommodation and food, while TEVTA continues to offer monthly stipends to these trainees.
