Brighton's Eiran Cashin to join Birmingham on loan despite Adam Webster's knee injury
Eiran Cashin is joining Birmingham City on loan for the season as Brighton & Hove Albion assess a knee ligament injury sustained by Adam Webster during the club's training camp in Spain. The injury suffered by Webster has not stopped the club from pressing on with the loan move for Cashin, who was signed from Championship side Derby County in the January transfer window earlier this year. Advertisement Cashin, regarded by Brighton as a long-term investment, has made two substitute appearances in the Premier League since joining the club. The 23-year-old Irishman featured in the second half of Monday's 2-0 win against Las Palmas in Marbella at the end of a 10-day training camp in Spain. He is returning to the second tier at Birmingham, who were promoted from League One last season. Webster played the second half of a 3-1 victory against Stoke City in Marbella last week. Injuries and selection limited the 30-year-old to 14 Premier League appearances last season. Webster attracted interest from Everton earlier in the current window. New signings Olivier Boscgali and Diego Coppola will compete with captain Lewis Dunk and Jan Paul van Hecke for centre-back places in the coming campaign. Brazilian Igor Julio is likely to depart before the summer transfer window shuts at the start of September. (Ben)

The 39-year-old travelled to Portugal for the funeral of Jota and his brother Andre Silva at the start of July."The emotions you feel are pretty obvious," he said."The shock at first of hearing it and hoping it's not actually true. Your mind goes through your experiences together and the time you shared together."As a player he was incredible. A finisher - so clever with the positions he got into, how he used his body."I sit next to Adam Webster on the bus when we travel to [Brighton] games and the amount of times I've said to him 'you don't realise how good this guy is, this guy is amazing, I love watching him' and Adam would say 'yeah Milly you told me last week'."Every week I love watching the guy as a player and I loved training with him but, more importantly than as a player, as a guy he was incredible. He was someone you could put in any corner of the dressing room and people loved him."Me and him had so many fun days together winding each other up. He's such a stubborn guy like myself. We had so much fun together."He was such an amazing family man and just someone you wanted to be around. He'll be missed by everyone. Hurzeler poised for big decision - and it looks like Webster gets the nod
Fabian Hurzeler faces a defensive decision as he prepares his Albion side to face the new Premier League champions. But there are indications Adam Webster could keep his place at home to Liverpool. Webster returned to the side in place of skipper Lewis Dunk at Wolves and was involved in a clean sheet for the sixth time in 2025. Dunk was said to have a minor hamstring issue but, along with Joel Veltman, is available again for Monday's game (8pm). Albion boss Hurzeler said: 'Of course it won't be an easy decision but Lewis wasn't able to train some days so he's not on his highest physical level. 'Therefore, Adam deserved to play and Adam will deserve to play the next game. 'Then I always say it's competition and they are both leaders, they are both important players on the pitch and beside the pitch for me. 'And, like I always emphasise, it's important from our skipper. BRIGHTON TEAM NEWS FOR LIVERPOOL MATCH 'No matter if Lewis will start or not start, he will be in the squad and he has an impact on our team by his authority, by his experience, by his voice. So, I'm happy that he's in the squad and let's see if he can get some game time.' Kaoru Mitroma is a doubt for the Liverpool game and the fixtures comes too soon for Georginio Rutter. But Joao Pedro has now completed a three-match ban.
