Two offer ‘magic pens' to sign cheques, cheat clients of lakhs
Ghaziabad: Police arrested two members of a gang for allegedly cheating several people by using 'magic' pens to sign checks for extended warranties on their cars. The ink from the pens would disappear after some time and the cons would fill in higher amounts that would then be withdrawn from the victims' accounts. The accused, who were posing as officials of private automobile companies, would offer the targets these 'magic' pens to fill out the cheques. They would cheat people out of several lakh rupees in this manner, police said. On Feb 5, Vasundhara resident Ashok Kumar Agarwal lodged a complaint at Indirapuram police station, alleging he was defrauded out of Rs 3.1 lakh after the amount was withdrawn from his account through one of these fraudulent cheques. He had originally filled out the cheque for a lower amount to buy car insurance. The accused were identified as Balbir Singh (35) alias Ankit, a resident of Majlis Park in Delhi, and Arib Hasan (24), a resident of Gokulpuri North in Delhi.
