A video of an Ivorian shopping centre engulfed in flames in February was shared on social media on May 21 with the baseless narrative that a coup d'etat had taken place. The clip, which shows a large blue and grey building on fire while people gather at the scene, was shared, opens new tab on Facebook with overlaid text that says: "ivory coast Coup 19/5/2025 ivory coast is burning" and that the country's President, Alassane Outtara, is "no where to be found".
