Stab victim killed in alleged drugs debt row
An 19-year-old, found fatally stabbed in an alley way in a Hampshire village, was killed in a row over a drugs debt, a court has heard. Tawana Choruma was discovered seriously injured in Station Road, Netley Abbey, on 19 December and died at the scene. Dominic Adeyemi, 18, of Holmes Close in Netley Abbey denies murder. His trial at Southampton Crown Court was told Mr Adeyemi stabbed Mr Choruma after a meeting was set up with him and his friend Jack Hibbert who owed Mr Adeyemi £600. Prosecution barrister Sarah Jones told the jury: "It was a senseless death arising from tensions caused by drugs, drug dealing and the debts people accrue." Ms Jones described how a meeting between the three man had been arranged in the Station Road area of Netley Abbey because of Mr Hibbert's debt to Mr Adeyemi. Mr Adeyemi was "pursuing his debt with tenacity and relentlessness", she told the jury. "It is clear there was considerable suspicion between the parties," she said. She said Mr Choruma was stabbed by Mr Adeyemi shortly after making a phone call at 18:21 GMT. She said Mr Choruma was left in a "dark lonely place, bleeding to death". Several passers-by, including a former nurse, administered CPR until first responders arrived. But Ms Jones said, given the extent of his injuries, there was "no chance" of saving Mr Choruma's life. A post-mortem examination showed he died from a 15cm-deep stab wound to the abdomen. A car driver in a nearby street later said she saw a man with an "intense wide-eyed hostile stare" shortly after the time of the attack, the court was told. The jury was also told that a knife was found in Mr Choruma's trousers. The trial continues. You can follow BBC Hampshire & Isle of Wight on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram. There's Big News From the ‘Children of Blood and Bone' Set
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. One of the most celebrated YA novels in recent history—Tomi Adeyemi's Children of Blood and Bone—is finally making its way to the big screen. The first installment in Adeyemi's Legacy of Orïsha fantasy trilogy, the book (and its follow-ups) have become enormous hits, and Paramount Pictures has brought in an impressive talent line-up to shepherd the adaptation. In 2024, Adeyemi told ELLE that there was 'so much happening' with the film, the rights to which Fox 2000 initially acquired in 2017, prior to the book's publication. But after the Walt Disney Company acquired 21st Century Fox, a series of transitions eventually led to the rights expiring, and Paramount Pictures scooped up Children of Blood and Bone in 2022. Since then, Variety reports, 'The project has been a top priority for the studio leadership.' Here's what we know about the film so far. Adeyemi's story follows Zélie Adebola as a young woman in the West African-inspired land of Orïsha, where magic has been all but erased thanks to King Saran's persecution of Zélie's brethren. Zélie must team up with her brother, Tzain, as well as the king's children—Princess Amari and Prince Inan—to take control of their powers, rebel against the monarchy, and restore magic to their land. Children of Blood and Bone has a stacked ensemble. Thuso Mbedu, Tosin Cole, Amandla Stenberg, and Damson Idris will round out the film's leads, with Mbedu (The Woman King) as Zélie; Cole (The Force Awakens) as Zélie's older brother, Tzain; Stenberg (The Acolyte) as Princess Amari; and Idris (Snowfall) as Prince Inan. Joining them are Viola Davis as Mama Agba; Chiwetel Ejiofor as King Saran; Cynthia Erivo as Admiral Kaea; Idris Elba as Lekan; and Lashana Lynch as Jumoke. Readers, fret not. Adeyemi is heavily involved in the adaptation of her beloved series, executive producing and co-writing the script alongside director Gina Prince-Bythewood, equally beloved for her work directing such films as Love & Basketball, The Secret Life of Bees, The Old Guard, and The Woman King. Adeyemi described working with Prince-Bythewood in a 2024 ELLE interview. 'She's the calmest force of nature I've ever witnessed and collaborating with her has been so much fun,' Adeyemi said. 'What Gina does so well is tell these deep, complex stories of women who look like us front and center, with incredible action set pieces, incredible cinematography. It feels divine. It feels bigger than [just] making this project. We're really in sync.' Yes. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on Jan. 15, 2027. Yes! On June 2, director Gina Prince-Bythewood posted a carousel on Instagram with photos of her and the cast with the caption, 'That is a Wrap on production! 74 days. Two countries and two islands. A passionate and dedicated crew. And an extraordinary cast who gave EVERYTHING. And the journey has just begun…' This story will be updated.

Juventus reignite interest in Germany international at Borussia Dortmund
Thursday's reports claim that Juventus are once again interested in striking a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Germany international Karim Adeyemi in the summer transfer window, but much depends on both sides' Champions League status for 2025-26. As things stand, Juventus are in fourth place with two matches of the Serie A season to go, although Lazio are level on points, Roma are just one behind and Bologna two off the top four with Europa League qualification already guaranteed after winning the Coppa Italia on Wednesday night. Advertisement Dortmund, meanwhile, sit in fifth place in the Bundesliga standings, one point behind Freiburg with just one league match left to play in 2024-25. Die Borussen need Freiburg to drop points in their final game of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt if they are to qualify for the Champions League. Champions League race leads Juventus to Adeyemi According to Thursday's reports, the Champions League situation leaves Adeyemi in an uncertain position with Dortmund, and he is likely to leave if Dortmund do not finish the Bundesliga season in the top four. Tuttosport claims that Juventus will be in a position to offer Adeyemi an escape route if they qualify for the Champions League themselves. Advertisement Adeyemi, who has six caps for the Germany national team, has 12 goals and nine assists from 35 appearances in all competitions this season, for a goal involvement every 101 minutes this term. Juventus are not the only side interested in acquiring his services though, as Napoli had also enquired after his availability following Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's January move to Paris Saint-Germain, while Tuttosport claims that Chelsea are also keen ahead of the summer transfer window.

Bundesliga 2024-25: Dortmund spoils Alonso's Leverkusen farewell and boosts its Champions League hopes
Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso's last home game in charge ended in a 4-2 drubbing by Borussia Dortmund that boosted the visitor's chances of Champions League qualification on Sunday. Karim Adeyemi scored one goal and set up another for Dortmund to stay one point behind fourth-placed Freiburg with one round of the Bundesliga remaining. Dortmund next plays relegated Holstein Kiel, while Freiburg plays Eintracht Frankfurt in the final round. The top four teams qualify for Europe's premier club competition. Third-placed Frankfurt could clinch its place later Sunday with a win at home against St. Pauli, which was just two points above the relegation zone. Alonso, who confirmed on Friday he'll be leaving Leverkusen at the end of the season, was honored for his impact at the club before kickoff, when defender Jonathan Tah also received tributes before he leaves. Alonso's team dominated from the start with a host of chances only to be thwarted by Gregor Kobel in the Dortmund goal. But Julian Brandt replied two minutes later with Dortmund's first shot on goal after Adeyemi pulled the ball back. Kobel pulled off great saves to deny Nathan Tella and then Wirtz, before Pascal Groß set up Julian Ryerson to score with Dortmund's second shot before the break. Leverkusen missed more chances after it. Brandt sent Adeyemi through to make it 3-1 in the 73rd. Serhou Guirassy made sure of the win four minutes later, before Wirtz set up Jonas Hofmann's consolation in stoppage time. Stuttgart hosted Augsburg later Sunday.

Dortmund thump Leverkusen to spoil Alonso's home farewell
LEVERKUSEN, GERMANY: Borussia Dortmund romped to a 4–2 win at Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, spoiling Xabi Alonso's final home match in charge while boosting their Champions League hopes. The visitors came from behind after Jeremie Frimpong's early strike, responding with goals from Julian Brandt, Julian Ryerson, Karim Adeyemi, and Serhou Guirassy. Alonso, who guided Leverkusen to a league and cup double last season in his first full campaign in charge, announced on Friday that he would be leaving the club — with Real Madrid widely tipped as his next destination. The Spaniard told reporters his departure was "emotional and this club will stay in my heart forever", adding that he would "forget the result from today pretty quickly". Leverkusen's title defence faltered with a 2–2 draw at Freiburg last Sunday, but home fans remained in celebratory mood — 12 months after Alonso led them to a first league title in the club's 120-year history. Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah, also set to leave at the end of the season, was full of praise for Alonso. "He's got a certain aura. He's a great coach and a great person. We can be thankful to him," said Tah. Before kick-off, Leverkusen honoured Alonso's time at the club, with fans chanting "Danke Xabi" and holding up placards bearing images of the Basque coach — but Dortmund were in no mood to join the celebration. The hosts dominated the opening stages, pinning Dortmund in their own half. Only a series of superb saves from Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel — seven before half-time alone — kept Leverkusen at bay. Leverkusen's pressure finally paid off after 31 minutes, when Florian Wirtz danced through the penalty area, drew three defenders and laid the ball off to Frimpong, who curled a shot into the top corner. Dortmund had barely ventured out of their own half, but the goal sparked them into life. Just two minutes later, Adeyemi cut the ball back for Brandt to smash home the equaliser. Brandt also played a key role in Dortmund's second two minutes before the break, winning the ball near the touchline and delivering a cross to Pascal Groß, who turned and set up Ryerson to fire a low shot into the net. Adeyemi and Guirassy — both of whom had scored braces in last week's 4–0 thrashing of Wolfsburg — found the net again within four minutes of each other in the second half. Guirassy now has 33 goals in 44 matches in his first season with Dortmund. Wirtz, who has been linked with a summer move, provided a late consolation assist for Jonas Hofmann in stoppage time. Alonso will take charge of Leverkusen one last time in next week's match at Mainz, but the club is guaranteed to finish second, regardless of the result. Dortmund, who were as low as 12th earlier in the season, have now taken 19 of a possible 21 points and sit just one point behind fourth-placed Freiburg. "It's not in our hands, but we're a bit closer and we've got one more final next week at home," said coach Niko Kovač to DAZN. Dortmund's hopes were further lifted when third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt were held to a 2–2 draw at home to St Pauli later on Sunday. Rasmus Kristensen opened the scoring with a spectacular goal after just 23 seconds, but St Pauli hit back through Manolis Saliakas and Morgan Guilavogui to take the lead. Former Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi equalised in the 71st minute and had the ball in the net again late on, but the goal was disallowed for handball. Frankfurt remain third but face fourth-placed Freiburg next week, with the winner guaranteed a Champions League spot. Dortmund must beat relegated Holstein Kiel at home to join them. In Sunday's final match, Stuttgart cruised to a 4–0 home win over 10-man Augsburg, with goals from Atakan Karazor, Nick Woltemade, Enzo Millot and Ermedin Demirović. Stuttgart will meet third-division side Arminia Bielefeld in the German Cup final on 24 May.
